Coached girls softball while my daughter played. As a retired Marine, and also VP of the league, and only man on the board,,,, I HATE the everyone gets a trophy plan, and so did my daughter. We went 19-0 one season, won the championship and eventually won the State Title, went to the Dixie Youth World Series, and at the end of season awards ceremony, ALL the kids got the same trophy, our team wasn’t acknowledged for what “My Girls “ accomplished, nor they won the state title, because, it would have “made the other girls feel bad!” My teams parents were great, and it pissed them off too. They understood that I coached to win, never got a complaint from my parents, but OTHER teams players and parents said I was too tough on my players, that’s why we always won. One of the mothers of my girl, said, “YEAH, no shit, we want to win!”

Whenever I play video games with my sons we play tournament fighter games. I make a point to always kick their asses every time I play so they know what it’s like to lose, and lose hard! It works great because when they were really really young I’d let them win and that wasn’t good because when they would lose they would start to cry and stuff. So I HAD to start beating them all the time and when I’d win or they would win we would congratulate each other so they became good at losing and learned good sportsmanship. Now that their teens I have to play hard if I wanna win!

I've had it with these parents. I work at a CVS part time in Ridgefield, Ct, and as late as 10:30, you'll see hoards of 13 year olds just hanging out. They let their kids do whatever they want. No control, or discipline, all they care about is having their, "me" time. Makes me sick.

I definitely agree if your on a team that loses, let them be the team that lost!!! Why give them certificates for attending???? We didn't win any wars because we "attended" we kicked their asses and won!!!! We didn't get any certificate!!!!! Why change that now??? Teach the kids how to compete and win and if you lose learn how to deal with it and that makes you want to work harder next time.

I also want to add that i got a participation trophy in basketball for not winning a single game and its probably one of the biggest dissapointments in my life that people actually give these out, along with a participation certificate for a web design comp. their horrible things to give out, and it makes me feel retarted to even have them (well i ripped up the certificate) but yea.

We all notice this crap too, we just don't speak up.
