Not gonna even start to defend iffy lube, but I have a problem with a few things, first off, that's not RTV. What you had on your drain plug is warranty seal, that being said, if there's an issue with the oil change, DO NOT TOUCH THE DRAIN PLUG. Call them, make them tow it back, have them resolve the issue. If you break the warranty seal then you might as well have just dumped that oil on your driveway yourself.

I'm not a crush washer caused 2 quarts of oil to come out. It's also possible that when they removed the filter, oil fell onto a skid plate and later leaked onto your driveway. I could be wrong but 2 quarts from a reused washer doesn't sound right.

If you love your ride, buy your own oil and filters, pay the guy (that you trust) the $35 for the hoist fee, and let them change the oil. If your drain plug takes a crush washer, have a few on hand and tape it to the box containing the filter, that way, no excuses!

Used to go there all the time in the 90's - till I heard about them on youtube on all the scams. Never again! These days I either go to Speedy Oil change or Geralds Tire and Breaks for my oil change. Never had a bad experience with them.

That red "gasket sealer" is just an anti sabatoge seal. What that does and means is th jiffy uses that as sort of a warranty seal. If its off then that means someone else has touched the drain plug between oil changes. I know for my store we change the copper crush gaskets on ever subaru and most Hondas. They definitely didn't change the copper gasket

That’s not gasket sealer it’s tamper seal so if the plug was removed by anyone else and returned they’d know so they can blame someone for the problem.

im a BMW mec and i dont get it the oil change is so easy that most people can do it yes there is cars you dont want to mess with i have a friend with a Lamborghini super leggera it have as i remember 9 drain holes

My 2016 F165 is easy to change the oil. The filter is up top and you can remove the drain plug with your bare hands. I'm sure a stupid person can still mess it up really easy. That's why I do it myself. I dump the oil off at Autozone.

I feel your pain. I went through what you did and resorted to going back to doing my own oil changes a long time ago. Yup, it was Jiffy Lube that screwed up my last oil change at a "quickie" lube change.

Where I live it's more expensive to change my own oil. My car takes 6 quarts at about 5 dollars a quart for regular oil. 30 dollars plus 10 for the oil filter. 40 bucks to get under my own car and have to deal with disposing my oil properly. My local oil change place offers 21.99 plus shop fees and an extra few bucks for over 5 quarts of oil. Totals out to just under 30 dollars when all is said and done. Saves me ten dollars to go through a drive through and sit in my car while they change the oil.

PistnRods it's likely that when they went to drain the oil, the old oil was still clean/new so they were quick to get the bolt back in and cross threaded it. Of course they STILL CHARGED YOU for something you never received. There's a vid on yt from a manager who in the past would tell his employees to NOT do any repairs the whole day but still upsale and charge.

Dealers are far better. They have to take responsibility if they mess up. I asked service advisors at the dealer where I used to work, and in 10 years, they got 2 comebacks for a messed up oil change. Both times, the customers got reimbursed and returned because they were treated well. And meanwhile these lube shops get multiple cars a day

That gunk is tamper seal. It's basically telling that bolt hasn't been cracked when you leave the shop. It has no sealing ability but I still say you shouldn't go to jiffy lube

I usually don't mind oil changes. But cars now a days has these damn paper filters and in weird places. Screw that. And I found out about crush washers and my aprilia. Didn't have a bad leak like that but enough to notice a few drops.

I bring my fairly new car to the dealership to get oil changed. It's cheaper and they use a manufacturing oil filter instead of some cheap Chinese made one. These cheap quick oil change places are a bad thing. It may take longer but it's worth it to have it done with the right parts. Thanks for bringing this topic up. Glad nothing serious happened and it's poor customer service to not at least refund your money. I do all my servicing at the dealership and they stamp my maintenance book so when I go to trade it in or sell it I will get top dollar for it. Stay cool my friend!

A few years ago, a buddy of mine took his pickup to Delta Sonic for an oil change. The shop forgot to reinstall the drain plug. The engine seized half mile down the road. My buddy's insurance paid for the truck and sued Delta Sonic.

over tightening the drain plug with out changing the washer is the major culprit new washer and drain plug may solve it, some suppliers include the crush washer plus if the tech guy is good he can chase the threads and remove any junk with a magnet.

Well first that red shit is sercurity seal. They were thinking that since they fucked it up, and had to cover it up, They put the security paint on it and if that seal is broken after it leaves the shop then they will say YOU messed it up. But that paint is also for good reason. If a customer tries to tamper with it then there is proof that it was sealed before it left the shop

That most likely isn’t a gasket sealer, it’s their warranty seal so if you were to take it somewhere else and they fuck up and tell you that jiffy lube did it, then jiffy lube can check to see if the seal has been tampered with to determine if it was their fault, people always try to get something for nothing nowadays so it’s a way to cover their ass....even though they fuck shit up themselves

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that. I work at Jiffy Lube currently but our branch makes sure we don't do stupid shit. I've heard other Jiffy Lubes around the country having dumb idiots work there. It's really really bad.

Oh yea dude..don't ever go to those funky little places. Pick a mom and pop shop. Hope you get your wheels fixed him. I know EXACTLY what it's like to deal with incompetent mechanics. I'm dealing with one currently that fixed my mom's Honda civic up. It's been needing a new cat,but damn..it was worse then when we brought it in!

That red "sealer" is not gasket sealer. It's to mark that the drain plug hasn't been tampered with since the oil change. So that way after they tighten it, they put the red tamper seal on the plug so if someone was to come back and say their plug is stripped and they haven't touched it then the red seal shouldn't be cracked; it would be intact. Not saying JiffyLube is in the right but the dude seems to not know the basic shit that gets done with an oil change. And you take 5 quarts of oil, you were low about a 1 quart of oil, that's not gonna kill your car.

It's either the washer or the plug if it's a steel pan. If an aluminum pan it could be the pan.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh... I stopped going to quick lube places when the Walmart one broke the passenger door (that they had opened for some reason) on a LeBaron convertible I owned. And it's only because I saw them do it, that I got anywhere with it. Oh, and camera's everywhere at Walmart. They didn't fess up to it, I had to confront them. Never again. I do all my bikes and cars now for the last 20 years.

It was a late 80's J body convertible LeBaron. It was a 2 + 2 seater with two huge ass doors on the thing. The doors were massive things, almost the same length as the engine bay. When the quick lube guy swung the car into a spot after leaving the bay, the door swung open and went past the stops all the way to smack against the front quarter panel. The genius that he was then swung it all the way back and latched it into place, but after that the door would catch on the badly (and newly) bent front quarter panel with matching (and newly) bent front door edges. In the end Walmart made it right but it two a solid two weeks of hounding them before they would admin fault and send a check for the bodywork and replacement innards for the door internals. The car itself was a bit of a tank, minus the turbo... and blowing two head gaskets.... and living in the rust belt so it had some fender issues. Right, I hated that car. It fell apart piece by piece and I wasn't sad to see it go on to haunt someone elses life when it blew a second head gasket ;).

I took my car to get a oil change and they gave me a oil filter with a hole in it. Lost all my oil within a few days. Didn’t know till I pulled my car out of the garage and there was a puddle of oil underneath it

fyi that gunk is tamper seal it goes on the outside of the bolt the next person to do the oil change it will flake off its one of those things they do and if not put on correctly it could cause the leak as well.

That’s warranty seal from the drain plug lol and they usually don’t change the drain plugs and we use a torque wrench when we tighten the drain plug those guys didn’t take thre job well not professional and careless when I use to work at jiffy lube I inspect everything make sure everything is tight tires look good make sure the pan is not leaking and do the oil change changing oil is not hard haha people that work at jiffy lube fucking up oil changes obviously shouldn’t work there smh

Jiffy is the worst ever,they never make good on the mistakes they make. However no oil change place uses new crush washers. Typically its not needed ,you just had bad luck

My mom brought her 2017 Subaru Outback into a Subaru Dealership in Atlanta,GA. Needless to say the "Certified Technicians" forgot to put the oil filter back on, Then they tried to HIDE their mistake but you could obviously look and see the oil reminiscent(don't know if that's the right word to use) all over her engine bay. You could also smell the oil burning on the engine when you ran it. When my dad confronted the guy the guy admitted it and said he just forgot. Keep in mind this what was supposed to be simple oil change took 3 hours before my parents actually left the dealership!!! After all of this, the dealership still made my mom pay like $80 for her oil change, it's ridiculous!

Its sad because its common knowledge that you have to change that gasket out every oil change on the Subaru's, I doubt your car lost 1 qt from it but I'm sure it looked bad. Its unfortunate because Jiffy Lubes are franchised so its like McDonald's, I get great service and knowledgeable techs at one service center and a terrible experience like your at the one 2 miles down the road!

Exactly, I've been working at a Jiffy Lube in WA for a year now, I have full trust in all my coworkers to handle everything correctly. We haven't had a warranty in months. I guess it's how people are trained, if new techs are rushed to work in the pit there's bound to a mistake soon. I love all the hate that JL techs get. You hear lots of stories about how JL fucks up cars and that ruins the reputation for the good shops.
