It's virtually all improv... Marty Short has some talking points written down, as he always does, but then they just wing it. Steve and Marty also know each other quite well.
@@DaveJOHAZ Ah, yes, the lesser known Third Amigo, who solved crimes, protected the President, and foiled the plans of megalomaniacal villains in the Wild, Wild West!
I think I’ve watched every Glick interview by now, and this extended cut, that last minute or so when Marty asks Steve if his instinct to “almost go there” is what kept him from the “big bucks” was priceless - then they both break character and laugh so hysterically - just made me laugh harder and louder than any Glick moment so far - Pure gold. Great chemistry. Love these two!
I think they usually edit it out. There are sometimes I think he breaks when the camera is not on him but we can hear him laugh. And I think he covers up real laughs with Jiminy's laugh or other vocal mannerisms.
I saw Martin Short perform in New York years ago. He’s hilarious. Kim kardashian was just becoming famous. He was providing the entertainment for a Broadway fundraiser for underprivileged youth that were artistically gifted. It was a pretty reserved crowd, kind of a tough crowd in the beginning. Out of nowhere he spouted out “Some people are born great while others have greatness THRUSTED inside of them....but enough about Kim Kardashian. “ I almost spit out my wine because I was laughing so hard 🤣😂🤣
the way Martin asks "are we running out of time?" like a hopeful little kid, his face looking like he's about to be sprung from detention for Summer Vacation is great. 0:50
Just a few hours ago 8/26/23 I was watching a video about Vegas that said Steve Martin And Martin Short would be appearing together to do a show in the next month or so. I didn't realize either of them were still performing. That would be cool to see.
So this is where the idea for "Between Two Ferns" came from. I'm not complaining at all, though, because this type of comedy is hilarious and I'm glad that somebody is still carrying the torch.
It wasn’t until 5 mins later after watching, did I realize how super clever/layered was Steve’s retort of “ask me again was”. I was to busy enjoying them both completely losing it.
0:45 - "There's so much more I want to talk to you about, but you know, I am on this United Flight and I just want to fly down and stretch out" - - I literally have a United Flight tonight and I get anxious flying and for whatever reason this quote always calms me down before a flight.
Brilliant. Check out how Steve Martin referring to the oversized glasses mentioned not one, but two "Cary's" who wore the big glasses but omits the most iconic and obvious, Harry Carary. I'm hoping this was all part of the joke and it's not just me appreciating an overlooked moment.
I looked up a foto of Carrie Donovan, NYT fashion editor, and Steve is spot on! The oversized black glasses are the same and the older Carrie had hair like Jiminy’s. So yes, somewhat obscure reference for many of us but after seeing a photo of her, I’d be shocked if Marty didn’t base that look on her.
