The fact that the MV is a clear representation of Hobi being on the streets and looking up to J.Cole and then at the end he joins him at the top 🤌💜

Here are some things that I think make this a truly epic collaboration: 1. The immense respect they showed each other as artists. Many feature artists drop a few mediocre lines and bounce. J Cole dropped BARS. I absolutely love his part and it’s clear he took this collab seriously. He didn’t assume that because this was a “kpop” artist, his name on the track was enough. He acknowledged Hobi’s love for him. 2. In return, ain’t no WAY Hobi would cut even one second of Cole’s lines. Instead, he goes back to his roots as a dancer to express what this moment means to him. He starts in the same alley where J Cole filmed Simba, and he then shows himself dancing underground while Cole raps from the rooftop-just as he did when he was still a young underground street dancer grooving to Cole while J Cole was already on top. 3. But at the end, Hobi makes his way to the rooftop and they greet each other as equals, showing how Hobi has ascended to a place in his career where he can have a personal relationship with Cole as an artist with another artist. 4. I don’t know how much J Cole looked into Hobi’s music, but I absolutely felt that his lines had callbacks to More ave Arson. Even if not deliberate, that would only go to show how much they vibe together as artists. Cole raps about how his ambition as a rapper is strange kind of hunger that gets stronger the more you eat-but also how he’s thinking about whether it’s time to let go of rap. Similarly, in More and Arson, Hobi discussed how his greed as an artist drives him so he constantly still wants more, but in Arson, he asks himself if he should really keep burning brightly or if he should be done. 5. The fact that Cole said “J Hope…Cole World” is just SUCH a huge moment for Hobi. He himself once rapped “before there was Hope World, there was Cole World,” showing what an artistic influence J Cole was on him, and now his idol is directly acknowledging him. 6. Lastly, Hobi’s lines, while short, are SO full of references to his and BTS’s past work. BTS often talks about how BTS and Army walk a beautiful path together. The butterfly reference is an obvious callback to Butterfly. The kid at the beginning could represent younger Hobi or it could be a reference to The Astronaut, in which Jin also used a kid to represent Armyand sent them on their way, telling Army they would be ok while he was gone. 7. Hobi’s chorus is a perfect message to Army-a reminder for while he’s gone that he is always with us and that we are always with him. It reminds me of the famous line from a poem by ee Cummings that says “i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)" 8. Extra greatness: The sound-the instrumentation and the whistle are somehow SO both of them. I’m obsessed. 9. Easter egg: the billboard behind Cole says “it’s my call” and shows the car from Chicken Noodle Soup. This indicates it’s a message from Hobi, and it’s a bar in itself: “it’s my call” could mean “it’s my choice, I decide” (either to go to the military, or perhaps referencing that he has full artistic control, since haters often accuse BTS of being manufactured because kpop is so manufactured) and could also mean “last call,” as in this is an ending (closing chapter 2, the solo stage of Hobi’s career, or perhaps honoring J Cole’s lyrics about retirement?), or it could mean “I’ve been called up” (called to serve in the military). It’s just…SO good and if you blink you miss it.

Guys! I can't believe you missed all the references on the MV. Hobi danced to every word on JCole's verse. Jhope provided JCole a perfect sound to just jump in, and gave him all the time he wanted to spit so he could just dance to it. The start of the MV is a reference to JCole's Simba MV, it was filmed on NY. He was wearing a Avirex jacket, typically used on the 2000's. Hobi started dancing on the street, then he danced in the underground and then he went to meet Jcole in the rooftop. And the most symbolic for me when Jcole says that he might pick a different Hobbie, jhope stops dancing looking lost. The little boy is wearing the same jacket that JCole is wearing. I loved the song.

Also! Don’t forget, when he sing on the first hook “ every time I walk”. He’s walking on “walker st” one way street in China town 😀😀😀 I’m guessing he’s saying, there’s only one way to walk and that’s going forward 💜💜💜💜 at the last hook, there is also a billboard sign saying “it’s my call”, also guessing he’s saying he’s going to military service

That underground subway scene had lots of meaning. jhope used to freestyle to J.Cole songs when he young. And now he came full circle and is dancing to J.Cole verse on his own song. They were conversing in their first artistic love language, rapping and dancing. That moment felt very intentional, almost magical. :))) There were lots of references in that dance sequence. When J.Cole talked about "handing over the crown", jhope touches he head. When J.Cole said about "picking different hobby", jhope looked lost while dancing. That little kid at the beginning is wearing the same outfit as J.Cole. He was walking on the same streets that J.Cole did in his 2007 song "Simba". Jhope was dancing underground while J.Cole was rapping on the top and finally he "EXIT" from the subway and made his way to the top.. :) jhope let J.Cole had the big part intentionally, he is his Idol, Muse and i believe it meant world to him to have him on the track. P.S jhope made that whistle melody :-)))
@alicesworld1

70 year old Army here. First of all, the whistle is actually J-hope whistling. This was Hobi's farewell gift to Army. As you know, he will be joining the military very soon. Jin gave us a gift and now our J-hope gave us one too. It is so full of meaning. From the little boy, who could be J-hope talking to his younger self, or he could be reference to Army, or both. J-hope starting on the streets and subways underground and ending up on the roof with J Cole. Just wow! 💜💜💜💜💜💜

This track actually is getting a really good reaction from HipHop scene, I'm so glad! It's very solid, and emotional tbh. The quality was awesome. Hobi idolizes J. Cole a lot and the fact that he gave Cole a full verse in his own song speaks volumes about Hobi's respect for him. Fun fact guys, Hobi has written the melody and the whistle just came to him naturally and it was the way this song was born! A true genius!

I know that J Colle got a lot of flack for a collab with Hobi, but it is a full circle for Hobi from the beginning. J Cole waited to meet Hobi at Lollapalooza so he respects him. The idea that it's like the big brother encouraging the younger brother... they are going to keep going cause it is what they do best. Hobi said it was a gift to ARMY while he is gone so they don't loose hope in his future.

I agree, this is a song for me that gets better with each listen. I noticed that both Jin and Hobi were saying goodbye to a child (ARMY ?) in their MV's before entering their military enlistments. J Cole said about wondering if he should hand over the reins. Hobi said something very similar in "Arson" ..."choose what? Do I put out the flame or make it burn brighter?" The subway station reminded me of the "Danger" MV. Always continuing themes and symbols running through their music. Thanks for reacting.

That kid at the beginning of the video is wearing the same outfit as J.Cole was wearing at the top of the building. So maybe that was referencing to young J.Cole? This song is meaningful in so many ways. For J-Hope because it's him making a song with his idol, he started dancing to JCole songs and now his dancing to his verse on his own song. This is also meaningful as it's his last song before his military enlistment and he is basically saying that everything he does he does it for us and we have to keep walking with love and hope. It's the type of song that you can listen and relate throught any type of moods and any moment of the day, i prefer that type of song than a fast spitting rap type of song that is cool to listen the first time but doesnt have much replay value. We can also notice that the members "farewell" songs have important featurings for them, Jin had Coldplay which he respect and value a lot, J-Hope got his idol on the track, if that's the theme for every member can you imagine the collabs we'll got ? RM ft Nas or Drake ? JK ft Justin Bieber ? And so many more, that would be mind blowing.

While we all would want more Cypher-like tracks, BTS isn't about that life anymore. Cypher 3, they killed their haters. Ddaeng, they made fun of their haters. Mic Drop, they flexed on their haters. Cypher 4, they told their haters to love themselves. Ugh, they were so done with hate. Chapter 1 is done. The rap line was preoccupied with responding with haters. By the end, BTS was leading ARMY and listeners to discover better ways to live and live with others. Look at RM's and Hobi's solo work. There's no Cypher energy. It's exploration and discovery. They'd have to find other things to be angry about.

The intro extended my lifespan, so awesome and creative! "It's My Call"reflects BTS taking ownership of their lives and media. Every outlet was talking in circles about them joining mandatory military, receiving pardon, etc. They called all the shots stepped forward to initiate! Jhope went to a higher place, the roof, chapter two, only way is Up from here. But know he (jhope) will never forget who got him there, fueled him... Army and his muses.

Cole was rapping on the rooftop, and in the end, Jhope comes to meet Jcole at the top. This may represents J-Hope's journey from the bottom to the worldwide top, from the time when he danced to J. Cole's rap even before joining BTS to the day when he can make music with his muse. He even gave Jcole more part to show his respect even it's his song.

it´s so amazing because J-hope grew up dancing to j. cole and then he made the whistling melody and took it to the producer and made this track so i think they contacted j. cole and asked if he would write a rap part. this was j-hopes wish come true. it was like reading j-hopes diary of where his journey began. that´s why the melodi is so mellow. for me i get nostalgic feelings of old hip hop, i used to hear back then. and the jacket is also a old brand so he is litterally taking us though his journey in life until now when he finally meet j. cole in the end

*MV Theory/Thought* I think this is Hobi’s goodbye to the members and not ARMY. In the mv Hobi says goodbye to a little boy. This parallels Jin’s Astronaut with there being a little girl who represents ARMY. I think the boy represents the members since ARMY in previous mvs are always represented as a female character. (Hobi has even said he raised the maknae line.) Hobi entering the subway station could be a representation of when he entered BTS because the exit sign is prominent and early on he thought of leaving but chose to stay because he trusted the members. When he’s in the subway station it looks a lot like the scene from the Danger music video but this time he’s dancing alone. On the subway he’s sitting in the same spot he was during the Jimmy Fallon subway interview (where they talked about their early days), as well as a similar spot for Spring Day and Yet To Come mv. When he leaves the subway station he enters a crowded street but he’s solo. Then he goes to the rooftop and on the billboard is the phrase: It’s My Call. In the lyrics he says ‘for us’ not ‘for you’ which is usually how BTS speaks to ARMY in their songs. This is why I think this was a goodbye as he enlists to the members and not ARMY. Just my thoughts. (Entering the subway station interpretation from my sister)

I took me a few listens to really sink into the meaning of this song and every time I watch the MV I pick out more things. This time I noticed the billboard behind J-Cole that said "It's my call" and that hit me hard. Both J-hope and J-Cole are spitting about walking in their truth and destiny. Both do their art because of a true passion and love for it. They are saying they are in charge of what they do artistically and in life. Both are moving into a different faze of their careers but both have not lost their love for their art or connection to what matters. Lastly, It could also be a reference to the fact that BTS made the call to go to the military on their own. And J-hope is saying he is doing it but as part of the bigger picture for BTS and Army and wherever he is he will still be with us. 😭😭😭💜💜💜

You know what, I think Hobi’s leaving song is really a tribute to the two things he loves most- army and the artists who created the music that he loves. It’s pretty clear Hobi took a backseat on his own song, he intentionally didn’t have as many parts. But J Cole had a very long part, which was beautiful and amazing. I think Hobi is saying, everything I do is for army, and I would like to take this moment to highlight a black artist and rapper that inspired me and guided me here. That’s so powerful. I think it’s profound and honestly? Deserves a round of applause. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It's also a symbolic honoring of J-Hope's humble beginnings as a teen street dancer, his BTS members (Aren't the subway station shots of him dancing just reminiscent of the many shots of BTS' music video of "Danger"?) and his aspirations for everyone in the future.

I appreciate a lot of comments detailing what the twins may have missed in the MV and the lyrics 💜 I'm sure Jared and Jordan will still drill deeper into this, as they usually study the lyrics thoroughly. For those who aren't on Patreon, you may not know, the twins are actually on a break for a music fest they'll be attending. But they got up from their beds as soon as they heard this collab was coming. As you can see, they're not in their studio. So thank you my FAVE brothers for this!! We've been waiting for this from you. See you into more of COPE world! 💜

I was genuinely impressed with this song. I'm not into American rap at all, but I know Hobi has admired J Cole for a long time and it was such a chill lofi vibe. I also loved how many style references to old BTS MVs I saw in this MV. So, so many. For a goodbye before Hobi enlists? I don't think you could ask for anything more fitting. Also, as an aside, Hobi looked absolutely tiny next to J Cole. In Korea, Hobi is around average height or slightly taller. To see him with a giant western artist is just cute. 😊

As usual, I appreciate hearing your first and gut reaction. It was honest and beautiful and it was JUST FOR US. That's what BTS and any good performer is going for. It's different for everyone and everyone finds different meaning. Are there endless references to who the little boy is, how ARMY is represented, JHopes past on the street and rise to the top, and uncertainty and hope for the future? absolutely. More than I caught, I am sure. I look forward to learning all of them with you, as J-Hope puts out his explanations and meanings behind the song, as people like Bookish Theories explains their take and other wise ARMY catch all the easter eggs to help us understand. Bottom line, I agree, beautiful tribute to J-Hope's journey, his love and honouring of his influence to J Cole and the obvious mutual repect between them as performers. It is a song to hold us over while our Sunshine Hobi is away for his military stint- to give us comfort and bring us hope for something amazing in 2025! 💜💜💜

Oh guys loved your epic intro. This is a dream come true: The 2 Jays. I will wait for BTS to get together again asap but I think this is really a song for history. J Hope is making history. The amazing J Cole is giving a huge recognition to our sunshine. The lyrics are beautiful. I am so thankful for having this beautiful music in my life. Only gratitude for Hobi and for BTS. J Hope did some more Hope on the street dancing on Tik Tok

I went searching in the comment section but there is something few people mentioned that I want to speak about. My first time watching the trailer and the MV, what stood out to me is the billboard in the background in the rooftop scene, where you can see written the sentence "It's my call.". I feel it is an acknowledgment that he, J-Hope, is choosing this path, whether he be talking about his solo career or his enlistment, he reminds everyone that he is in charge of his own path. He is choosing to say goodbye now for a while but he'll come back stronger that ever and pride swells in my heart as I think about his growth for the last months, from the moment they decided to take a break to now 💜

Hello, 75 year old ARMY here. This song moved me to tears. I loved the spirituality behind some of J-Coles's lyrics, as well as the symbolism of Hobi's rise to fame. This is a fitting "farewell for a while" from J-Hope. (I enjoy watching your journey "down the rabbit hole." You make me smile.

First, boy-o-boy this is a new side of you and it was such a pleasant surprise. Also, JHope with JCole is like Hobi's inspiration with him. It was so epic for him so it was epic for us as well. 💜

To all the previous comments I would also like to add that in the first part of the video the street represents Life, the couple love and the memorial lost. The child having the same outfit as jcole could represent either Hobi younger self or his dreams, the child is also wearing j air sneakers and headphones which represents Hobi’s love for music, dancing and jCole. He shake the child hand to say goodbye to his dreams to go meet his hero and shake his hand for real at the top. Dreams come true.

I agree with your assessment. This song grows more on me the more I listen to it. It was J-Hope's gift to ARMYS as he is going to the military. He stated that this is his last song before leaving...just as Astronaut by Jin. Before he left.💜

Also, its been going around that they have another project together that will be released, so maybe the "spitting fire" will be present there...I wanted more verses from JHope but then I heard this was just the version with JCole, I understood why he gave the floor to him while allowing himself to retrace to his own "spotlight" of dance. They were definitely intertwining both their talents and allowing it to flourish with one another. Although I can't wait for just the Jhope version and the possible second project of them two on the same track.
