Rock Legends: Jethro Tull Season 5 Episode 1 aired on October 16, 2016. The music documentary provides a historical perspective of one of the greatest progressive rock groups.
Ian Anderson interview excerpt by USA Today on August 18, 2023: I hear from so many people how it’s criminal that Jethro Tull isn’t in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. But from what I understand, you don’t really want to be in there?
A: I think it’s quite wrong for us to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame when so many great American acts are being ignored and will be for all time because I suppose they haven’t sold enough records or aren’t that popular to impress the founding fathers of the Rock Hall. I have no idea who they are because I’m not really a music fan and don’t follow that stuff. … But Tull isn’t an example of Americana, and Americana is what the Rock Hall should be about. It’s celebrating American music in an American institution, and I don’t really feel Tull really qualifies in that sense. It’s not that I have any disdain for Americana − that’s what got me into music in the first place − but I don’t feel that’s what I do.
Q: But if you were nominated?
A: I can confidently predict it will not happen because I have it on fairly good authority that the folks who make these decisions are not Tull fans and decided a long time ago that we would not be part of it. It takes away the difficulty of sending a polite “no thank you” note because I’m not about to jump on a plane and go to wherever it is just to be part of a celebration. It’s best that they don’t ask me; then I don’t have that difficulty of sounding like a real old sourpuss and saying I’m going to be washing my hair that day. Which really isn’t a plausible excuse any longer. But I have great respect for all of those artists who are part of it.

I did not see them live until Newport 69. A three day outdoor festival at Devonshire Downs near Van Nuys, California. Ian Anderson and Martin Barre were so incredible! Such stage presence and musicality.

I've been to many Tull shows, always a good time. Recently saw Martin Barre in a very small theater (400 seats) and he was amazing.

I seen Tull for the first time on the Minstrel tour, blew me away. I was told by a friend at a party that he had seen Tull and Pink Floyd in the same week and that Tull was the best show he ever seen. So when it was announced that Jethro Tull was coming to Columbus we bought tickets. At the time I was a big Uriah Heep fan, that changed. 😂🕊💖🎸

If you want to see Jethro Tull in their first TV appearance or one of the first watch The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus filmed in December of 1968 I forgot what song is they did but I think Tony Iommi was the guitarist. Ian Anderson was so young in 1968. I think they did "stand up"???

my man rolling out some flat out bollocks. No Tony Iommi played NO concerts with Tull during his ten day stay. There actually is a Tull website specific to their live performances called Ministry of Information dating to last night. No concerts in December 68. Even the Stones thing that he is on he is doing as a favor, having decided to go back to what became Sabbath by that point. He is miming to what Mick Abrahams had already recorded and only Anderson is playing live. Plus Dave O List and the Stones guy are among the many who applied for the job and were not chosen. This guy clearly another Tull hating critic and his "not having any of it" as if Mick Taylor were above it. Bullshit. It was a highly in demand job with about 75 applicants including other name guys. Tull was hot shit, "darlings of the underground" at that moment, when even critics had a kind word about them. Incredible band and performer over now 56 years. Unique to say the least. So many inaccuracies in here I see it will keep me on the job. No Benefit was not the second album, it was the third. Very much was recorded in France, not, as stated, "nothing.". Tull fans have finally seen that great store of material of very good quality see release on both the 25th anniversary box in 93, and the re mixing of the Passion Play album on its 40th anniversary in 2013 and the release of all the material that went with it, re that mountain of material from France. But the whopper remains that in 2001 the original Tull reformed to play a series of pub gigs. Seriously where do you get this bs. We can only wish that happened. What DID happen was as a ONE OFF, a place was chosen that would be like these tiny blues clubs they played prior to that Sunbury 68 show, it was invitation only, the "crowd" of ten or so were instructed to look disinterested, re trying to recreate what an actual Tull gig was like in late 67 or early to mid 68. It was for the Living With the Past dvd which otherwise was the then current band in live performance and interview, a couple in Ian Andersons living room. So a big section of the latter part of this total bs making it seem that Ian had briefly resurrected the original Tull. What has gone on in this century is about 60 per cent Tull shows, to 40 per cent Ian Anderson Band shows since 2004. Then Ian ceased Tull in 2011 and continued with the Ian band. The Tull name has now been resurrected for the albums of the last two years Rok Flote and the Zealot Gene. As regards Tull and Fairport no not all FC members have been in Tull. About 30 or more have passed through both bands. 6 of the Fairports have either also been Tull members or contributed on a Tull or Ian Anderson album. And Fairport is even older than Tull at 57. Justice would be served if they went into the Rock Hall together. Now that Jann Wenner is out not an impossibility. And both those justifiably proud organizations are still very much ongoing realities though time of course waits for no one.
