I've been hearing about Tesla's imminent demise for over 12 years now.

The amazing thing is how Tesla manage to sell more than 100,000 very expensive cars in 2017 with zero marketing. Maybe that's why the TV networks hate it so much, no money for them from Tesla.

This guy is either delusional, or just foolish. Maybe both. One point just flat wrong - no option. There is no possible way that anyone - no matter how big the company - could match Tesla's automatic-driving expertise. Building and testing the software simply takes time - a lot of time. Tesla has enormous amounts of data, gathered from thousands of cars on the road over several years. That data and the experience over years pouring through the data is invaluable. This is not one of those problems where you can spend twice as much, and get there in half the time. The big car manufacturers are several years behind, and will need years to catch up. This guy is just another short-seller in danger of losing a lot of money.

I got tons of respect for Chanos, but the advice of Warren Buffett always holds true, stop messing with stuff you dont understand, clearly burned his fingers on this short, and is trying to build a narrative and a storyline, in Chanos own statements he gave it few years before it would collapse, the stock only gone up not below his short.

Time will prove who is right.

I wrote my statment too early, having seen the full video now, I lost any respect I had for Jim, when asked about fraud which was both in Enron and Valeant the two he compared too, he pointed out few stuff that is far from fraud.

Tesla shares up by 18% since this interview. Thank you Chanos, when short sellers are squeezed out it provides nice free leverage for us long term investors.

"And they have to provide a supercharger network which others don't" - genius Jim - everyone with a Tesla can go all across the country without much extra hassle but you can't in other electric vehicles - what a benefit for non Tesla cars. /facepalm Tesla UNDERSTANDS that a supercharging network is necessary to sell EVs so they are fully functional replacements to ICE. He clearly doesn't understand why people will line up to buy Tesla Model 3 and not a Chevy Bolt for instance. Saying Porsche is coming out and going to compete isn't true either without a charging network. Porsche can't compete for 50K or less for an EV ever. The 35K model 3 is coming by the way - end of this year. EVs aren't going away and will start to take over massively by 2025. I will fully support Tesla over other manufacturers because if the other guys had their way they wouldn't be touching EVs and would say it's just not feasible. The truth is all about money, ICE cars sell double (if not more) since their lifespan is much lower, ICE cars require much, much more maintenance, generating a lot of money at dealerships. Not to mention the fuel for those ICE cars.

I have this video set up as a reminder on my calendar every year on this date. If I ever need a good laugh this calendar reminder usually changes my emotional laugh quotient for the day. Chanos' opinion has proven to be wrong on almost every single point and faded away while Tesla has continued to soar as an EV/Energy industry leader.

This Chanos guy is getting desperate and grabbing at everything and anything to discredit Tesla. He must be losing good chunk of change...LOL

The reason why there is so much churn in management is that it is hard demanding work and not everyone is up for it or can sustain Elon's pace.

I honestly can’t tell you how much I love watching Jim’s interviews... he’s one of my favourites.

He's forgetting brand recognition, the gigafactory, growth, and ingenuity. Chanos is usually right, but he's wrong on this, he usually hedges his hedges so Kinekos will be fine, maybe even surge if Tesla stock jumps.

I've bookmarked this RU-vid video and created a yearly Google Calendar reminder to review the accuracy of Chanos' statements and predictions. While I think he is wrong on most of his predictions I also think Tesla will do everything they say they will do but about 6 months later than they say they will.

I think Jim Chanos is looking to exit or reduce his short position and a friend of mine thinks that he may be reverse pumping and dumping his short positions because they are at risk in the next four months in that Tesla could make a break thru in its Model 3 ramp up. If that happens the massive short interest will start to cover by buying back the Tesla shares and that process will drive the share price up and cause more short positions to cover. While a massive short position in the market looks bad for Tesla it also has the ability to set off a self fulfilling landslide. That's what my friend said he could be doing, I myself would definitely never say that. 6:02

1:56 Porsche MissionE is coming (how come they didn't call it the eMission?), Jaguar iPace is here, Audi eTron also. These will all be great cars and strong competitors for Tesla but if Tesla's North American market share falls from say 60% to 30% at the same time as market grows five fold as it will, then Tesla's absolute production numbers will go up not down, Tesla will still grow. Jim is a smart guy, he must know that.
