Jim Hopper || Do you ever feel cursed? 

when you mentioned you were working on this vid, i was so excited because Hopper, and in particular, his relationship with Eleven, was one of my favorite aspects of the new season. and i have to say, it's an absolute pleasure to finally see this video come to fruition. it feels almost redundant to praise your technical skills at this point, as this is obviously executed with great finesse, from the sound editing to the parallels and chosen voice overs. there's an auteuristic quality to your editing that makes you so identifiable, and clearly indicates that you should be working in the industry. it's always a pleasure to watch your videos. but what is demonstrated here, beyond the technical prowess, is a great love for this character. and a clear vision for telling his story. this video, it could've easily been a mess, probably should've been, with how much you were able to pack into it. but it was singularly grounded by this idea that Hopper has - this "black hole" concept; in which he, himself, exists as this singular unit in which everything, or everyone, is pulled towards, but ultimately is destroyed by. i absolutely loved that you recontextualized certain scenes to support this idea, like the way you used the "here" parallels around 2:05, and the way you kept returning to the digging scene. i loved that you showed a lot of the smaller moments where Hopper tries to control situations in order to protect others (around 3:08 - 3:15) - moments that may be overlooked by a less attentive eye. all of this, of course, leading up to the collapsing of his efforts, the suffocation under that pressure of having to protect everyone around him and the ramifications that ensue as a result. the way you paralleled the fighting scenes with Hopper being /literally/ suffocated by the black hole is probably my favorite part of this entire video and it's such an insightful editing choice on your part. and i loved the way you ended it too - how you subvert this chaotic and consuming notion Hopper has of himself and show, instead, how he is ultimately an anchor for those around him, a source of stability. and of course, the suggestion that things will get better for all of them, including Hopper. as i comment on this video, there's a dozen others in my "to comment" playlist i've yet to, including your will/mike vid, but i couldn't help myself with this one. i'm just so impressed by what you've created here and the talent you've demonstrated - from both a technical and narrative standpoint. i have yet to see another Hopper vid, but i doubt there will be one that tops this, for me. i hope you're proud of what you've created here because it's truly an astounding artistic accomplishment.

That scene where Mike is screaming at Hopper and just punching him and punching him until the punches slowly stop and he just starts crying and actually goes to hug Hopper makes me cry everytime. It's clear that Mike is upset that Hopper hid Eleven from him but also so grateful that he kept her safe and alive.

This is so so beautiful and poignant. I love how powerful your editing and storytelling is - especially for a character like Hopper who we often see as comedic, there is a real pain and vulnerability underneath and you brought this to light so beautifully and delicately here. You are so talented.

ok wow The start where you have all those shots of him so lost and broken and how he's holding on to his daughters hair tie in all those shots, as if to draw strength/comfort from her god Your use of sfx (especially the dirt hitting the ground) are so effective, you just know when and what to use to just elevate your videos even further than they already are OK but that voiceover of him talking about black holes obviously referring to himself and thinking how he's the black hole in everyone's lives as, to him, it feels like he destroys everything around him (when we know this is not the case) and how you edited that section with all the destruction and anger people direct towards him. He tries so hard to try and protect people but for one reason or another, it seems to not work but he. never. stops. trying. And that's what draws people to him, even if he doesn't see it. The way you build up the intensity and the emotions (that Mike and Hopper confrontation scene is probably one of my favourites from the show) with the music and then bring it down with that "you're ok" and show all those moments where he is the source of comfort he always strives to be to the people around him. This is once again, just an absolutely outstanding perfect video from you, I always get so excited to see a vid from you in my sub box, knowing it is just going to be pure and utter perfection and this is just proof of that!

hopper and Joel from the last of us are so alike. They both lose daughters called Sarah , they’re both angsty guys at first who then later on change because of a little girl who they ‘adopt’. I love this so much.

I love how you use every piece of dialog, gesture, facial expression builds up the feel from the song and all the emotions from the characters.
