I'm 58 and lifetime yankees fan ..i hated when we had to face Jim Rice with the game on the line ...one of the greatest players i have ever seen ..in my lifetime i have been privileged to have watched so many hall of famers ...jimmy was a good one ...i seen him swing a golf club once ...it felt surreal
at least a hundred 50 singles off the green monster in his career that would have been out of any other one of the most feared hitters for 12 years hit for power and average and was underrated fielder you should and had a cannon for an arm great ballplayer very strong great presence on the field my favorite all-time player Jim rice he was awesome
Agreed bro,my fav player as a youngster in the late 70's and most of the 80's and had he played at say,Yankee Stadium he would have had more homers, but the man could flat out hit,if he didn't try and stick it out last two or three seasons he would have finished with a .300 career avg,but he was a rare combo in that era, capable of 40 plus homers,200 hits and well over a .300 avg,oh and also 130 plus RBI's,he was arguably at one time the most feared hitter in the game and a very solid left fielder with a strong arm who played the monster as well as any of them!!
Jim Rice was my favorite player growing up. he could do everything such a natural. If it wasn't for the Green Monster he'd have 500 homers, I mean this first homer shown would've been a single in Fenway.
Yea but his eyes started going and he was getting hit with injuries, but ur right man had he even been able to keep up half the pace of his late 70's run he'd have definately hit 500 homers, but he could hit for avg too, that 77-79 stretch was up there with the best of em,way up there, cuz this dude was not only smashing the ball but he was also hitting over .300,driving in 130 plus but also collecting the rare 200 hits, for a power hitter that's pretty unique,my fav player growing up,man I had a feeling I was witnessing his last great season in 1986 and I was right!!
The only Sox player I have any admiration and respect for, every bit as feared a hitter as Brett, Schmidt, Jackson or anyone else at the time. Media hated him because he treated them like shit as they deserved so he paid for it in HOF voting. Barry treated them same way rightfully so.
