@@thedudewhoabides69 ... im pretty sure he didnt use drugs when he made this act.. and even if he did it doesnt show.. besides.. u need to be out of charachter to be funny for large amount of people who dont know you.. its called stand up.. you need to have a charachter because u cant be just boring urself..
I saw this many times back in the early 90’s. had it on VHS lol. Anyways I’ve never ever forgotten about the Eastwood face. The most incredible impression I’ve ever seen. His entire head is moving!
This was in 1991 and at 41:35 he literally does the mask which is 3 years later! This man is one of the all time greats of Acting, Comedian and Impersonates to ever perform! I could watch him for 8 hours straight and not get bored!
Same with the joker. You can search for "Unsanctioned Buffoonery" and find a video that explains it rather spot on. It's all so natural, thats why he get recived this way, i guess.
The ending really showed his private, personal and spiritual battles. His comedy is his coping mechanism. I pray for him. He is my favorite comedian ever.
Nicely put. He's working in his comedy through difficult emotions and dark energy, self-judgement, anxiety, childhood wounds, self-esteem, connection to the divine, life purpose, self-control, self expression, self-acceptance, permission to be who you are, standing in one's power. And I'm only 16 minutes in! Cosmic, powerful stuff! He's been working on it his whole life. Close to home for me! I have to keep pausing.
I'm sure for Jim, this is the greatest compliment you could give him. He really looks like one of those adults that never lost his sense of being a kid. I like to think I'm the same.
@Jay Johnson Most men grew up to be responsible and be a slave to the cooperate system. Loosing all their innocence and free spirit, one has when their a child. I'd rather be a dumbass than a depressed grown up, worrying about bills and getting to work on time.
@@dovah2162 lol ik it just sounded like you were saying he wasn't with us anymore because we will never have anyone like him. It sounds like you miss him, which to me sounds like he died... you actually scared me, I had to go and search it up, like I nearly had a heart attack!
Im 31 and i still run around and say “allrighty then”, “spank you” and “bumblebee tuna”. Propably many more Jim quotes from his movies. He has made me laugh more than anyone else on the planet. Love your work Jim
If You are depressed it is OK for now - but always remember that - even if You can not figure it out right now - you can be happy again - even happier than You ever were! Trust me because I made that same experience!
@Pikachu don't blame the world, negative individuals that inhabit it, that's life question is you fena let someone or something as depression keep you from living life? It's a state of mind, been there, never again. Problems everybody got problems some worse than others. What ever the situation was that triggered it shake it off. You control your life you and you alone. No pills no shrink only you.
He's definitely one of the greatest of all time he has it ALL the jokes the expressions the impressions the moves ...every joke is better than the last leaves you wishing it would never stop...LOVE YOU JIM CARREY THANK YOU FOR THE LAUGHS!!!!
can't get bored watching this. Must have watched this 20 times so far over the years. The man can literally make you laugh while working up a sweat like an athlete.
For those wondering, this is in 1991. His first hit movie was Ace Ventura in 1994. He was big on TV during this time with shows like SNL and In Living Color, but not quite a household name yet.
I saw the special when it first aired. What was on tv wasn't like today. I remember the shirt he's wearing and that I fell of the couch crying from laughter. But listening in Sept 2022 ah the oh..nuclear holocaust...yeah
He literally is a man who left all his "fuxx" at home and went all out. This is actually a motivational tape for any of us who know what we are capable of but scared of doing it in fear of being judged/backlash. This guy is a blessing
100% right here. He looked in that mirror and said fuck em'. I'm gonna do me or not do it at all. Thankfully he chose this. "So you're telling me there's a chance" Yes Jim. Yes.
The paradox is that jim displayed the actual natural state of human minds, which is like this so restless and unpredictable. So he actually did this extremely natural act, while people do it unnaturally !!! Master fuckin piece, jim carry is. And there are layers to what can be learnt from this man just by observing him doing things and talking, closely. ❤
Right!? Like when my mind goes back, that's the type of shirt I see my dad in every single time. Except it was a weird silky suede haha had a jacket too that matched 🤣

I saw this special when it came out on cable, way before, Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, Yes man, Me Myself and Irene, Bruce Almighty, The Truman Show, and most especially Man on the Moon. So much of this show embodies massive personas and ideas he later adapted into all of his greatest films. The fake nervous breakdown in his act was already tapping into the mind of Andy Kaufman, and looking to shock the audience rather than just make them laugh. To this day this is one of the most impressive solo comedic acts I’ve ever seen, all while remaining totally clean. This show will always be timeless, and a true testament to how much raw talent was inside of him already.
ngl the nervous breakdown section had my anxiety flaring up, I had to pause to relax a couple times. if shock was what he was going for, he succeeded 😅 tho im not sure of your definition of "clean," he certainly didn't swear but he *did* talk a lot about sex and drugs (and a sprinkling of mental health) XD so *maybe* not entirely family-friendly lol I do agree though, I can come back to this year after year and enjoy it just as much as the first time I watched it. A comedy classic.
Robin Williams is probably neck and neck with Jim in putting so much energy into a stand up set. I’ve seen both their stand up specials and they both come off the stage like they’ve just come out of a shower, soaking with sweat.
I really like his shirt. Reminds me of the early to mid 90's. At least the childrens clothing 😆 Couldn't find a year for this show in the description, so I found it in the comments. 1991. That's the year I was born haha.
Not gonna lie from the ear wiggles to the eyebrows it's hard to do and most people can't do it.. him and Robin Williams are my fav... I learnt how to do most of that for laughs but he is goat level on those..
Naaah, he wouldn't make it in Hollywood. He's too tall, too old, too ugly, he has no charisma and most of all - he's not funny! Maybe he should audition for SNL, but I highly doubt even they'd take him, tbh... He's a lil' bit annoying & creepy, imo. He needs a reality check asap!
@@anbuhyuga8299 I watched this live on tv when I was a kid. I've been describing that interlude to people for YEARS. LOL. I'm so happy I got to see it again!! Jim is the best.
@@marvanbee yep... I loved him on In Living Colour... I think that was where I first saw him... I was a kid as well, also if I remember correctly Jennifer Lopez was a dancer on that show.... Ah yes they were called the fly girls... LoL...
One of Jim's best unrated movie's performance was in "cable guy" a film we need to watch again and again to see all the dark and funny details put on his character. Jim is unique!
Couldn't agree more! Just you mentioning such reminded me of how his character actually gave me the creeps one minute, funny the next, then annoyed and that ending was the icing on the cake. Very underrated movie and performance!
Yes! A very interesting character. But somehow I feel Jim was relating to that character on a deep level. There is something behind Jim’s eyes that says lonely & pain.😢
I'm amazed at the perfection of every move, every punchline... Holding this high standard with so many funny faces, stretched gestures and all the script above all for so long is just mesmerizing. He's truly a genius.
There were like only two parts where I wasn't laughing through this whole thing. You know you're a true comedian when you can still make someone laugh today with something that was filmed for a generation long before yours. No one is like him, not at that level. Truly spectacular, and will be in the archives of the greatest comedians who have ever lived. He will be remembered today, tomorrow, and beyond until the end of time. The 30's and 40's gave us Charlie Chaplin; the 90's into the 2000's gave us Jim Carry.
yeaaaa dude. but also i love ROBIN WILLIAMS !!!🙏🙏 🤩😍 He was also a GREAT IMPROVISATION !! i like love them both same !!! .. Just Robin more laidback ....
Forgive me, but I fail to see Robin Williams being that funny. I know he came ealier than Jim, yet I find lots of his jokes to be a bit rude and corny. Jim is definitely the better one here.
Jim really becomes the character he is portraying. It’s like he leaves his body & the character enters & takes over, sort of like possessed if you like.He is the best at what he does & not just another stand up comedian but a genius in his art.
I watched some documentary a while ago called Jim and Andy where they follow Carrey getting into character for a role as Andy Kaufman. He was always in character. He became so good at it that when he would be around family members of Andy, they'd really feel like they were talking to Andy, not Carrey. I can only imagine what kind of toll that can take on one's mental health, changing personas throughout life, but I admire how dedicated he was to his career, truly one of the greatest
Oh my Gosh, so many years later and he is exactly right. What he brought to our attention has never changed, it's the same story, not only here in America, but all around the world. Thank you, Jim Carrey.
Watching it for the first time and it’s mental seeing it. Most of his jokes or bits made it into ace Ventura. He straight up does the grinch, Bruce almighty, the mask all within the first 30 mins. Love the bloke.
I love this standup. Usually standup comedians dont make me laugh that much but this actually had me dying with laughter😂. The part were he told everyone to get out was so funny. Love you Mr Carrey
I remember seeing this several years ago. I've never laughed to the point where I was in pain, but Jim Carey did that to me. My stomach still hurt the next day.
This is life, but not as we know it, Jim... Let us just breathe for a minute and take it all in... God, this is beautiful... Look at that mushroom cloud...
The people in the audience prob didn’t even know how much in the presence of a legend they were in. You can’t even do some of these bits anymore nowadays!
The comedy club is full also they laugh, scream and whistle at every thing he says. So yeah, I think they knew he's a fantastic talent and would go far.
It’s fun that he pulls his imitations from such iconic bits of American cinema history. His imitation of chief Dan George from “the outlaw Josie Wales“is spot on in his bit about being from Canada
