People always put Kobe down when it came to his feud with Shaq, now the true comes to light. A bit too late in my opinion, Kobe deserved better.

Shaq had a much more engaging personality as the "Fun, lovable big guy" publically so he was able to control the narrative for many years. Kobe was somewhat like Kyrie but because this was before the social media era he wasn't able to get his point across over the noise so he just withdrew himself internally and focused on his craft. As fucked up as this sounds it would not surprise me if Shaq is jealous of Kobe dying first because now his legacy and myth will forever be above Shaq.

Kobe was right in one of his last interviews about shaq when he said the lakers could have won more if shaq wasn't so lazy, after the first championship shaq became somewhat relaxed vs kobe who seemed always hungry for more, that's what you have to love about him if your a basketball fan, players like that don't come around that often, overall the lakers made the right choice in trading shaq for a lot of reasons, I just hated the fact most laker fans blamed him for it, at the end of the day if shaq was the leader he should have lead by example and been a better teammate to kobe.
@jhinchoe197
@jhinchoe197 2 года назад
i think you are 100 percent right. Think about it, Kobe said that Shaq could of been the greatest of all time if he wasn't lazy. He never worked on his free throw and he was getting slower with the years. Shaq won with heat because he went to the east and didnt have to face the west in the playoff imo. I always thought, if shaq could work on his speed and free throws, he would of won 3 more in lakers and people would be saying he was better than michael.

No doubt, imagine if Shaq had the work ethic and drive like MJ or Kobe, he would have been even more dominant than Wilt and challenged Kareem to be the best center of all time. The problem is, it's hard to have two alphas on one team. If you consider to greatest 10-15 players of all time, Shaq and Kobe were probably the only two that played together in their primes. It was just never going to be a long-lasting relationship.

Kobe is about I'm confident in myself of what i did to get there. He is gonna better his teammates by toughen them up mentally and physically to be ready for battle . Not by gathering all top players to play with him and then design them to cater to his skillset. Kobe never cheat on his fan by taking day off so his career can last longer unlike other current greats. When he came to play he came to play.

I’ve been a hard core Laker fan since the 80’s. I followed this feud in the media fanatically during the Shaq/Kobe era. I had always felt like it was Shaq’s over sensitive immature ego that was the reason the team was breaking up. I mean I agree, but I think both of them were at fault were the dynasty breaking up. Obviously, Shaq for his ego of not accepting that he would have to pass his #1 option title down to Kobe and for being out of shape. Kobe had his faults, but it's unfortuate at the time he was the scapegoat because he wasn't the outgoing personality Shaq was. But at the end of day, Kobe's evolution as a player and person was remarkable and it made his career extremely special.

It's funny how so many people are just now beginning to see the real Shaq. He knew what he had in Kobe, but didn't want to share the throne. Kobe and Shaq were both alphas but the difference was that Shaq was also very outgoing and more of an extrovert. Kobe was the complete opposite. He was very much to himself and a natural introvert. So you can see how Shaq had the advantage. The stronger and larger than life personalities always over shadow the shy and quiet ones. And it's a double edged sword because it helps to sway public opinion towards the bigger personality. Shaq did a great job of being funny which helped people like him more than Kobe who was always viewed as more of a serious person which hurt his public image. God rest his soul though. #8 #24 forever

It's clear that shaq was an oversized entitled boy in a dominant center's body. Look at him on NBA on TNT...the guy thinks his opinion is always fact. As great of a player(still underachieved) that he was.. he was a manipulator,immature, bully & unaccountable. That was weak & corny 4 him 2 do His physical talents overshadowed alotta character flaws as a human being. When things got tough, if he couldn't bully himself out of a situation then he sulked & whined. Kobe needed a player like kevin garnett...two caring workaholics who pulled no punches. They might've not 3peated but they would've won 3 champions together in a 10 yr span & they could enjoy each other's company.

I won’t speak on what’s facts or fiction here bc neither one of us know Shaq. But Shaq and Kobe were two very very opposite people with two very opposite lives. It was destined to clash. Shaq is a frat boy, the “fun guy” of the group, and extremely extroverted. He needed to know his teammates were cool with him and liked him so his mind was at ease on the court. He’s big on camaraderie. Kobe was the opposite. He didn’t care who was friends or who was enemies as long as everybody went out and killed on the court and got a W. He was always an outcast from the time he was young to the time he was acquired by the lakers. They were a vet team, young but still lots of vets on their squad. But he’s a 17 year old phenom busting their asses and basically in position to take their jobs. So ofc they are naturally spiteful. Also remember, Shaq did 2 years in college so he was 24 when him and Kobe Teamed up. Naturally his own youth+ kobe being 7 years younger and being who he was, was a recipe for disaster. The only thing that would’ve made them closer friends was if Shaq worked harder in the gym bc that was the only way him and Kobe could relate. So it makes sense why when kobe is shaq’s same age of when they met (24.. ironic right?), he’s demanding more from his teammates bc he took all their shit for years and got 3 chips while doing it but it could’ve been 4 had guys taken it more seriously. Fast forward end of the year it’s come to a head and Shaq is gone.

Shaq's lack of physical conditioning was going to hinder him no matter what. Shaq in his youth was as gifted genetically as LBJ but never took great care of himself and would come into camp out of shape every year. As he got older it started to take a toll on him. If Shaq had Kobe's work ethic they would have won 5 consecutive chips but I also wonder how long would Kobe have tolerated not being the man. Shaq wasn't weird, just more on the goofy side & didn't take sh*t serious like Kobe did. Just 2 very different personalities when it comes down to it.

@@roxxylala26 he literally said shaq would try to mentally fuck with kobe and Phil would do the same thing, Jim said kobe would enter the busses with headphones over his ears but not on bc he wanted to hear what shaq and his teammates were saying about him. That’s weird behavior IMO bc that’s what a bully would do on a school playground. And then he also threatened to kill kobe and he also tried to hit a 17 year old kobe who wasn’t even on the Lakers yet 😐 how is that normal behavior or just personality differences

Question is..will that full interview with Kobe ever see RU-vid? Just like the full interview of Tupac with Angie Martinez. Jim Gray is a class act tho...many reporters would've been salivating once that interview was over to get it released in the prime of the Lakers dynasty. Need more people of integrity and character
@manhualair7172
@manhualair7172 2 года назад
I think this might have been a written report since he wasn’t a tv “analyst” but a reporter who would write in blogs or newspapers about these stories. He didn’t really get the chance to actually video interviews until later on in his career I think but im not positive.

To put it plainly if Shaq had stayed in shape and Kobe had passed the ball, they'd have eight rings. To put it in more detail theKobe-Shaq story is one of the greatest sports stories of all time. Being huge fans of both of them I always try to see things from both sides. Phil and Shaq got along great which probably made Kobe who was not good at interpersonal relationships feel isolated and he only further isolated himself with his selfish style of play. Shaq talked a lot of shit, no question about it. So did Phil and i don't think Shaq or Kobe had the maturity to deal with it all. Shaq, who's personality endears him to everyone, is always sure of winning a popularity contest and was not about to back down. Phil and he were of the understanding that it was his team. There is no question that he should've stayed in shape, but it's also clear that when Kobe stopped passing the ball, things started falling apart. Phil and Kobe were frosty because Kobe wanted to do things his way. The media perception came down way too hard on Kobe after Shaq got traded because truth be told Jerry Buss was to blame for that. But in hindsight one can see why. Think of the Lakers after Shaq was gone before Pau. They were trash so obviously Kobe still had some growing as a leader. I mean he had no pieces to work with but still he was not known as a great motivator. I think they both could've done things differently handled it better. I always thought Kobe was wrong for that article because it certainly wasn't going to make things better. I thought the Big Fella was very petty at times. But I understand both if you're The Man, you're going to fight for your territory if you're trying to be the Man, its the same thing.
