A lot of very good musicians passed through Tull over te years. Barre was a constant in all that but for whatever reason he was often overlooked except by people in the know. Good to see him still out there.
I see these "underrated" comments on nearly every music video. This is the only one I really agree with. The man was just not talked about...his name never came up. Poor dude he really is one if the very best.
When we listened to Rock in the 70’s & 80’s nobody gave a rats ass if someone was left or right of center, it was all about the music. Fortunately our music brings us back in time.
It's good to feel this energy again after all there years.... some of Martin Barre's best work.... and Ian Anderson, still one of the best rock shows I've ever seen.
Ians creativity, longevity, lyrics, musicianship, showmanship is top shelf. His healthy lifestyle and work ethic are inspirational to young and old alike. He embodies what only the rare few can accomplish in their lifetime and, incredibly there's still more to come.
After three brutal combat tours in Vietnam I went out on the road looking for the boy that got lost somewhere back there. Aqualung was released. The sound wrapped around me and somehow kept me safe. It drew my troubled mind in and gave it a place to finally rest. Aqualung my friend…… don’t you start away uneasy…….
I was there. 1st row with Martin Barré in front of me. I´ve seen many concerts in my life. Jethro Tull was in top 5 of live performance. Great sound. Very precise playing. Fantastic band!
@@fiatkallesdotter OK. Best concert of my life so far: Pink Floyd Division Bell Tour 1994 Gelsenkirchen (Germany) followed by Rock Pop in Concert 1983 (Heavy Metal Festival with Maiden, Priest, Ozzy, Scorpions, Quiet Riot, Def Leppard, Krokus, MSG ) Best band was Judas Priest followed by Iron Maiden and Def Leppard. (The concerts are in youtube too! Phantastic!) Next great concert was Toto 2013 Amphitheater Loreley Germany. Unbelievable great musicians. Steve Lukather is phantastic! Last year i saw Tool in Cologne. Great sound. Great videos. Dany Carey -what a drummer. What could I say more. I´ve seen so many great concerts in my life since 1979. I´ts hard to rate them. Greatings from germany. Frank
From a time, where it didn't matter if a group looked like a bunch of disheveled, hungover lumberjacks and escapees from a pirate-show, because the music was what mattered.
We’ll agree to disagree. I think how you looked has always mattered. In this time looking like a bunch of disheveled lumberjacks was a resume enhancement! 😂But the music was and still is amazing!
I disagree. Image was big a deal then too. Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust came just the year after. Glam was just getting started. T Rex? Rolling Stones? And have you seen Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin from then? These guys got away with looking like schlubby forest sprites in spite of it all because they killed. Perhaps if a band of equal awesomeness was around now they’d have to clean up a bit. But different era, and yeah, there definitely was more great music then as shown by the short list I tossed out. But there was plenty of crap sold on image, it’s just been forgotten the half century since this came out.
Dude I know right?? They all look like they're on hard drugs. They have the crazy eyes. And don't bother applying unless you have a cool beard! But fuck, do they rock or what??
We were so blessed those of us in our 60's, never will there be music like this again live. 70's were so awesome, and touring the world on 2 aircraft carriers. Memories
Some of us just turned 70. We were Standing guard on the Iron Curtain. Waiting for the commies to come through the Fulda gap. Listening to Ian Anderson. Smoking some good hash.
There was amazing music in the 70s. There was also plenty of crap music. Just like any other decade. The problem is, as we age, we're far less interested in discovering new music and we tend to regress to what we liked in our youth.
Martin Barre is one heck of a guitarist...his control is so awesome and it's a shame that he gets under the radar a bit...he's definitely up there with the greats.
Ian Anderson's stage antics are as entertaining as the music is fucking masterful. He's like an eccentric uncle you'd love to have at Christmas dinner once a year just to give the family a much-needed wakeup =)
They were the most polished group of there day.....this video is 37 years old and it sounds better than 90 percent of todays music.....just saying.....
@@ElzevereBlock The amount of talent coming out of the UK during the 60/70 was simply insane. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Bowie, Queen, Pink Floyd, The Kinks, The Who, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Genesis, Yardbirds, Yes, Supertramp, Small Faces and so on.
I totally agree. I was in a band that toured with them back in 1975. I would sit backstage every night and watch their show. Different perspective than when I got comped tickets and sat out front where you could see all the lighting and special effects! My biggest "almost" was getting asked to play with them when Barrie (the drummer) was going to leave. He changed his mind and I got a circus magazine write up mentioning that a few months later. It is on my website www.jimllewellyn.com if you're interested.
@@fenrislegacy You forgot Cream. You got most of them, but I cannot forgive this last one. jk oh, and the Guess Who... I'm 36, from Alaska, and can't stand modern music. Listening to this brought tears to my eyes...
Let's not kid ourselves. Sure, back then they didn't have Autotune, but they did still had analogue means to make their instruments and voice sound better. Live recordings from that era used plenty of studio trickery to make them sound better. Also, if Tull had had Autotune back then, they would have used it, for sure. Ian Anderson was always experimenting with studio equipment and of course would have used it given the opportunity. Using modern equipment or computers doesn't make the music less real. They're just tools. What is done with them is what matters.
I saw him in Seattle too! mid 70's at Seattle Centre Colosseum. Loved this band since it came out. Had albums "Aqualung" and "Songs from the Wood". What year did you see them?
Jethro Tull was one of my first concerts and it was nothing short of phenomenal, at Sports Area and one of the violinists has a Chrystal Violin that shined like the sun! God bless you Ian ! Keep on rocking!
I saw him 10 years ago in concert, I just found the old ticket stubs yesterday. Pretty cool 4 th row. Saw Jethro Tull in 76 also. That was in a football stadium. I was in a cheap seat then.
I'd like to have a time machine...to see this genious during that show ...to hear one of the many bands of that time playing music without artifice...true musicians and performers... God I miss my teenage years...
This is one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard. I keep coming back to it and jam along every time, I'm making decent progress. What's really amazing is that it's clearly improvised. Just on the spur of the moment, boom.

Hola!!!
One of my favorites..!! Remembering the wonderful buzz I would get at their concerts...! Ian Anderson was a beast on the flute..! Locomotive breathe .....!
Best band I met in the year 2021! Long live these gods! Super cool medieval alchemists! This song is very nice to hear, thanks to everyone involved... Salvation a la mode and a cup of tea. Aqualung, my friend! 💓
I believe that was the first Jethro Tull live video I've watched where he didn't have a flute in his hands. I sort of got the full Maniacal Minstrel effect and it was joy to watch.
@@terrianneharrison7361 Nope. It was a habit he shared with people like Frank Zappa. His only drugs were cigarettes, though I understand that he was partial to a curry or three!
I recon that if this song was released today for the first time, some people would want it banned, for lyrical content, tossers, it is an amazing piece of music, love it.
Saw Jethro Tull at the State Theatre Sydney, around 1996. Brilliant. Ian Anderson was in a wheel chair after falling off the stage in Lima Peru a few weeks before. Tore the ligaments in his leg. He had all the moves of a Paralympic basketballer.
Jethro Tull , my teen years in the early 70,s . A wild eyed flute playing god . Fast forward Palace theatre Manchester , premier Homo Erraticus , superb live theatre , Mr A having a coffee pre show , quick nod not realising it is he with Telegraph (sic) .Blimey , bald squat and short , jumps on stage , hey presto Magic !
Saw them in 1974 they were fantastic of course. Lead guitar reminds me of Eddie Van Halen a little bit I wonder if he got any inspiration from these guys? I had reserved tickets in row 101, Colosseum of about 12,000 people. When I got there I found out that row 101 was actually row number one so I was right in the center and Ian Anderson was right in front of me, a night I will never forget for sure.
