45:15 "Jeff was seeing Karen Angle, he lied to Dixie about it. Kurt had found out and said that he was going to kill Jeff and he is VERY capable of doing so." I love how he said that.
A gold medalist (or any medal for that matter) Olympic heavyweight wrestler can basically choke any man out......if he holds onto the choke he can kill any man. That's pretty much the score LOL.
Why did Kurt care, though? Hadn't Kurt & Karen broken up by that point? If so, why would Kurt get provoked over who his former wife sees & doesn't see?
Speaking of Hernandez, I worked with him at an indie show around 2010 i think it was. At the time i was 290lbs of brick shit house. He lifts me up for a border toss and drops me down down and I swear to god he dumped me onto a bed made of soft down feathers. Lifted me like i was a bottle of water. And god, such a good guy to boot. Super funny. Very humble. Here he is, national tv star, and were all local kids just trying our best. He took his time with us, came out two days early to teach at our school for a few hours a day. Ive worked with a few national stars over the years, and he is by far in the top 3 of nicest and most giving dudes out there.
@@HomerGillette-i3p He was often referred to as Super Mex and with that size, that physique and things he could do and to my knowledge (take that with a pinch of salt) he's never injured a fellow wrestler he worked with because as Dutch Mantell says wrestlers take a vow like doctors almost of Do no harm
Jim probably thought he would've been better off unclogging his shitty toilet with his bare hands then shaking the hand of the archbishop of talent bury.
I hated Cornette on TV as an 8 year old kid!!!! But at 35 and somebody that hasn’t really watched wrestling for 10-12 years, I find myself more interested in what the man has to say about it than anybody else I’ve ever heard. His knowledge is deep. I wish I could validate everything he actually says as the truth. Then I’d be content.
iLLBiLLsRoastBeats I put Cornette podcasts on every night when I lay down getting ready for bed....but I find myself staying awake for an extra 2 hours to finish his podcast instead of falling asleep in 15 minutes like I intended to.
@@ThereIsNoLord Is that Crossbuster specifically supposed to be a Bad Religion Crossbuster? Because if so, I just wanna give you a respectful, "YA-HEY!"
+Mark Boon That IS the only reason. Russo pushed Jeff as a top guy, and that has been the only time Jarrett was ever a top guy, so yeah, he wants Russo, who agrees with Jeff that Jeff is better than Hogan, Flair, Rock, Austin, HHH, HBK, Angle, Hart, and everyone else. Only Vince Russo can see the main event potential in a man with a pink shirt, white pants, and a floral print. I mean, how can you not see the main event in a man wearing pink floral shirts and white pants?
I can’t see why people have an issue with Cornette. If anything, from all the different types of media that he’s on, he is a consistent guy. Nice guy Jim!
@@crafciak31 Likewise. About 7 times out of 10, I agree with him. But there's those other 3 times where he clearly just doesn't get why someone/thing is entertaining.
The main issue i see folks having with Cornette is he still holds to such an old school 'carny' philosophy concerning 'protecting the business' from smarks etc etc. It's ridiculous at times, like that ship has sailed dude since the internet. That said, his stories are great and always worth listening to
@@MelancoliaI When people are invested in kayfabe and story telling us when the business is at its hottest. When people are "just having fun" and essentially mocking the past, they're mocking something that hardcore fans enjoyed... And yet those same usual offenders start crying when Cornette and his fans offer opinions that don't brown nose those individuals. Jim Ross wasn't even allowed to state who his favourite wrestler was without Omega fans attacking him for NOT saying he was.
I watched wwe at the tail end of the attitude era, haven’t watched in a hood 15 years. I stumbled upon cornets by accident, I’ve been listening non stop for weeks. He’s a brilliant orator and story teller.
Dude who loves, respects, and understands the wrestling business = fired Dude who has absolutely no idea how to run/book a wrestling promotion, and has no love or respect for the business = kept on the payroll until he was let go in secret like a goddamn thief. LOLTNA.
It works like that everywhere the people who are shit at their jobs and lick ass get further than people who are passionate better and stand up for themselves .
You don't even know what the hell you're talking about because the only reason you even HAVE this info is from the other Jim Cornette interviews. Not because YOU personally know. Cornette only talked so much shit about Russo because of his experiences that he had when working with him and he didn't like the fact that Russo wrote the show and he didn't get to. So he hated him for it.
Disco Inferno introduces a tag team which will revolutionize the pro wrestling world: "The Evil Architect" Bill Ding & Invisible Man. Damn, now THAT could print money!... 🙄
@TheDreReichDude You're either being sarcastic, rhetorical or unaware of the story that he was brought in by Russo to have a New Yorker nearby. Praise God DI was controlled by the WCW booking committee. They weren't so on-the-ball either, but they saw how, even compared to THEM (which says quite a lot), he was an idiot.
The number one problem from the success of The Attitude Era is that it lead to people for years on end believing that Vince Russo was capable of being head writer with no real filter
I have to admire Matt Striker, I know he is both somewhat religious and right-leaning, but he never once interjects on Cornette, just lets the man talk because he knows it's Cornette's interview not his. He does a good job leading Cornette and he knows when to let him talk. His interruptions are minimal and he's good at self deprecation humor (I popped when he made the joke about everyone changing the channel on his "live segment"). Definitely a pro.
ya but if you sit down with someone and insult their beliefs stating that if you believe that then you can't possibly be right in your head it would be natural to retort.
Cornette is such a great man to listen to and unpopular opinion # 3,564 I think Matt striker is an amazing commentator and his voice is just beyond soothing😂
You mean: Hawaiian Brian the Broadcasting Lion, King of Arcadian Vanguard network, Susie's favorite boy and the proprietor of the French Toast Chateau 😂
@@guyincognito5706 Me too!! Especially since there is a shoot interview of Stryker interviewing Jim! 😂 But after listening to Brian for a while, you realize Matt is much more soft spoken. Brian has got a lot of disgust/rage with the wrestling business, there's a reason him and Corny work so well together... although a wet fart was better than Jim's former host. We don't say that C U Next Tuesday's name around here 😂
John Chan don’t think he was being a dick with his response, think he was telling you who it was and when he was relevant, in case you were unaware.... it took me a second to place his voice, myself, as little as he speaks
Sorry dude I didn’t mean to sound like a dick. If you RU-vid matt striker teacher gimmick you’ll see who he is. He also did some work on the wwecw revival.
@@garyrmatthews3808 yeah it's been a while but I remember Matt Stryker. And I'm sorry I came off a little rude myself. Just a bit of miscommunication from both ends my apologies.
Matthew O’Riordan Limited in comparison to wrestlers, but he took a lot of bumps. He was doing house shows and getting punched off the apron every night for years.
lol hilarious that he throws in I went to WENDYS and had two triple cheeseburgers lol how do you remember your meal at a fast food restaurant while contemplating your future employment lol
wendy's is hos fave. he always has to throw in how many triple cheeseburgers he ate from wendy's. his arteries gotta be clogged than worse than my toilet after eating only 5 buffalo wings. no offense tho. i used to eat like that until i was diagnosed with the beetus. then i was like well dammit no more triple cheeseburgers😂😂😂😂oh well. diabetes isn't that bad. i mean like if the worse thing that happens is i gotta switch triple cheeseburgers for a side salad then fuck it ya know. life goes on. i'm healthy now. but i still get a little value menu wendy's double cheeseburger every so often. double value meal cheeseburger and small fries. not as good as the triple cheeseburger but oh well lol. still good
The medication Russo couldn’t be bothered to look up is Succinylcholine, is muscle paralyzer that would also paralyzed the diaphragm which is the muscular end of breathing. Abyss would’ve died. They could’ve used the Name of the med (phonetic : SUCK-cee- no - ko- leen) To his childlike delight: SUCK LOL.
Regarding the segment with Abyss and Dr Stevie Richards, I actually know where Russo got the idea from. Its from a movie called "What Lies Beneath" in which a Doctor (SPOILERS) uses an anaesthetic called "Halothane" to physically paralyze his wife, whilst also keeping her conscious and aware. But the way the drug is portrayed in the movie is not how it works in reality, but it seems that Russo believed that that's how the drug works in real life.
If Russo wasn’t a fucking dunce, and did the smallest bit of research, he could have easily used succinylcholine as the drug, because it’s an actual drug that in the right doses can produce the effects described in the segment. Also, it was used in electroshock therapy, which would have fit the “mental illness” angle even more.
@@blakemeads9225 I still see notable names from wrestling defending Russo, and I just don't get it. Are they really THAT oblivious?! Every writer, on day 1, learns that they need to do fucking research. He doesn't know wrestling, he knows movies. Wrestling is not movies, yet he just won't go away. People love him somehow.
@@MrHawkelement The one positive that I can say about Russo is that he does seem to try and book angles for everybody on the roster, even the talent that is hardly used. Now, there may be a good reason that the talent isn’t used in the first place! Lol but that’s a different conversation. But this is why you see talent like Eric Young, Elix Skipper (in WCW), etc. being placed into Russo angles. Which again, can work as a positive (to see what the talent is capable of, can they take the ball and run with it, etc.) or it could showcase how horrible they are. If only Russo could have wrote sensible angles that made sense on a pro wrestling level, he could have been the next Paul Heyman in terms of being the one guy who could break new talent in on a regular basis. But since Russo’s writing was so horribly inept, you had chaos instead.
Jim cornette is so entertaining and really is one of the most knowledgeable ppl in the wrestling business. He worked in every promotion from the 80s til present day. He is one of the best bookers of his era but i really appreciate his old school southern based style but this is a new era and time as wrestling became sports entertainment. The reason russo and cornette are such polar opposite are russo just cared about the entertainment part of wrestling as cornette was more into the in ring product. Jim cornette is the human encylopedia of professional wrestling with time less true stories.
I was watching this while sleeping/dreaming. The dream was that I was listening in on a bunch of old wrestlers sharing stories and the cane part was Fabulous Moolah talking. Lol our brains are something man.
Gotta be careful what you let into your ear holes while you sleep, friend. Fell asleep to Forensic Files a few nights ago and woke up thinking I'd murdered like 20 people. With an axe. And Antifreeze. And a 45. And butcher knife. And a hefty bag. And
Trying to get corny to work with russo is like a teacher trying to get two kids who fight each other to be friends lol btw jeff jarrett is the teacher lol
28:45 Dude...just like that, huh? Like it's a snack or some shitz. Classic Triples are fuckin huge! 10 years ago, they were even bigger! Props, Jim Cornette. Props.
Jim has a gift when it comes to talking, whether it's a wrestling promo, telling stories or trying to convince ppl that AEW sucks lol. He's up there with Heyman in that category, although I still think he's always a few years behind the rest of the wrestling industry but thats ok it's bc he knows so. I wish he could find a way to be happy or at least content as just an on screen talent for any of the bigger wrestling promotions today. It would be awesome
jim cornette is like one of the few that can call me an idiot and i would just take it respectfully due to how entertaining truthful and insightful he is growing up i hated the dood but as an adult i realize hes one of the most sane real people in wrestling lol
Not a surprise at all. There are a lot of people in corporate world who know how to pander to bosses and convince various people that their horrible ideas are great.
It would have been better but I imagine Russo would have found a way to ruin it. Remember he was the one that called the network (it was either Destination America or Pop TV) and badmouth Dixie claiming she knew nothing and the company would not be a success unless he was running things which eventually led to the network dropping them.
@@revans100591 It was Pop TV that Russo did that with, I'm 90% sure. Russo has made a living, fucking talented/wealthy people over. Anyone who disagrees is a mark for the attitude era and needs to look at literally anything else he's done.
Russo has that uncanny ability that some individuals have to be able to hustle their way into a job. Then after he gets there and shows his complete ineptitude and everyone wonders why in the hell did they hired him in the first place.
Just watch the last couple of years of WCW to see what happens when you leave Russo in charge. Russo has some good ideas but he needs to be under someone who understand the business and cam reign him in
anybody who says russo isn’t creative is ignorant but he should never be left unchecked like he was in wcw and tna and that’s not knocking the guy cause i personally love vince on screen underrated heel and i’ll give him credit for the good he’s responsible for and blame him for the bad shit he’s responsible for
Well just like Corny has said before, for every 100 ideas Vinny Ru churns out, maybe 2 are good. The rest are ridiculous and Jerry Springer trash TV bullshit.
It still pisses me off as a fan to see all the great Wrestling in NWA/TNA from 2002 - 2009, only to have it Wasted from Impact Wrestling from 2010-2012. So Many Great Matches So Many Great Wrestlers So Many Great Memories All pissed down the drain through Extreme Mismanagement and Extreme Negligence. I miss TNA. Rest in Peace to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Born in 2002 Died in 2012. Such a Damn WASTE !!!!!
Yea I remember watching TNA as an alternative to WWE back in the mid and late 2000's as a kid in middle school/high school. I was hyped on it back then and thought they had potential but then stuff got pretty weird.
@@petersavonich123 I did the same thing but it felt kinda weird, finding out what TNA stood for outside of that one tv show. Only found out as an adult. =/
In Jim’s defence, ECW and modern wrestling are eerily reminiscent of The Fall of the Roman Empire. People cheering as other human beings literally destroy themselves like they’re in the Roman Coliseum. That’s Vince Russo/Paul Heyman insanity. America is the Roman Empire.
Listening to Cornette talk about how he thought that TNA was the best chance as an alternative or as someone to challenge WWE that will happen in his life time makes me even more interested and excited for All Elite Wrestling. Maybe Cornette was wrong.....
TNA had Jim cornette, Vince Russo, Jeff and Jerry Jarrett, Bruce Pritchard, Eric bischoff, hulk Hogan, Ed Ferraro and Dixie Carter and still failed. I see two names missing there ... Paul Heyman & Vince McMahon. Hmmmmmm? The only 2 that knows how to run things.
you'd think he'd get himself in some sort of shape besides a pear shape, after being in the business for so long. He's had more surgeries than most the wrestlers!
I love that he said "To me, in the wrestling business no body is ever gonna have that much television, that wide reach of television, that kind of production, that kind of talent roster, that kind of chance to challenge Vince McMahon" I love that he said it, I love that it was true and now I love that AEW is actually doing it. Mind you if I have 50 million dollars and was about to open a wrestling company this is the first man I would hire. The man knows wrestling.
@@psynque I have watched the wrestling industry for 30 years child. AEW is what the industry has moved to and will be around for a long time while the WWE gets sold and dies.
compromising and working with russo, eating sushi, drinking alcohol... who is this jim cornette? I guess he was a way different person back then, what was it like 13 years ago? cuz the jim cornette I know of today from his podcasts doesn't even wanna be in the same state as russo, let alone the same room, and all he drinks is diet sprite and eats fast food burgers
Anyone else believe Jarrett was with Dixie Carter then left her for kurt angle ex Karen??? I guess this because once Jarrett and karen started to date Dixie fired all of Jarrett friends.
I can see the theory but I doubt it. Jarrett has said and I believe it as most likely that she saw it as an opportunity to make a power play because she now has justification to make decisions she wouldn’t have had rationale to make before.
I really do wonder what Foley thinks about his good friend (because he loves Foley to death, most do) Jim Cornette's views on Hardcore Wrestling. Which Cactus Jack and Terry Funk practically invented. I mean, I imagine he just shakes his head and tries to drown it out, but it must be a little annoying.
Mick's not exactly attached to hardcore wrestling as if it's "his baby". He criticized (for Mick) Heyman doing dumbshit (My words) in ECW that made his match mean less, forcing him to do more in his first book. I've also never heard him speak highly of current hardcore wrestling or death match wrestlers.
The Exorcist 3 had that exact storyline funnily enough. Succinylcholine Chloride was the drug used by the Gemini Killer, though expecting Russo of all people to know that is laughable.
I can see that angle, but most interviewers ask relevant questions in the middle of a diatribe like this. Still excellent either way, because corny is excellent to listen to, but the interviewer could be better.
@@FilmThePoliceFTP Well Matt Striker is a huge wrestling fan and was probably just enjoying letting Cornette go uninterrupted. He probably identified that most people just wanted to hear Cornette rant, which is pretty much what his fanbase enjoys.
The name Keith Mitchell in conjunction with WCW and TNA always amuses me. There was a 1970s era Shakespearean Actor named Keith Michell who was in a number of TV Productions. I am unsure if he ever worked with Sir Kenneth Olivier!😏😂B.W.
"No one will ever have the kind of money/production to challege WWE again" I wouldnt exactly call AEW a challenge...but the Khan's def got the money/production. Extra added bonus for our entertainment is that they hire comedy and indy guys Jimbo despies. Say what you want about them by they have the WWE scrambling to put out a bettet product out and Jim blowing a gasket every PPV...im already enjoyjng them and they have even started airing regular shows. I love this part where he think he is the savior of the business and he is going to save TNA from the evil doer Vince Russo. Someone should make into a comic. Russo sucks and Corny is a very good booker, but the term delusions of granduer certainly fits here
