Joshua Mora Morton wrote it and he and King Oliver recorded the song together (Morton on piano and Oliver on cornet) and Morton recorded a piano solo on a 1939 record.

@@ericdreizen1463 Hi. I also met Si several times in Detroit(Auto Show) and Windsor(Across the border)Elmwood Casino, (1966-1967)He was very nice, and offered me a job with the band on trombone. I couldn't take it as I was at that time a musician in the RCAF(Canadian Forces) band.He was the most outstanding and exciting trombonist I ever heard in person before or since, and his band was great. I understand that he was a very hard taskmaster.

There are a few black couples among the dancers....I wonder what the reality was for black soldiers who went to The Hollywood Canteen? Did they feel welcomed, were there black woman for them to dance with? Anyone know?

The actual canteen was an integrated place though most of its guests preferred to socialize with their own race. This did not however apply to the volunteers
