I don't know what people are talking about when they say the audio isn't great; I love the vintage sound of the song. If it was completely crisp, it wouldn't sound right to me.
Christian Booker agree Christian,,, this is how i remember music as a kid untill cassettes came out ,, even though 8 tracks were cleaner,,, but for Jimi this is like the 70's for me,,, I'm 57 so the record player/phonograph were the 1st sounds i remember,,, Motown,,sesame street,,, Jackson 5,,, Muddy Waters,,, Jimi,, Yes,, Rare Earth,,Bloodrock live,,,Bob Seager ( Old Time Rock and Roll,, i wore that 45 out) just to name a few i remember,,, but that was the SHIT !!!! AND IT SOUNDED GREAT THEN AND STILL DOES,,, LIKE A ROLLING STONE AND BLOWING IN THE WIND,, I CAN FEEL IT NOW,,,, THINKS FOR BRINGING BACK THOSE VIBES BRO !!!!
Ditto n🌜 NEVER ANOTHER JIMMY ALLEN HENDRIX EITHER!!⚡ THE BEST MUSICIAN IN THE WORLD!!💜💜💜🦋🦋🦋♾🎨🌛🌈🎭🌬..I walked down the aisle at my wedding to Little Wing!!
Nobody ever talks about Robert Petway. Johnson always gets the mystery, enigma, riddle stuff, but RP is even more of a mystery. And this is his song. It's got to be up there with Johnson's 32-20 blues as an early rock and roll classic, no?
When I hear a Hendrix classic like this, it makes me very sad to think that Jimi left us so soon. Hendrix would have undoubtedly gone on to make more great, groundbreaking music. It was such great promise not lived. At least we can treasure the truly great music he did make like this live performance.
Jimi had so much potential! Listen to machine gun live at the Fillmore east. Played the same year he died and I am willing to argue that’s it’s his best song and arguably one of the best rock songs ever given the context
@@Brucev7 We have all chosen a life of sin at one time or another. Jimi just didn't have a chance to change course. Listen to the man who sings this song. The song's lyrics are from his experience as an inmate in San Quentin State Prison: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u6evsqCwwzc.html. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
@@audiophileman7047 He made it so he only chose the Fast(Death) Life. No one gets a second chance.(Not talking about repentance and redemption in Christ(too late). If you're attempting to accuse me of stoning, I don't have any stones in my hands. I will watch the video you replied with. BTW I am a volunteer in Prison Ministry.
0:03-0:10 those 2 bars are at the same tempo , however when 3rd 0:10 bar starts we can hear that Jimi slow the rhythm - its give so much power and motion to the song!!!great blues!!!
Okay, so after an intro verse or two, he cuts loose on guitar. I like it. It's exciting. So are many of the rock bands w/ guitarists who "shred" thru their solos. This liberation started w/ (black men) electric Chicago blues in the 1950s -- this was BEFORE the Rock guys started freakin' in the 1960s. You can hear it in Magic Sam, Buddy Guy (w/Junior Wells), Otis Rush & Luther Allison as they continued inton the 60s and 70s. But all this is a departure from the old-time schools of Blues.
Yes, of course he and other Down Home bluesmen moved North after WW2 and switched to electric guitar. I mentioned the Magic Sam/Buddy Guy/ Otis Rush/Luther Allison constellation as they came up w a slashing, shredding approach to guitar soloing in the blues in the 50s that antedated Hendrix and all the white rock stars English & American in the 60s
I see 49?? Thumbs down were these people suffering with congenital amusia..this song is both calm and tnt fused together..mitch mitchell was an outstanding drummer you can almost taste the ideas that are comming out of his mind
Trivia-'Track four on Jimi Hendrix: Blues, recorded 1966-70, and released in 1994, “Catfish Blues” is believed have been written originally by Delta Blues musician Robert Petway (C. 1941). The song’s rhythm, melody, and lyrical theme were popularized by Muddy Waters in his rendition, which was titled “Rollin' Stone,” changing some of the verses. Waters is often credited for the song, and has experienced a great deal more fame and credit as a blues singer, songwriter, and guitar player than the lesser known Petway. The version found on the Jimi Hendrix compilation Blues is a live recording from 1967 in which Hendrix opens the song with Waters’s altered verse.' genius.com/Jimi-hendrix-catfish-blues-lyrics
@Tammy: I get it, but it's really not that early. If you're not familiar with them, there are a huge number of African American blues artists that influenced Jimi. Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, BB King, Lightnin' Hopkins, John Lee Hooker are just the tip of the iceberg. If you got the blues vibe deep in you, I recommend checking out these truly early bluesmen. If you want to hear something that's more today, checkout Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa, together or as solo artists for a continuation of the great blues tradition.
Mitch mitchell was and still is light years ahead of his time speed power dexterity touch feel tenacity i firmlly believe they brough out the best in.each others constantly going up.levels together
I can see why he thought Rory Gallagher was the greatest guitarist in the world. Here Jimi is doing a song by Taste Rory Gallagher 1st band. I guess they crossed paths. Taste and Jimi Hendrix Experience played the Isle of Wight.
He appreciated all kinds of music but never liked playing the same thing, so if anything he would've strayed from blues-rock to other genres including, but not limited to, hip-hop and funk.
Am I the only one who holds the theory that guitar distortion originates from poor musicians using cheap, old, underpowered amps in the streets, competing for donations from tourists and passer-bys. I imagine they turned them up as loud as humanly possible to get attention and over time they blew out, but they had no choice but to keep playing them to put food on the table. Then some british bloke musicians visiting Memphis said, wow that sounds great! And with that they started modding their amps to get the same sound and the rest is history. I have never heard that theory, but it just seems so obvious to me.
I've been making plans with my mojo man watch us spin twirl and move catch a groove and fly free come stand next to me the test of time has arrived I stand tall and survive underneath americas sky's forever
