I liked that CM Punk, and I only realized it after the fact, laid out exactly what happened to him in 2012-2013 when he was on the cover of the video game and the hottest thing in the company, and The Rock came back and big shotted his way into the main event at Wrestlemania. And now Punk is telling Cody, “I’m doing the same thing to you.” That was kind of a heel move. Punk is doing what he wants to do and saying what he wants to say and letting the crowds determine if he’s the good guy or bad guy. It’s kind of like Stone Cold in ‘97.

Punk: “I’m the real American Dream.” Cody: “Yeah, well, I’m the real CM Punk.” (glaring intensifies)

When Punk said he was more the American Dream than Cody, that was absolutely cold-blooded. He just set Cody up perfectly and then stuck the knife in.

Jim was 100% right. I was there Monday night, and they had us eating out of their palms.

The fact that these 2, who have so much history with AEW for different reasons, did this unmatched promo without mentioned AEW in any way is beautiful. They even mentioned OVW lol

Cody: "I'm going to finish my story." Punk: "I'm going to finish my story." Rock: "Ava is going to finish her story."

I was there live, and it was something I'll never forget. Just an historic and electric promo segment.

This was an absolute masterclass between two stars. Best promo I’ve seen in a while and a definite all timer for sure.

Tony deserves booker of the year because without his incompetence , Wrestlemania this year wouldn't have been this intriguing. Two of his biggest signings being the lynchpins of this year's road to WrestleMania is absolutely funny in hindsight.

I remember people began joking about this not long after Brawl Out. To see it come to pass is astonishing. For it to exceed expectations is amazing.

This promo will probably always be remembered as the promo that finished AEW.

If Tony Khan is smart he can counter this promo with his own charisma magnets; Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta. When those 2 talk, people listen; usually as they’re leaving the arena.

“I’m more of the American dream than you” that single sentence is far more captivating than any high spot I’ve seen. Aew and their fans in general don’t understand the notion of less is more.

AEW diehards were crying in their mom's basements during this knowing their cult leader Tony Khan could've had THIS in their company instead of watching The Young Bucks doing victory laps in an empty arena.

HHH: wanna see me do a better Hangman vs Punk segment? HHH: wanna see me do it again?

Cody in a shoot said he was glad to have Punk there if he could do business. It doesn’t surprise me that they’re working together. They’re both professionals. They’ll have a great feud and do good business.

My issue with guys like AJ and Orton, as good as they are, only ever say "I'm going to beat you" but Cody, Punk and even LA Knight with his jokes, go deeper and get more over because of it

That segment was AMAZING. Two stories, one goal. They made it REAL! AS A FAN, that's all I want! Give me something that I can BELIEVE. I've watched it about 10x. Can't wait to see how THIS concludes!

I actually really like that Aew just isn't getting named or hinted a lot. Just focusing on the own product, i hope tony learns from that (i know he won't).

If this was Punk from a decade ago I'd say this is the beginning of this eras Rock vs Austin because it was that good. This is what we all grew up on and what a surprise by 2 true wrestling lifers

Man the fact tony missed the boat with these two guys is crazy! This was a really good segment and it was just simple easy to follow storytelling but it got you interested in watching the match on Saturday to see what happens just from this one interaction and it didnt need 10 different guys coming out and doing there stick just two pros having a conversation that gradually got more and more heated without having a huge pull apart because it wasnt needed (ofc vince russo said afterwards punk should of sucker punched cody) because that guy is fonze the way he jumps sharks

I like that they weren't pulled apart. They made the choice to control themselves treat the upcoming match like business. They can make it personal during the actual match for a bigger pop.

As someone that doesn’t cope well with death, the face Cody makes anytime Dusty is brought up always gets me.

Love to see how they will eventually top this. Absolute masterclass, best promo since punk mjf, which is saying ALOT. Did anyone notice how cold and still punk was when they were face to face? This vlog series of Punk hanging out, talking with people backstage (including the Miz) and having the NXT roster gather around him has been great. WWE has really made a point of saying, "this guy's presence is a big deal to all of us and he should feel important to you too."

I don't watch a whole lot of modern pro wrestling but this promo popped up on my feed on facebook and I checked it out. It was a pretty good promo. It was nice to see something not super scripted for once. It was basically 2 people talking to each other but nothing was really overly phony about it. I feel like that's rare nowadays and it's sad

Man Tony Khan should win booker of the year for what he’s done for WWE.

It’s glorious hearing JC being so perplexed at the very start. What gets missed is that JC and Brian were fully behind AEW at the start. They knew it was going to be a ‘work in progress’ but accepted that. So they literally only have themselves to blame with the predicament they’re in.

This was so good. Both of them had the world’s attention. Hopefully Tony and AEW sees what they lost. And it’s nobody’s fault but their own. The two biggest stars that Tony let slip away! This was the final nail in AEWs coffin. The complete burial of AEW will come at Wrestlemania when Punk and Cody Headlines night 1 and night 2 of Wrestlemania. I would love to hear and see the response of Tony Kahn.

This was an absolute work of art! Had me glued from start to finish. Tony letting Punk and Cody slip through his fingers is like if the Lakers traded Shaq and Kobe for 2 junior high school players who can't shoot/pass/defend and refuse to listen to Phil Jackson.

I've returned to this 3 times just for the fact that Cornette is actually pleased by something happening on modern wrestling. They say "Hell froze over when Punk came back to WWE", but this is pretty close too!

This was literally a masterclass on how to do a promo from probably two of the best modern era superstars. Every young wrestler MUST watch this segment if they want to get better at this shit. It was fantastic. So great actually that it made The Rock's promo some weeks ago sound like crap. I'm so glad of the attention it got because it means more of this is incoming and wrestling is getting healthier than ever.

Cody Rhodes said he is more CM Punk than Phil himself and is now getting the Punk treatment with him possibly not main eventing WM 40.

This was so good. Loved it. I'm enjoying everything with both of these involved & I want both to win the Rumble 😂 but only one can win!

This year Royal rumble feels Royal Rumble 2001 (The Best Royal Rumble for me). The 2001 Royal Rumble had stars in the rumble that anyone could have won the match. This you have Punk, Cody, Drew, Gunther, Brock (not anymore), Bobby Lashley, Damian, Shinsuake Solo, Sami.

This was intense like the Rock/Austin 2001 build. Beautiful work.
