I agree, the British movies of the 50's and 60's are the best. Some of the movies which were made during that period of times include Chase a Crocker Shadow, with Ann Baker; 21 Paces from Baker Street with Van Johnson and I wish these two could show here for us to watch.

This has got to be one of the Best mysteries ever. The murderer is not leaked out or hinted at during the show. Truly one of the best and unique mystery stories filmed. Loved the inspector.

Something in the detective’s way reminds me of Commissaire Maigret, as Georges Simenon describes him.. The times, too, the 50s and early 60s.. The world in black and white, in grey. I like these movies, both English and French.

Watch it again. Spot the killer in plain sight. This is a seriously good film.

British movies are so much more believable than American movies. All the actors, however minor the role, portray their characters naturally and convincingly. They don't seem like they're acting at all - and that is the highest compliment for an actor. Meanwhile, the screenplay was outstanding, revealing all the hard legwork and deduction required to solve a crime. Just excellent all around. I agree with the person who said this movie is underrated.

Ironically it was Ronald Lewis' violent behaviour off-screen that damaged his acting career and helped to bankrupt him. He killed himself in a bedsit in 1982.

Quote from IMDB 23th May 2924 'The main plot is inspired by the case of Patrick Mahon, who murdered his pregnant lover Emily Kaye near Eastbourne in 1934. He rented a bungalow, murdered Emily Kaye and dismembered her body there, and invited another woman (Ethel Duncan) to spend the Easter weekend with him whilst Emily Kaye's remains were in a locked bedroom in the bungalow'.

The suspect's car they refer to in this movie was the " A55 Cambridge Mark II "manufactured by the Austin Motor Company from 1959 to 1961. 1:05:28 You'd think they would have a constable ( policeman or policewoman ) on guard outside or inside her home 24/7 to protect her. but no, it's outrageous ! She's really at risk if the murderer comes knocking or breaking into her home. They have a constable guarding the empty house where the murder took place.

57:56 She answers the detective's question : no in regards to detective's question did he have any kind of accent ? Well, correct me if wrong but she has an american accent . I can't remember where in the UK , but there is a county or " a riding " ( political district within a county or shire) where brits speak something close to our accents " across the pond" i.e. here in the North Eastern part of the US

Jack Warner was one of the great actors of mid 20th century. Nice to see other good actors in film too. John Le Monsuier. One of them. Good film. Interesting how Brighton and Hove have enlarged since film made. Slice of society long gone.

@tango6nf477 idk about that. I typically watch this on another channel (just clicked on this one to avoid going looking for my usual version), and there are little or no ads on that one. Same movie, sooooo... why not the same commercials? Must have SOMETHING to do with the channel.
