Wouldn't it have been easier for a ATC manager to ask the airline about using the space near ramp he was on about

Is any of that even the pilots problem or responsibility? Or should ATC call those people? Or does any of it even matter and cranky just wanted to pick a foreigner to berate and belittle?

@@i-love-comountains3850 I think he just wanted to give someone who barely speaks English a hard time. He seems to be _always_ like this.

Video title… Irritable and bullying JFK tower ground controller, who got bullied by his wife before he left the house, takes it out on a visiting Argentinian pilot who doesn’t even understand what the guy wants. It’s a bit bit long though isn’t it .

Is ATC declaring an emergency?

Something stopping him asking them ?

Pretty sure 1301 pilots don’t speak English nearly well enough to grasp whatever ATC’s saying...

Personally I don't think they need to be fluent, they sound competent _enough_ to do their job. It's just that ATC really wants to play telephone, like, let it go my dude.

Still trying to find out why they can't use any of that ramp space over there. . .

Erm... You're asking a busy pilot about ramp politics? Leave the guy to fly the plane FFS and take the questions off the flightline.

I feel like it isn't safe for a pilot to know so little English that they can't parse a slightly different request from the ground controller, regardless of whether it is something he should be asking the pilot or not.

I can def understand the controller (although he should have let it go after the first two times). Most communication between ground control and ramp is done via the pilots - since they are nowhere near each other physically. A is used clockwise, while B is used anticlockwise; everything going to the 22s from Terminal 8 needs to pass by that plane. Additionally, there are some restrictions for B748s and A380s regarding parallel use of A/B (and they have a max taxi speed of 17kt in general). You can't really use B to circumvent effectively, since 1) opposite direction traffic (cargo, Terminal 5) that might even have to wait for a gate, 2) not a lot of space to transition A->B after the bridge and restrictions for parallel use - B is simply not meant for clockwise use. Adding to that, there tends to be continuous taxiway maintenance, often leaving sections of A/B closed. Basically, if big plane pushes onto A, departure line waits. Even nowadays there seems to be a wider space than both taxiways combined available in the terminal area. While the first comment of atc was pretty long and convoluted, the following should be understandable to the pilots, especially since JFK ramp ops often require similar, non-standard phrases. Well, I spend way too long typing this out lol, both sides have their faults and I wish ramp gnd communications were better 😅

“And where terminal used to be where it isn’t any more ..” Seriously he’s asking an Argentinian pilot to understand what this means ? How does he know the pilot has even been there before ?!! Ridiculous and it’s unprofessional . Radio communications are supposed to be short and brief to the point . Whilst he yammering away like that nobody else can get through can they - and it is JFK, it does tend to get busy ! If the tower is not happy with how the Ramp are conducting operations, talk to the bloody ramp supervisor FFS ! What a piece of work this guy is ! He obviously didn’t get any last night !

If only Ramp had a frequency ATC could reach them on to directly communicate this inquiry!

He's right, but that's probably not a question for the pilot. Who still should have understood what was asked of him.
@Rasscasse

I don’t agree, it was far from a simple question and a very long sentence, with multiple descriptions of various areas of the ramp, including the mention of a building that isn’t there but used to be there et cetera. I think he was asking far too much of a pilot who does not have English as a mother tongue. The pilot was capable of understanding regular instructions from ground control about permissions and taxiways. He sounded competent to me.

It is not the pilot's job to resolve the internal quarrels that they have at the airport, they have enough to deal with 🙄

It doesn't seem like a very efficient system to me when the tower and the ramp don't communicate directly with each other, but rather try to resolve their disputes through the pilots. "Ask them, and then tell me" ... all that relaying through a foreign pilot. Jeez JFK! 🙄

Yeah, putting a lot of unnecesary pressure on the pilot, and getting annoyed at him. We know how JFK controllers can be, but still XD

Dafaq is this servant talking to his master like that? I swear every now and then the ATC needs a good flogging to remind them of their position in the scheme of things. They exist to serve the needs of a pilot and nothing else.
