"Yeah but I've seen it, you just produced it." There are SO many layers as to why that line is hilarious, especially for two men who are very familiar with Hollywood and show business. So freaking good.
@@patrickthomas8890My take on it is that producers underwrite a film and put their name on it, but are not necessarily intimately involved in making it. Spielberg might be more involved than some. Anyway, that's how I took it.
Painting Spielberg simultaneously as a hillbilly and a makeup diva with "You's gonna use that powder puff?" and "I thunk that was my eyeliner" is possibly the best Jiminy Glick bit of all time.
oddly enough, it's funny because there's a glimpse of truth in the joke: many producers only see a cut of the actual movie or some scenes the director wants to show them. That wasn't the case with Spielberg of course, but it happens more than we think.
Spielberg keeping a straight face and continuing with his story...as Short slides out of his chair an back into it...is perhaps the funniest thing I've ever seen. Martin Short is a genius. And I had no idea Spielberg would be able to perform that well.
@@dannyvalencia5224 I don't know any context of their work relationship but the idea of a magic whistle that only one actor can hear and just comes whenever you call them, is just funny itself. I laughed so hard.
That Spielberg understood his role & kept talking earnestly about his craft (keeping good pace) when Flick took off for the food table, is wonderful! This interview alone shows that Spielberg "gets it". No wonder he's so successful 💝
I suspect Spielberg was allowed to ramble like that so Martin could do the shots of him sneaking off to eat later and then edit them into Spielberg's interminable story.
Glick, "Unless you're specific no one can follow your story." LOL He's telling one of the world's greatest storytellers how to tell a story! Priceless.
I've mined RU-vid for every Jiminy Glick video ~ and this one is my favorite. Martin Short is on top of his game with the perfect balance of hilarious cerebral calisthenics and comic physical humor. Steven Spielberg is the *perfect* straight man.
You, some, um, verbose lady? Sweet. Yeah, Jiminy Glick is nigh resplendent. I too am long under his thrall. I'm like, finding all the videos and saving them today. Leaving long replies to comments from 6 years ago.
The funniest part was when Steven got into explaining his “secret” to his craft and preserving old movies, etc totally oblivious that jiminy slouched out of his chair and started eating some candy from the table 😂
@@barbraseville8984 nah dude it’s def “The Color Purple” or maybe “Artificial intelligence” his 2 top blockbusters. The only 2 that really packed the theaters.
2:44 low how Stephen just cracks from this point on. And I can see why. It's just a straight line of good jokes. "I've seen it, you just produced it", "you've made so many films - when are you gonna do the big one?", "when we were in make-up and you were getting your hands done", "your grammar is spotty"
2:53 "you've done so many films, when are you going to do the big one?" His face when he asks is incredible. "... something that clicks with the public."
5:00 "What you gonna do with that?" I laughed so hard, I had to lie down on the floor until it passed several minutes later. You saw a Martin moment, and it was my new favorite Jiminy moment.
This is probably my favourite Glick interview/celebrity massacre- but there are so many gems to choose from. Wish Jiminy was back on our screens, he would be great doing a Jerry Springer-style show.
Holy fuck that was hilarious. I still think Jiminy might be the funniest character of all time, I belly laugh no matter how many times I watch these interviews, even if I'm unhappy at the time and you can't say that about many things in life that's for sure....at least I can't.
Marty this is by far the best character you have have ever created , never have i been able to watch something over and over again and laugh my fkn head off each time ,i have been doing comedy all my life and i have seen some of the greats perform , how you stay in character is beyond me but one thing is for sure you are as good as it gets and pure M.A.P.L.E
Glick is King of the talk show genre. A classic interviewer, hard to believe he was preceded by Carson, Douglas, etc. But, every genius has his flaws. He has an eating disorder. Please, Glick, get help, we don't want to lose you to heart disorder.
What a genius! If this was a regular nightly talk show I would never miss an episode. Big stars being taken down a notch is hilarious. I love seeing them playing along.
Spielberg is great here. He's blushing from controlling his laughter, and yet he plays it straight. The final bit where Glick slinks out of his chair in boredom so he can stuff his face while Spielberg earnestly answers the question Glick has no interest in - what a funny piece of improv teamwork. Compare this with the interview with Jerry Seinfeld, who decided beforehand to insult Glick in order to avoid being made fun of. Like shooting fish in a barrel. Seinfeld could learn something about humility from Spielberg. It makes for better comedy.
+greasemonkey1228 You've got to bear in mind that Seinfeld is a professional comedian. He has a contribution to add and wants to do something more original. If he has a joke to make, why shouldn't he make it? It's a free country
Boy can you tell how universally appreciated Marty Short is by the who’s who of guests willing to be lambasted by this ridiculously wonderful character.
This needs to come back 😲 Oh my God. We need this more than ever! How do we make this happen?? I just had the idea, let's get this going! #BringbackJiminyGlick
