Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

Let's see. Four guys (singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer). Fans close to stage. No riots. No fireworks (except the band's performance). No special effects. Nothing but raw, unfiltered, straight-up rock and roll. Amazing. This is how it was. This is how it should be again.

Yup. I feel like he started to lose it around 1972 or 73 and wasn’t the same after that. Still incredible be it just didn’t have the same power and range he did in the 1968-1971 era. I can even hear him slightly slipping on LZ IV a little and you hear it a lot more on Houses Of The Holy. By Physical Graffiti he wasn’t even close. Always amazing though compared to most other frontmen.

I was fortunate to be a part of this magical time period. And having the best stereo system and speakers were so important, almost a measure of social status, because great music was simply That important to the society of young adults and teens. It was an essential priority. The kegs of Heineken or St. Pauli Girl beer, candles lit, parents out for the night, and great friends all gathered, all school classmates, neighborhood friends. We accomplished something very cool listening to Led Zepplin at these House Parties: we made the house seem to shake, - or oak floors vibrate. A brick house with plaster walls and a sound system turned up to the max. We laughed together, talked about interesting things, we read books and traveled, we went to movie theaters, and outdoor movie theaters, canoed, hiked and swam in days of freedom and happiness, - we lived a true life, magical. Talking about the new albums that came out and going to these concerts was an integral part of our days. It was a period of innumerable great bands emerging that have never been surpassed, and the quality of which may never happen again. There were no Smart Phones, and not even cell phones yet, nor hand held live streaming cameras and video recorders. We spent real time together, in real time, and this music was a part of our everyday lives. This time period of new bands and unforgettable concerts was a Renaissance of new thinking, of the arts, - of talent, learning and imagination, and social and community acceptance and belonging. It will be indelibly preserved and remembered by virtue of the collective genius of its time. This is another outstanding concert by Led Zeppelin, that is absolutely exciting to watch. RIP John Bonham. And "all of my love..." to Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page.

This is perhaps the earliest complete professionally recorded live performance of Led Zeppelin in great quality. The concert happened on January 9, 1970. At the point when this concert took place, the group had no more than a year and few months of existence, since it was founded on the second half of 1968. There are very few live recordings of the group of their 68/69 era (aside from unofficial live “bootlegs”) and the only ones available are sourced from Radio or TV shows. As far as I know, prior to this recording, there are no more of its kind from the early days of Led Zeppelin.

@@louislaz Yes, I know it. The point is that this show was taped with 8 multitracks (which was the standard for professional studio recordings) and filmed with 16mm cinematic cameras; not so common traits for live recordings in those days. The Who’s Live at Leeds was recorded with the same technology aforementioned above, albeit with no video. The Denmark show was recorded using broadcast technology (mono audio and black/white picture), which was the standard for TV media back in those days. I’m not talking about the highlights of the performance, but the quality of the recording itself.

I like it when they stick by the original recording in the screaming middle section instead of going into different songs.

The medleys are one of the things that made their live shows interesting. If you want to hear them play the song exactly like the album studio version what's the point in hearing them perform live?
