Can we take a moment to acknowledge that Martin Short (the guy playing Jiminy Glick) is 74 years old in this video?! My God. I pray to the universe that I can be as funny, sharp-witted, and active at that age.
No matter how wrong you think COVID was handled, no one was more wrong than people that thought it was a hoax or no big deal or who believed it was “totally under control” (as Trump put it as it was spreading like wildfire early on). 1.2 million dead Americans! Thankfully, just enough people got vaccinated and/or took precautions, which kept hospitals from getting critically overwhelmed. That was always THE most important thing. I was diagnosed with leukemia during the third big COVID surge, and the leukemia ward was filled with COVID patients. Beds weren’t available. I had to stay in the emergency room until some unvacc’d idiot became non-critical or died before something opened up. The Emergency room was over-capacity. The poor staff had people rolling in with COVID to deal with on top of their usual load of emergencies. The halls were filled with patients. It was insane.

I never enjoyed it growing up but now that I’m in my 40’s I find it hilarious. I’ve always loved Martin Short but my admiration has skyrocketed over the years!
I've loved everything Martin Short does. I love his Ed Grimley character whose idol is Pat Sajak. And the swim ballet he does with nose plugs. What a joyous man! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

I met Martin Short a few months ago. I told him I loved him so much in the 80s when I was a kid I named my cat after him. Then I froze up and forgot to say I LOVE JIMINY GLICK! Saying it now. ❤
I was crying too, it's been a minute since I laughed so much. I suspect they had a quick rehearsal but Bill didn't see everything coming at him. That's the best compliment, getting a comedian to laugh.
Martin Short may be the most underrated comedian of all time! He’s talent personified! So quick, so smart, so genuinely funny to the core! Best bit on Real Time in a long long time.
The big problem has always been that nobody knew what to do with him. Because there's nobody else like him. He unconventional looking; he's not a stand-up; and he's not a movie star. He's not an everyman or a guy who would play a good sitcom character unless he is annoyingly over the top. Yet he can create sketch comedy characters and can sing. Only Murders In The Building is the first vehicle I have seen that was able to utilize Martin Short's comic talents without being ridiculous or untruthful. And Jiminy Glick.

Short as Glick can run circles around absolute titans of comedy. The fact that he can reduce them to helpless giggles and tears is all you need to realize that Short is the best of the best. What a treat seeing Glick out of retirement.

@@sammyprice9448 Glick has the attention span of a common 4 year old looking to stuff another candy or donut in his mouth (which has been part of his act), so he has no time or patience for Maher's ever so brief reflection into the past or remote motivations that poor Bill was ruminating on to express. He regurgitated that one from his episode with Larry David. The falling asleep bit was from the one with Jerry Seinfeld and a dozen others. A lot of the jokes were scripted and already used before.
This was the most hilarious version of Martin Short's Jiminy Glick I've ever seen. Love seeing how much Bill Maher was in tears laughing. I can't help but look up to these guys. Still, I would have loved it if Jiminy asked Bill about the way he reacts if his audience doesn't laugh enough at his jokes or goes, '"ooooooooh." As though that's a knock on his comedy. It really was a joy to watch this. Sending love from all the Atheists around the world.
In all the decades I've watched Maher, I've never seen him lose it so completely as here. This is one of those clips people will still be watching 50 years from now.
Somehow I had never seen Jiminy Glick. It took me a minute to realize it was Martin Short, as my mind limited the list to what had to be one of the funniest peoplw in the world. His eyes gave it away.
Jiminy Glick is one of the funniest characters ever created. Martin Short is brilliant. His ability to get every guest he interviews to fall apart is a talent few comedians have.
I agree. I was laughing at one point because of how happy bill was. It was a nice change from the crancky person hes become. It was also a master class for young people how not to be offended and still have a great time.
That was the best Jiminy Glick routine that I have ever seen. Martin Short is a treasure. And kudos to Bill for subjecting himself to it. You gotta love a guy who's not afraid of the dunk tank.
Typically, I only listen to the Bill Maher podcast. However, after hearing this interview and laughing out loud, I felt compelled to find it online and watch it as well. Martin Short visited our comedy writing class at Second City once, but I was unfamiliar with this character. Now, I’m planning to look up all the old interviews. Hilarious!

Watching Bill laugh like a child was SO much fun! After having watched Martin’s interview on Club Random, you can tell how much Bill likes and respects him. Such smart and quick humor that keeps even Bill on his toes. Bravo!
