I'm a 56 year old Manchester City season ticket holder, growing up in the 70s, we didn't have the wide coverage of football like we do now, but I always remember seeing Jinky on the Saturday morning football programmes from the previous week. Celtic were the club I looked out for in Scotland because of him. An absolutely brilliant footballer who didn't get enough credit, he was as good as best, it's scandalous that he only got around 25 caps for Scotland. They don't make them like him any more, just imagine his value today? You couldn't put s price on him. Simply magnificent.
That was on rangers fan base why he didn't get much caps my dad grew up watching Celtic in 60 and 70s players like billy McNeil and Jinky refused to play for Scotland because most of Scotland fan base was rangers fans and majority of time Celtic players was booed and because of this they decided to ask the manager not to select them. Most of the Lisbon lions have small number of caps because of this reason.
@@paulhughmcguigan5584 mate if that's true then it's really sad. Players of that quality feeling they can't represent their country because of the bigotry of another clubs fans is terrible, I suppose the one man that would have been happy with that would have been Jock Stein.
@@paulhughmcguigan5584 my dad told me about the scotland fans booing Jimmy when he played for Scotland, I found that hard to believe but after actually looking into it, & asking folk who were actually there, turns out it's true.....that's fkin insane.....tbh the scotland fans deserve whatever they get after that, maybe they've had it ever since
I remember playing football with Jimmy in my granny's back garden in viewpark on my 5th birthday I had my Celtic kit on and we took some photos he was a good friend of my uncle mick , rest in peace Jimmy and uncle mick,
As a gers fan I'm so glad jimmy played before my time bcoz he was unstoppable and an amazing talent and character of the beautiful game and with the multi million pound game of today it makes me wonder just how much players like jinky and baxter would be worth.......... God bless

Un sábado hermoso de sol en la final contra Racing argentino por la copa intercontinental, lo mataron a patadas los argentinos, lo terminaron echando a él porque reaccionó ante una patada alevosa. Al otro día jugó el el equipo de extranjeros de la Mutual Uruguaya de futbolistas formando la delantera con Celio Taveira y Alberto Spencer un domingo de lluvia y barro...un puntero infernal, chiquito, rapidísimo y con una gambeta cortita e imparable. my mum and dad knew him and he knew them.my mum phyllis halbert dies last august but she always had fond memories of a lovely man who made her laugh.especially when she was passing the old miners welfare club walking our dog!
The day of his funeral I was in Lanzarote with the family and I worked in Celtic Park As corporate hospitality bar supervisor and got to meet a LOT of legends of the hoops past and present,so I HAD to find somewhere to see at least some of the footage of Jinkys ceremony and when it went past Celtic Park it felt strange yet heartbreaking to see at the time,and the following day or two Celtic where in the League cup final which I watched over there,knowing fine well once I came back to work the place felt hollow,almost a bit emptier for the loss of Jimmy,my dads words words & stories would echo through my head about Jinky,the Lisbon lions,the infamous rowing boat incident with the Scotland team,and the friendship he had throughout the years with Big Jim Baxter another Scottish legend who SAT ON THE BALL vs England so the defenders would come after them and he would STILL BEAT THEM! Two of the greatest players ever to come out Britain let alone Scotland! And the horrible disease that took Jinky away from us was a unwanting,relentless disgusting disease,with that said I feel heart sorry for Fernando Rickson and his family who has the bastard of a disease! From what he was on the pitch a take no prisoner,die hard for his club,every team needs one of those types of players to get stuck in and do the dirty work,sometimes you’d face a red card but it’s part & parcel of the job description! His short time left has been nothing but love,memories and the bringing (Again) a city that’s divided by football loyalties! Also a word about “Caeser” Billy McNeil and the horrible brain disease he has I’ve seen it first hand and that’s another take no prisoner horrible disease,it steals the memories which in his case where record beating! And steals the person away from the ppl who loved them so much!
