"Jimmy was a fantastic player and I don't think he knew what he was going to do next during the match, so what chance did the opposition have?” (Tommy Gemmell about Jimmy Johnstone) Music: Sonny Rollins - Tenor Madness
Is that why it has awful jazz 'music' on it? Have to use something anyone should be embarrassed to claim copyright on? Great video with the sound off, though.
I had the great honour of playing in charity match on his team, n when I passed him the ball he said "great ball big man" still dining out on that today, v nice man n I was so lucky to meet him
Here checking out players from before my time from a list of '20 greatest all time Brit footballers'. I'm a Rangers fan, but like to see good play skills from anyone. And this guy certainly had that. Watching this it's a shame Cruyff gets the credit for the turn, when Jimmy did it all before. Amazing pace and skills, especially when you consider those heavy medicine balls they used to play with back then.
Great video, my friend, Jinky is Celtic's greatest ever player & as anyone can see, he was one of a kind. The footage from the Alfredo di Stefano testimonial against Real Madrid at the Bernabeau (after Celtic won the European Cup in 1967) shows just how unbelievable he was. What price today??? Genius.
The best Scottish player of all time IMO... amazing player... up there with Garrincha for best right winger in history at least from every player that I've seen enough footage of.
I'm a Rangers fan since I was a boy. Been following them for 75 years. Jinky was a great player. One of the best. All theopd timer Gers had great respect for him.
The greatest British player I ever saw. I became a fan when a wonderful Celtic side trounced my team Sunderland 5-0 in a testimonial for George Herd in 1965. I moved to Scotland in 1972 and was able to see the wee man strut his stuff every week. No matter the score, he was normally worth the admission money alone, and did you see some of the pitches on which he had the ball on a string?
nice post by barbosa futbol videos regarding jimmy johnstone of glasgow celtic !!!!!!!! the song to the video by sonny rollins-"TENOR MADNESS" blends in nicely with jimmy johnstone's DRIBBLING MADNESS SKILLS !!!!!!!!!!!
I used to watch Jinky at every home game at Parkhead, and he was awesome! If he’d been alive today he’d be playing for Barcelona and would be worth millions!
Despie missing out on the balon d'or, Johnstone is one of the greats of that era. He was as good as george best. His balance, timing, ball control, and agility was phenomenal.
@@timjanssens5746 hes not trippin , johnstone did it all before messi came along unfortunately their was not that much televised football so you only see 5% of johnstones career believe me he was pure magic .
You had three outstanding dribblers of the ball in the late 60's and early 70's; George Best, Jimmy Johnstone and Roger Magnusson ... and then you had Cruyff, Djajic and Piet Keizer ... I grew up loving the great dribblers of the ball ... as a swede Roger Magnusson is my all time favorite. He's an iconic player for the French club Olympique Marseille and he's the most mesmerizing dribbler of the ball I've ever seen live or tv ... Jimmy Johnstone is the true ADHD-dribberl with all his turns and twists ...
My uncle played for san jose when jimmy came out 1977 or close to that after game he would go out for beers with a bunch of scots mostly my family rangers supporters he would give all the kids quarters for the arcade just a memory look it up jimmy johnstone nasl san jose earthquakes
Had he been born Brazilian he would genuinely be regarded as one of the 10 greatest footballers of all time. But he was not, He was a Scotsman. Humble, unassuming and without ego. I've watched this man take people's souls. World class defenders. You could see it in them around the 60 minute mark. 'Enough. I've had enough Jinky. I give up'. They did not need to speak the words for you to hear it, you saw it with your own two eyes. A torturer of full backs like no other. He made the very, very best look stupid. As the game progressed they would look both tired and stupid. An artist, a mavericker though a demon. Relentless, persistent, continuous. Given the acclaim he deserves globally ? No. However, a fact remains a fact regardless of how few or many believe it. Jimmy "Jinky" Johnstone. One of the 10 greatest footballers to ever live.
One of the greatest. Why isn’t he more celebrated? He was just as good as best. That Celtic team were perhaps the best ever club team. Eleven players fae one country? Mental!
@@graemeadam6987 actually the whole Lisbon lion team were born within something mad like a 2 mile radius of Glasgow which does put more of a shine on it !
What amazing balance he had with his ability to use both feet his quick changes of direction rendered him almost unplayable. It's quite mesmerising watching him weave his spells. Scotland's lost ability to produce excellent footballers may have reached the pinnacle in Johnstone, who, were he playing today, would certainly be regarded as possibly the best ever. As it is, his brilliance still remains confined for the most part to Scotland, to some extent the UK, but sadly lacking in the wider world. Archie Gemmil became a cult hero because of one televisedgame, just think of the impact wee Jimmy would have had!
Wee Jimmy won everything you could at a football club with Celtic, playing at de stefano of real Madrid's testimonial and went off to a standing ovation from the real fans. Celtic also won that game.
Por esa forma de balancearse de un lado a otro y amagar como si tuviera cintura de goma se asemeja en la época actual a Alexis y Hazard en sus mejores momentos. Su control de balón para mantener la pelota pegada al pie, goooood
PLEASE don't insult the Lord of the wing by comparing two prima Donna under achieving wannabes in this context jinky played a DIFFEREBT SPORT to those two
Damn! I was marveling at revisiting Wee Jinky's skills, and enjoying the comments, until someone just had to post the dreaded RU-vid "underrated" nonsense. 😕
wanna hear my teamates Jimmy Johnstone story? Hes coming home on the double decker bus with his mates after Rangers get hammered by Celtic at Ibox, I think. Their at a traffic light and guess whos in the mini next to them? Yes. J.Js sitting there with the game ball between him and the stearing wheel. They all rush over to the side of the bus and simultaniously give him the one finger salult. J.J. looks up at them with a beautific smile and holds up three fingers. Hatrick!.
Jock Stein Celtic manager once banned Jinky from training because no one could get the ball off him, that’s how good the wee man was he would beat great defenders make them look stupid and go back and do it again .😂😂😂😂
He changed direction so quick and was very unpredictable which made him impossible to play against fairly.....god given talent....you can't train that I'm sorry
Creo que la mayoría venimos por Fiebre Maldini respeto su opinión pero yo comencé amar el fútbol desde que vi a Ronaldinho aunque ya era fan y mi ídolo sea Rivaldo

@@graemeadam6987 There was a lot of similarity between Johnstone and Garrincha including their problems with alcohol (Best too). All three of them were world class geniuses and worthy of great respect .
Even though Celtic not only beat the supposed best English team Leeds in the European Cup, Celtic never got their real credit when they won they were the first team in Britain to win the European Cup in 67 then get to the final in 70. Jimmy Johnstone is up there with the all time greata like Pele. He is levels above George Best who relayed on his speed. Johnson was the Messi of his generation
Jinky had george best agility but without his speed. Despite that, george best was a more complete player and more gifted overall. Jinky wasn't far behind tho.
