Ningún video puede hacer justicia a lo que significó Di Stéfano para el fútbol. Sólo viendo varios partidos completos puede uno apreciar parte de su enorme grandeza. Fue el primer jugador total, el primero en jugar asombrosamente bien en todas las posiciones, el futbolista que convirtió el fútbol en algo cinematográfico, dejando de ser fotográfico (cuando cada jugador no se movía de su demarcación). Era un 10 que se movía en toda cancha, casi siempre jugando a uno o dos toques, con una tremenda capacidad goleadora, de creación y arquitectura del juego (porque todo el juego del Madrid arrancaba en él) y que, además, ejercía una impresionante colaboración en el apartado defensivo. Los que critican y dicen que les parece un futbolista vulgar no entienden absolutamente nada de este juego, ni de su evolución. Alfredo...¡amigo querido! Lo que dice Puskas es exacto, fuiste el mejor. Para mí, el más completo de la historia. Verte aquí me dio placer. Corrias igual que Messi y tu entrenamiento eran unos saltitos y corridas. ¡Si te hubieras entrenado como Messi, con máquinas, bicicletas, fierros y mucho más! Y jugabas con pelota pesada, sin tarjetas, saltando patadas y haciendo esos goles de taco, de bajo o de alto, que nunca habían visto en Europa. Si, me lo dijo Joselito u otro, que llevaste el taco y el caño (allá le dicen túnel) a Europa, nadie los conocía. Saeta Rubia, con 793 partidos y 728 goles más o menos. Además, fuiste el más inteligente para armar un equipo desde atrás, desde tu arco, llegar al otro ¡y a veces hacer el gol! Te morfabas la cancha. O cuando descubrí a Pastoriza, un 5 de Colón, creo, que nadie nombraba. Lo compró Racing, después años en el Monaco, y luego Independiente y su gran historia como técnico. ¡Qué carrera tuvo este tipo! O cuando en la tapa de Clarín Deportes puse una gran foto de Doval que jugaba con los caraduras de San Lorenzo como 7 y fundamente que no era 7, como lo ponía Resquin, sino un 9 nato. Resquin me hizo caso, el pibe mejoró y luego fue estrella por años en Flamengo y Fluminense de Brasil. Como 9. Todo esto ni te lo dije. Te bastó una charla en el restaurante Di Maria para confiar en mí. Como toda la Europa que te vio y te dio el único Super Balón de la historia, como el mejor entre 1953, el año que llegaste, y 1979, ¡26 años! Lo vieron a Pelé, a Cruift, a Maradona y a otros. Salud hermano, nadie que te vio jugar (¡y no pude vere en Millonario de Colombia, donde me dijo Pedernera que la rompías!) te olvidará jamás. Como Fangio, mi otro amigo. Elegancia, siempre bien parado con la mirada arriba, un roble en los choques y en esa época como pegaban, siempre tenia a distancia al rival, sus remates de fuera del área ya eran medio gol solo de perfilarse, se ve que los porteros ya le tenían miedo, solo usaba la derecha pero que bien la escondía, hacia el fútbol simple, como debe de ser, de toque rápido y aclarando el campo, taconazos por doquier. Imposible compararlo, simplemente admirar a un gran jugador, un goleador, un hombre nacido para un campo de fútbol. Gracias por el compilado. Di Stéfano, La Saeta, I've never seen him as I was born in the seventies. But nevertheless, seeing the images on film, he had ultimate dribbling, passing, recovering and scoring skills. What made him apart was the fact that one moment he was defending, then assisting on the midfield and then scoring all the while running 1-100 meters in 10 seconds in the same minute. My grandfather was a Betis fan and he told me once me that he almost always sh*t his pants when Real Madrid came to visit a Betis Sevilla game against Di Stefano. That's why the second, smallest stadium of Real Madrid is called after him. He's a real Real Madrid legend in his own right. Normally a stadium in Spain which is built by a president in its time is called after him, but Florentino Pérez, in his usual elegance, he decided otherwise. God bless him and Alfredo.
