As a person who really just loves periphery overall with or without vocals. But I do think that this version is the best version of this song. After I got the vinyl and finally got to listen to it again I got to appreciate it all over again like it was 2011
This song kinda makes me feel like I’m a little melancholy, and lonely and empty inside but I’m walking through a journey with no idea where I’m going inside of a dream.
I always come back to this from time to time to remind myself of a world that isn't there anymore. Absolutely soul crushing song because it's just so beautiful.
i like spencers vocals personally. yea i fuckin hated him in the beginning, but he grew onto me. and i like his clean vocals, but how he sings.its like...hard to pull off but at 3:26 of this song when he does that really high note phrase, i got shivers the first time. it was really nice
im glad i saw these guys at sonisphere UK because if not id still not get this band, but live it just hit me like a frait train, these guys aim for amazing
Whilst certain songs work better without vocals (Zyglox and All New Materials in particular IMO) I can't imagine most of the songs (this and Ow My Feelings in particular without vocals. I am a fan of the vocals but I do see it as a work in progres. The melodic nature and wide range is excellent, just needs a better depth in the lower range in my view. I get the feeling they are about to absolutely explode and it will be a wonderful thing to bear witness to.
You could not have been more right lol 8 years later and look where they are. Also imo Spencer's pretty much the best vocalist. Just listen to P4 Hail Stan.
I actually like Spencer's vox. I don't find them emo or cheesy at all. I think his voice adds a nice feel to their music. However, I would agree that some of their songs work better without vocals. Some of their stuff is just to complex and crazy. But I do think this song is better with vocals. It doesn't really have that much going on instrumentally, compared to other periphery songs.
@Tr0LL0LL I shouldnt feed the troll, but they do grow on you. When i first started listening to this album i was unsure about Spencers vocals, love his heavy vocals now. As for his clean, can be cheesy at time but are still good.
Okay but if i enjoy emo, you do it too...Frank Zappa, Mr Bungle, sleepytime gorilla museum, meshuggah is....my favoritebands....so ill think ill have too grow up :(
This one just doesn't work that well as an instrumental for me. I like being able to hear the programmed electronics a bit more clearly at the start, but I think the vocals really add another dimension to this song. The transition to the solo at 1:56 just sounds plain awkward without that high note.
@JonteJH2 - No thanks, I think I will continue to be annoyed by opera, probably bothered by Country, and laugh at grown men who try to sing like emo kids (like blink 182). Dream theater annoys the shit out of me too... Ill stick with immature music taste that include bands like Frank Zappa, Mr Bungle, Periphery (instrumental), sleepytime gorilla museum, meshuggah, serj tankian, peter gabriel, vivaldi, john zorn, merzbow, that1guy, buckethead etc. Maybe Ill grow up and enjoy emo one day like you
@ChainsawVsGod I agree. I like gutterals, exhales and all that jazz, but this vocalist sucks. His screams are horrid, and I can almost guarantee his singing is all tricked out in the studio.
