One thing I like about Jim's podcast, it's not the rants, it's the history lessons I learn about the wrestling business. Being born in the 90's and raised during the Monday Night Wars, there's a lot of stuff before that I don't know. This was...educational

I am so sorry to read you were born after the 80's. Bro, you really missed out on some good wrestling from the different territories

So ironically, one of the NWA's most celebrated stalwarts handed Vince the keys to American wrestling.

So, in a sense, Ole caused Black Saturday and fucked us all?

This is fascinating. I could listen to a whole show devoted to GCW at this time and the NWA convention of 1983.

One of those times watchin corny when my dog ears move toward the information emanating from my iPhone spkrs..still bugs me out that shot of Vince Introducing himself with the GCW logo behind him..more so than when shane walked down the aisle at Nitro once the purchase happened

Ole as clever as he was and as savvy and as shrewd as he was he really fkd up in the most magnificent of ways, his fault Barnett joined vince and then his hatred of vince made sure he never triumphed again

Amazing how one simple act can cause a cascade of situations to happen. Watts selling his share to Ole started a chain reaction that ultimately doomed downsouth wrestling & wrestling as a whole.

Jim Barnett was the cause of Black Saturday .Jim Barnett was always stealing from hard working wrestlers . Barnett was always shady. Barnett was thrown out of Australia for tax evasion , he was involved in pimping out football players . Buck Robley and other bookers quit because Jim Barnett was stealing . This is before Ole Anderson discovered Jim Barnett stealing .Jim Barnett wouldn't have left unless he was guilty . Ole Anderson was correct , Barnett was stealing from the wrestlers .

The big things with Georgia in 1983 include the Road Warriors are there, the Battle of Atlanta (Rich/Sawyer) and the tag team tournament against Starrcade 1983 which was in the Crocketts.

A good read on ol’ Jimsy is in a book by Shannon Ragland, called the thin 30. Fascinating book about Rock Hudson and sex romps with the football players. Him was an amazing character.

While I would never say this to his face, Ole has a real Chaz Bono thing going on.

I want to have respect for Ole Anderson, but the more I learn about him, the less I like him. There are some things that he did well, and some ideas that were good. But for the most part he was, and still is a very mean and vindictive person. All he cared about was the money. I'm very old school, but even his ideology on some things was out of date for me. He was very greedy, and he did a lot to hurt the wrestling business. Yes, some people did him wrong, but he also did a lot of people wrong as well. Both he and McMahon are guilty of doing great damage to professional wrestling.

Dharumanyo There is smart way to go about and a dumb way . Old cared about the money to where it blinded him.

Mario Trujillo I wasn't aware Vince took credit for killing the territories as opposed to fans saying he did so.

Vince takes credit for a lot of things. Some of which are true, and some are not. I truly wish we could go back to the old territory days, but that will never happen. Not like we want it to. As far as Ole Anderson goes. I've heard Jim Cornette and others, talk about the brotherhood in the locker room, and looking out for one another. Being one of "the boys", and respecting and protecting the business. Not just making money, but doing what you love. Ole got to the point where all he cared about was the money. Now I have heard some heart warming stories about Ole, and how there are guys in the business that he truly respects and cares about. But most of what I hear (and a lot from his own mouth) is just foul mouthed negativity towards so many people. Kinda makes it hard to respect someone like that.

Ole was also the one who said Undertaker would not draw money and no one would pay to see him wrestle. Big mistake!!! This is before Mark Calaway AKA the Undertaker became Undertaker. It was in WCW. Just think what they lost. And Mark is a loyal guy. But thankfully it did happen. Because we would not hsve the Undertaker. They might have gotten someone else to play Undertaker. I don't think the character would of made it if not for Mark Calaway.

Eh I wouldn't say he was a moron. He's brilliant with some things, idiotic on others. One brilliant move he made was to expand the georgia territory into ohio after sheiks territory died. As they were getting more fan mail from ohio than there were from within georgia itself.

Everybody romanticizes the territory days and I grew up watching wrestling in the late 70's early 80's but the further u get away from it the more u realize in wasn't that great. Alot of people in charge of their territories ran them like the mafia.
