Actor JIM CARREY is 'Dr. Robotnik' in "SONIC". Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world's speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth.
Wow he really looked at his role as Robotnik pretty deeply. Of course that's what you'd expect from a high level actor though. Nice that he enjoyed it.
As an actor, you gotta think on this level for even the smallest role, or it won’t be real. Jim didn’t let the fact that this was an over the top video game character get in the way of creating that reality. If the character doesn’t make sense to the actor, it won’t make sense to the audience in the end.
Same with me. I do remember when I first heard Carry would be in the film, I wasnt to sure. But after the second trailer, it was awesome seeing him in the role.
"...Robotnik came to the sudden realization that understanding nature wasn't enough - he had to dominate, control, and contort it. And so his goal in life became to control and/or mechanize anything he came across.."
@@BlueboiiiTheNerd We live in a Society where it's funny to think there is more than one Joker that calls himself joker that has issues with Society and are different people.
Jim Carrey is hands down my favorite movie actor of all time since childhood and it's awesome that he just perfectly cast as Dr Robotnik in The Sonic Movie. Also It's interesting to talk about his history knowing Sonic thanks to his grandson Jackson. But it's interesting that Dr Robotnik is a loner who is hated by society and try to dominate over his thirst of power. It reminded me of his other roles like The Grinch and The Riddler which are villians that are considered to be played by Jim Carrey too. And I knew it all along that one song from The Beatles: I Am The Eggman (I Am The Walrus) was an influence and a hint of foreshadowing his role as Eggman back in the 90's.
@@brianmahony7919 Me too. The Mask is my favorite Jim Carrey movie of all time that it's a childhood favorite that got me to pursue an acting career in the first place and a huge Jim Carrey fan in the first place
I LOVE hearing Jim talking like this, it is weird it is about a sonic movie, but he is talking about some real deep shit. He gives me calm. What an incredible artist he is.
And he isn't even that off if you look closely at the Robotnik we have had since the Genesis day. He is actually more faithful to the original Robotnik than anything we got from Unleashed onward.
"I love to play this game by my rules... I will conquer the world with my tools All my machines are made for destruction, I will build my empire" ~He is the Eggman, that's what he is
6:52 "James Marsden, not just a good looking guy, but a good guy" Remember when steve martin said this about carrie fisher and twitter eviscerated him? People suck.
Djinn Iblis yeah but that was more him finishing off what his grandfather started. It was more focused on why his grandfather was his motivation and what really was the ultimate life form.
I get it, Robotnik's grandpa, Gerald, who was his greatest inspiration was captured by the government and forced to do their nasty projects right after killing his granddaughter (Rotonik's cousin) in a raid, along with other innocent lives, not to mention, they also confiscated Gerald's greatest achievement that was created for medical research, but ended up being used as a weapon. Not sure about Robotnik's parents, but they were probably on a tight leash for being directly related to Gerald, so maybe Robotnik was actually robbed from a normal childhood.
Basically the entire plot of SA2 was a critique of US military interventionism. Maria was 12 years old and the Sonic’s word equivalent of NATO killed her in what amounts to a state-sponsored terrorist attack on a research facility that they funded. Let’s also not forget that Shadow was created to try and find a cure for Maria’s terminal illness, which was a clear analogy to HIV/AIDS, and this was happening roughly 50 years ago- in our word, that would’ve been the height of the Cold War. The symbolism is really overt, and it’s clear that Jim understands this. He’s done his homework.
@@Eddy0828 Dont believe the story will be, but Jim Carry + Sonic might just make this work. he seems born for the role, and maybe even bring new life to the francis
0:24 Oh please, for the love of all that is holy, don't show Jim the unholy baron that is Chris-Chan.... He must not know of that part of the fandom ever.
I'm surprised Zachary Levi wasn't in the Sonic movie since his a video game nerd. Imagine Zachary Levi, Jim Carrey and James Marsden all in a film together. It would be awesome.
I Dont care how much philosophy Jim says about doc robotnick.he has turned my childhood game into an spiritual quest and no the eggman and joker got nothing in common.Sonic is the hero that runs faster then the screen and sega mega drives sonic 2 was just as Big as super mario.i hope that tails are in the movie.tails are the little fox friend to sonic that could fly like a chopper.good memories.
I have no desire to see this Sonic movie, but there is something cool about Jim Carrey playing Robotnik. Somehow it takes me back to the days when Sega Genesis commercials would run during episodes of “In Living Color.” Nice full circle feeling there.
@@mrcritical6751 Robotnik must be jealous of Sonic cause Sonic gets the attention he deserves whereas Robotnik is nothing more than a sore loser because he was too taboo for society.
Or he was aware of Sonic and was watching him the entire time he was on earth but didn’t have the necessary funds to catch him so he tricked the government into tasking him to help catch him
1:50 Half the population has a triple digit IQ. 100 is in the middle, and half of people are there or higher. Not that I believe IQ is a definitive or comprehensive measure of someone's intelligence. It's just one test made up by one organization. Also I get what Jim meant, that Robotnik has 300+ IQ.
Classic Eggman puts animals into robots and seeks unlimited energy. Modern Eggman desires to build a mechanical utopia for himself and rule the world. Carrey Robotnik "wants to be the warden of a mechanized prison" and "be special to [...] everybody". Yep, Carrey is definitely playing the lonely mustache man trying to be a special cookie (with ressources we don't know how he can even afford).
Well there is that one origin story where Robotnik wasn't evil to begin with and only became evil after a failed experiment on the Chaos Emeralds. Maybe Jim is going that route for the "family friendly" appeal.
@@KyonV13 I hope not. The Evil Button approach really is not a good idea. I rather like the deep psychology route he is taking. It makes Eggman a character, not a device (would be in topic though lol)
I would love more than anything for this film to be very good and Jim delivering a well-received performance, I really would and I'm hoping for it to seriously happen after all these failed video game film adaptations of the past I'd just love for this film to change everything and finally show that they can be done right and Mr Carey still has it!
He's obviously not going to have the iconic look until an after credits scene but that fits the character. If we're going by the comics, he starts out as Robotnik and becomes Eggman.
I am absolutely making this Robotnik backstory part of my head canon for the games. It actually works really well with the Gerald Robotnik stuff from SA2, though I doubt that will come into the movie itself.
You're the only one who's brought up Trump, buddy. Might want to see someone about your TDS. It's unhealthy to bring political mud-flinging into every aspect of your life.
@@michaelweston2285 I'm not even trying to be mean or act aggressive towards you. I mean it, I'm concerned for your mental health that you feel the need to be a political activist on a Sonic the Hedgehog video. Is everything alright in your life right now? Seriously asking, not being sarcastic. (And just FYI, I don't personally like Trump, I just think it's concerning when people feel the need to drag political activism and adversary into every walk of life. Great to see Jim embracing sonic, cant wait to see this movie. Love the casting, hope the next movie is more based in sonics world with robotinic living now in sonics dimension. and we get knuckles tails and metal sonic.
