To each his own. I started years ago with a Jetboil and have used many other stoves since. I have settled in on the Soto you were using. I don’t see myself going back to Jetboil, but they are a great quality stove!

Very good video. All your points are spot on and the exact reasons I use it. I’m willing to sacrifice a few ounces for all those things. I’ve been loving using that thing on the last few trips. So simple!

Bravo! I’m all about reducing weight where feasible; but I totally agree … there comes a point where functionality and convenience should take precedence over weight. After all, isn’t it all about enjoying yourself?!

I’m new to hiking and have been racking my brain as to what to go with and this video pushed me over the edge to just go with a Jetboil type system. They’re cheaper brands for $50 and $60 and I’ve even seen one for $40 on a none amazon site.

I have to admit that the Jetboil MicroMo is so hard to beat. Yes there are lighter systems out there but this system is absolutley worth the carry. I've used the Jetboil MicroMo on two more adventures since this video and I have zero interest in my old systems. My buddy Matt who you see in the video that turned me on to the Jetboil in general took one of his old sytems on out on our last adventure just to mix it up, and he hated every second of it and wished he had his Jetboil with him. MicroMo, highly recommended.

I have a JetBoil Zip and it is hell on earth when that thing boils over (I see the new kits have a more common control handle instead of the stupid knob on the Zip). Switched to a Soto Windmaster + Evernew Pasta pot and not missing my JetBoil at all. The only thing from my old setup I'm gonna keep is the stabilizer foot for the fuel canister. But the most important thing is to find what works best for you, and the efficiency of the jetboils are pretty impressive.

I use the MSR Windburner. Pretty much the same thing. I just like it because you can also get things like a 4.5L pot & skillet so I can also use in my van. ;)

Jetboils work great if you're only boiling water. I havent had my plastic cup on the bottom after the first year, but the rest still functions great.

Ultralight can be a rabbit hole you can get sucked down. With each piece of gear you should consider weight, cost and functionality. If you think the functionality of a particular item is worth the weight penalty, then go for it. In the end, it is you that is hauling your gear and if it is light enough for you and works for you then you have made a good choice. I currently use a brs stove with a titanium pot, but I did consider a jet boil long and hard. It was the cost of the system in the end that was the determining factor for me. God bless and stay safe.

*remembers boiling water covering my arm from wrist to elbow* Yea... those tippy stoves can HURT. I do admit burning my arm was a conscious choice. It was either grab the stove and let the pot tip on my arm, or let the running stove fall off the rocky area into the really dry grass. I'm looking at remote stoves, or a caldera cone for better stability. Excellent review of the options and choices there are from trip to trip, and what your needs are at the time.

"Before" watching the video I'm thinking Steve has got into tailgate camping. (LOL) I personally still do not like cooking in a Jetboil, but for heating hot water fast and easy it's the bomb.

Soto windmaster's has a high profile plus you didn't have a canister stabilizer. I have the jetboil but found it hard to remove it from the stove

I will agree that it gets annoying to twist on and off. I've just been setting it in the grooves and not twisting. Seems to work out just fine. Hope that helps.

Just wondering.... it looked like your friend has a different JetBoil than your micromo... what did you see worked better on each (or does it depend on cooking style)?? thanks

Hello there. He has a MicroMo as well. I like the "Mo" series stoves as it allows you to actually simmer and cook and it still has the option to blast water for boiling. Its been the best for me lately. I continue to not have any desire to change to a different system.
