There is an endless debate about his skill as a guitar player including comparisons with others, but people often forget he was also a great songwriter. His endless "jamming" which he loved to do so much on tour, overshadowed the fact that he also wrote and performed excellent melodic songs, such as this one here.

A fairly rare slide track as well! A real guitar symphony. His progress in the 3years he recorded was literally off the charts.He took the instrument to a place it had not been before.

You can tell Eddie Kramer is STILL very much blown away by Jimi's music...after 50 years of extensive, and intensive, working and re-working. Watching him as Jimi's music plays reminds me alot of Salieri's ecstatic reading of Mozart's sheet music in "Amadeus"...you can see his eyes roll into the back of his head!

I often wonder if he was still alive, how he would perform his new songs (first rays of the new rising sun album) and which one he would have picked and how these live performances would turn out. Maybe he would have expanded his band, but who would play all these other guitar parts? And maybe he would have changed his live rig set up. He didn't needed that much volume anymore for his new songs. Damn wish he was here so he could have continued. He's next album was like a rebirth...
@Worldwideguy96

Yes! and that would be a sweet change to his trio format. I really love his set up though with the loud Marshalls and everything. But For sure his new songs didn't need all that equipment.

That was so amazing to hear. One of my favorite tunes because of the dueling guitars and the feel of the song itself. I have always maintained that if you let your mind go and carefully listen to the lyrics and the rhythm it has a slight country flavor with Jimi's signature soulful funky blues based riffs thrown in of course! Example the slide guitar in the opening of the song I love it when Eddie Kramer isolates the tracks. The track with his Strat with (DI) direct input sounds so sweet!

One of the greatest multilayered guitar tracks ever made. Innovative in its time. It was nearly 10 years later and Uli Jon Roth-a big Hendrix fan-did Burning Wheels Turning. Without Jimi he never would've had the idea and he delivered brilliantly. But Jimi was the fountainhead of so much; guitarwise and otherwise.

If Jimi's music shared in this one wonderful sample were to be improved on by Jimi, well if he would have been allowed to stay here until now, heck we all would have taken-off-and flew, before finding out we can fly and create anything we desire. Throughout human history, a handful of musicians were so legendary as to become mythological. Mesopotamia circa 1800 b.c. had Dumuzi. China during the Zhou Dynasty circa 1100 b.c. had Ling Lun. Judah, circa 900 b.c. had King David. Greece, circa 300 b.c. had Aristoxenus of Tarentum. 9th century Persia had Abu Hasan Ali Ibn Nafi al Ziryab. 16th century India had Pandit Mian Tansen. Early 19th century Europe had Ludwig Van Beethoven and Nicollo Paganini. We have Jimi Hendrix.

People like this don’t even qualify as musicians at that point. They are conduits from a higher (or at least different) dimension or power or something... Devin Townsend is cut from the same cloth. Was just reading that this tune was written by Jimi for the great New York Rock disk jockey Alison Steele. On her late night WNEW FM radio program, she was the "Nightbird". I'm glad to be able to say I spent many magical teenage late nights listening to her. Her and Scott Muni, also at WNEW back when, are the two most memorable disk jockeys of my life. I can still recall mid 70s late one summer night, hot as hell, me stoned, laying in the dark hearing Gary Wrights tune "Dream Weaver" queued up by Alison. Her voice was sultry and mesmerizing, her commentary always kindness and thought provoking. Alison's program was a welcoming refuge, relevant to the music, appropriate for the times and the insomniac late night audience she drew. The music she played amazing. Alison Steele, the Nightbird flying, never to be forgotten by many growing up in the NYC area during that time.
