Today, we're talking about a Christian apologist called Eternal Insecurity. He has a huge problem with atheists and this isn't the first video he's done about us, nor the first one I've covered of his. In this video, he tries to say atheists have something against god or have been hurt by the church, so very standard apologetics stuff. Then he proceeds to misunderstand literally everything possible. Naturally, I have a lot of rambles. #logic #reason #philosophy #religion #skepticism #agnostic #fundamentalist #evangelical #theology

I had this happen with someone (whom I suppose is a theist) just yesterday, who tried out a vague Argument from Incredulity as a way of challenging secularism. He went on to present a barrage of other fallacies, after I pointed out the first. Eventually his arguments descended into Ad Hominem, at which stage he asked "Why are you so angry?" When I pointed out that this, too, was an Ad Hominem, he deleted the entire comment thread. There can be A LOT of projection in this way of thinking, in service of Strawman arguments for the most part. It's not sophisticated, but it is a window into the sort of mental landscape that has to be constructed in order to live in a world of fallacy and think of it as normative. I think this is one of the clearest examples I've ever seen, and it would have been crystal clear to anyone observing it. So I really appreciate this guy for being so revealing in spite of himself.
@sussekind9717
@sussekind9717 Месяц назад
I myself have had people delete an entire thread when on the losing end of a comment section debate. They end up getting cornered or shown to be wrong in the discussion, and then realize there's no way out. Yet they do not have the humility to concede, or to admit that they were wrong. I find it petty, childish, and pathetic. I myself have admitted multiple times, that I was partially or even completely wrong. Usually when presented with new, confirmable, evidence that was unknown to me at the time. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, that's one way we gain knowledge. I'd rather be shown to be wrong, than to continue believing false information. Even when my interlocutor is being a total ass hat about it. You are on the internet, you know the kind I speak of.

I'm always suspicious of people who frame other people's concerns in terms of being offended. That's because people are often, essentially, trained to dismiss things given that label, taking it to mean the frivolous complaints of oversensitive and overemotional people. But people's complaints are very often genuine concerns about important matters of harm and justice. Emotions are natural and appropriate for these issues, but that's so often twisted into the idea it's nothing to these things but emotions.

I had a friend whose dad was a Presbyterian preacher. And I got conflicting answers one told me she’s going to hell because she threw God‘s gift back in his face. Another told me the old trope about God doesn’t give you more than you can handle well my friend would disagree and the old comforting God has a plan bullshit. And I just realized they can’t all be right, like what plan could that possibly benefit and I just started giving it all a really good hard look and I held on for a while thinking I wanted to see my friend when I got to heaven because that’s so comforting, but as I matured I 😂realized I didn’t believe in any of it anymore. no matter how comforting a lie is, it is still a lie.

I think it's fair to say that for a lot of us who were previously believers, being hurt by something done to us in or related to church, or being outraged by something we read in the Bible either started us on the road to disbelief, or reaffirmed or increased some skepticism inside of us. But the journey out that followed was still more than likely a very long and difficult and - most importantly, a complex and complicated one. The difficulty in these conversations is in the realization that we likely can never get an apologist to understand the nuance; that any hurt experienced was just one of dozens, maybe hundreds of factors. They can't be trusted, they seem to know only how to exploit.

I certainly was never "hurt" by the church in any way. In fact, my time in the church was rather enjoyable. I enjoyed my membership and I liked most of the people in my particular church. The only reason I left and became an atheist is because it could not be shown to be true. And I certainly wasn't going to follow a false belief. There was nothing at all emotional about it. In fact I still remain friends with most of the people I knew in church. So, no. Nothing emotional at all.

It is very hard to separate logic from feeling of something being logical. Or illogical. When we look at some fallacy, read the definition and say "yep, that type of reasoning seems pretty dumb". No objective evidence, we must trust our feelings that it is in fact a fallacy. Or just take it on faith despite our feelings, but that is not a reliable method. (Btw, i also have synesthesia. I usually experience classical music as violet, modern music as blue or pink, folk music as green or orange, jazz and country as yellow. Red music is a bit rare, some of the best red songs is probably Jeremiah Clarke - The Prince of Denmark's March and Allegro Maestoso - Handel, from modern music i could mention Republica - Picture Me, Marko nastic - Flojd, Mandrage - Ona se smála. Songs also have mood genres (funny, sad, scary, surprising) and physical effects (making people dance, laugh, cry, increasing the heart rate, etc.). That is why i like music, although i like other types of art too.)
@tuulikk9193
@tuulikk9193 Месяц назад
First he blames us for using our emotions to attack Christians, then he blames us for both using logic and emotions? Almost like we are humans or something. Also, one can probably state things with logic, or that sounds or feels like logic that is wrong and on the other hand, feelings might lead to truth and be the product of a lot of thought process we did not notice we had. I guess what makes things true is evidence and if something is reproducible. How we get there matters less. If something we think or feel is true is being challenged, especially with something that has substance, if the only thing we can answer with is how we feel that we are right, then we might have a problem with feelings. Similar if we have flawed logic, as logic without evidence only tells of how something could be possible.

There are fundamental differences between a Christian and/or Muslim anger compared to atheist one. 1. Theists are angry because they can not convert people using violence anymore and have to resort to coercion and manipulation. In addition, they are also angry that we don't just believe things based on what they say and ask for evidence instead. 2. Atheists are angry and frustrated because irrationality rules the world, and that irrationality will drive humanity to extinction. In other words, theist anger is childish and nonsensical, while atheist anger is empathetic and justified.

I'm not clear if Jethro thinks atheists can't have emotions, or they can't make a logical decision but still feel emotional about it. Is divorce a logical or emotional decision? I suspect most people getting divorced are motivated by their emotions, know it's the logical thing to do if you no longer love each other or your family unit enough to stay together, and STILL feel very emotional about tyat decision log afterwards. What we do know is that atheists don't hate a god they don't believe exists, but might hate the time they wasted believing the BS, the people that still foist that BS on others, and the people making bad decisions for the country they live in because they still believe the BS. There is a logical reason why finding out the supposed almighty triomni god who is supposed to have created the universe started off being worshipped as a war god or a storm god and the stories about him can be traced getting more and more fantastic and combining with stories and aspects of other gods it seems more logical to assume based on that that it is an entirely fictional character than that an all powerful all good god would want people to start worshipping them as a storm

To be fair, he's actually trying to draw an equivocation with emotional theists. His, uh, "argument" doesn't require him to be unemotional. He thinks he has found some sort of weakpoint in atheist rationalism. At least, that's the impression I get from his own comments on his channel. I have not watched this entire video (or the original) yet.

Are you one of those people who don't notice others? I am curious because I have noticed a common trend with groups of people who are lets just say are very self centered. They do this I am above this crap type of thing but then they show that they are not right after and when you dig little deeper its always some dumb reason why they are angry like they were told no about something and that they are not the center of the universe is basically the whole reason behind why they are the way they are. Reason what I wrote is so vague is because it has nothing to do with atheism but people in general.

Christian Apologists always attempt (poorly) to support their sky wizard concept with logic and put their own god into a logic box when they prosyletize. Classic Projection This goof doesn't realize that we aren't resisting god. We don't believe he exists so how can we be resisting him. That takes a conscious effort. "Those who resist the Easter Bunny always want to put him into a logic box." See how simple that is to understand?
