There is something really endearing about this interview. He seems to pay very close attention to the interviewer. And to me, it feels like he would answer any question asked of him. Very sincere.
"I can't mime a solo, cause they're always different." "I don't play like that." - That's what makes Jimmy a genius. "It's pantomime, if you know the word pantomime..." brilliant.
I love that Jimmy keeps his dignity, only speaks about the music, not personal business. His perogative. He is especially generous in this interview where the interviewer is more than obtuse.
I can't stop staring. He's beautiful at EVERY angle! It's almost impossible for him to look bad. There are few people who have that charisma on camera. Brigitte Bardot is that type of person, when she is on screen you can only look at her. You literally can't look away from these people.
Why must you announce that you're Japanese😅 I never understood that. A lot of people say that.."I'm Ken I'm English from England, I'm 45 Aries and I love pink Floyd
This is a clean and sober Jimmy Page. Very intelligent and a musical genius. Drugs and booze really affected him and his playing during the late 70's and early 80's. This is the real Jimmy Page. I admire the man so much.
My god I love this man. Something about him! He’s intelligent, interesting, charming, shy yet seductive, sexy, handsome, classy, respectful, patient and A ROCK GOD!
I watch this repeatedly. Jimmy Page is a beautiful creative genius, he doesn't need an interview to prove that. Move onto to his 1990 MTV Euro interview and you will completely understand this.
Jimmy is refined..Extremely intelligent. Without Jimmy, their would be no Led Zeppelin. He is also very kind and sweet natured. I have much respect for him. And I Love him very much.
Jimmy Page gave quite a few good responses. One that I particularly liked and found really helpful was when he responded with:"As I was saying about the band being as good as the audience, you start off and you go on stage and you start off the number and you are there and the audience sort of give you that response and then you have to rise above and it keeps going to the point where it's like that the band have to come, you know, above everything to elevate the audience so they go home really, you know, satisfied with a good evening's entertainment. And that's the way it was going, you know, through the whole tour."
Love this man so much , not been a fan that long as I had never heard of him believe it or not ,even though I'm in my late 40s .I fell in love with 80a Jimmy while watching The Arms Concert it may have been is lowest period but oh boy he just looked so damn cute .I think he looked amazing in the 80s and 90s ,although I'm glad the short hair period was short lived ,and he still looks amazing in 2018 ,JImmy is one beautiful talented man
My favourite --- Jimmy Page was beyond everyone in Rock Music and wild Guitar playing of distorted Blues, along with Jimi M. HENDRIX, and Elvis A. Presley ! He was a very creative in his times and still going very strong to this day ! He was beyond Genius even before the YardBirds came about ! Led Zeppelin was my favourite group since I was age 6 years old in 1971 ! The very first album was my favourite !
I was just saying to my friend tonight how amazing it is that Jimmy looks so healthy and sharp today and he reminded me that he more or less cleaned up his act around the time of this interview, so nearly 40 years since the late 70s/early 80s strung out waif he once was. Others have mentioned the healthy glow and softer, almost childlike features present in his face and it's true. Lucky man with good genes and an amazing constitution to have walked away from those years with the seeming ease that he did. The only thing that gets me about him is the lack of truly relevant music from him since this time. Zeppelin is of course more than any of us could wish to have conceived of, written, played, and much less produced, but most creative artists have later periods of relevant product. May Jimmy experience a late period of great music making yet!
Ever hear the Coverdale / Page album?? It cannot ever be dismissed. GREAT album, with some of Jimmy's best stuff on it. Everyone seems to forget too easily about all the other cooler than shit stuff that he has done after Zep. So what if he's not playing live anymore. He's earned the right to live and do whatever he wants to do! He owes us nothing at all after giving us everything
@@MJEvermore853 Very well put! We are indeed lucky this musical genius gave us Zeppelin. When Bonzo passed ( in Jimmy's house) he was devastated. His friends were terribly worried about him. Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck convinced him to do the ARMS concert to get him back to his guitar. So yes, any music he gives us is good, he'll never be Zeppelin again, but he's still with us , being cool, looking great. I hope he's around for years to come! Cheers Jimmy!!!!
This guy, so intelligent. His voice is so refined i could listen to him all day. He is also just so very beautiful, far too beautiful to be a man. Just so love ❤ James Patrick Page ❤❤
Seen Pagey three times... once in Richmond Park..he was driving in his Roller towards Kingston Gate....I said to my boyfriend 'Look at that Roller...is that....Page? we got closer [we were driving in the opposite direction to Richmond Gate] He was probably going to one of his houses out that way!...and once at Knebworth, and the best time was as a surprise guest at Hammersmith Odeon, Jeff Beck ..Two greats on the same stage...the audience all stood up...wonderful :)
Great interview! I saw The Firm twice in 1985 and once in 1986... those were some great concerts! I always hoped that The Firm would release a 3rd CD and tour... actually, I would STILL like to see them do it again!
I love these old interviews of Page's. Most of the questions are rather simplistic and almost stupid at times, so Page enjoys interrupting. So fun to watch. And Page always answers things in greater depth and detail than the interviewers anticipate.
+The8TrackChap Yes, yes! I agree! A lot of people comment that he never answers a question, but I agree with you. He gives much more detail than the journalists are expecting. (And so naturally, it MUST be because he's high, right? WRONG) I just love this guy. He really is so interesting to watch. What an interesting, lovely, playful artist. I'm so glad he chose to share of himself in interviews like this : )
He talks in detail to the point that it could get too technical because he really knows his craft and what his talent entails. He and the rest of the Led Zep members are intellectuals. It makes this rock group cooler than the rest of the pothead wannabees.
That's due to the fact that he's so f-ing sharp that it seems to surprise the interviewer actually-and he's still that sharp to this day now that he's clean!!! He's just so brilliant.....
Just interesting to see him at this point of their career. Obviously a technical musician, and is certainly consumed by his music and that of others as well
It's a silly childish fantasy but how I would love to see Page and Richards go on some kind of tour playing sit-down acoustic sort of "gut-bucket" blues shows together. Really informal-stories between songs, etc (Like the old VH1 storytellers in a sense). Maybe the occasional guest musician with them depending on where they are. I'd really like to see the chemistry of those two even at their ages now. I'm just curious how they would play off each other. How damn fun would that be?
I totally agree. I think more and more as his genius is revealed people would really love to hear more from him as an elder statesman of great rock. I know I would.
People think it's all fun and games. Who the hell am I kidding? I don't know if I could have handled the roll of a rock star. As much as I love to play and Jimmy is in my top two fave guitarists. (what guitarist doesn't admire the Jimmys?) It's so fucking demanding.I was in a cover band for 3 years and it kick the crap out of me.LOL These guitar gods are so shy but obviously, when they hit the stage, the musical monsters are let out of their cages I think he does great interviews. He's the best in my book Rock on Jimmy. .

I don't know what interview some of the people who commented on watched,it certainly wasn't the same one I did. He looks great sounds great. The interviewer was asking ridiculous queztions. How can he explain Music in words? Jimmy always speaks through his guitar. The guy didn't seem to have anything prepared. This was a missed opportunity to learn more about Page. Thanks for posting though. Being a fan I appreciate any footage .
As someone who watched the transition from the 70s into the 80s, I am fully convinced that the 80s was the beginning of the end for music. All the great bands prior to the 80s seemed to be forced into the world of videos and fluorescent jackets. Everyone was doing it from the Rolling Stones to Frank Zappa. Even David Bowie‘s music went downhill. There was a small come back in the 90s, but we’ve never really recovered from the damage of Reaganism and the corporate takeover of who listens to what. Gone are the days of 10 minutes songs on the radio Experimentation? What’s that?
I didn't cry at my mother or father's death, but I WILL be TOTALLY inconsolable the day Jimmy Page makes the Great Transition. (DEATH sounds SO negative and morbid) THEEEE greatest guitarist of the 20th century.I learned SO much from listening to the Magick of his playing for 40 years. Page is my main influence, musically, for guitar- all the Light and shade, heavy and soft, less is best- all of it came from Pagey. Thank you for all your incredible inspiration. THANK YOU, Jimmy.
I've had a crush on him since 1973. Aside from his musical genius, he's also very intelligent and well spoken. And a real clotheshorse - damn, he likes to dress up! And has been wearing scarves since the 1960s, anticipating today's scarf craze by decades.
@@derekrichards9418 Lori Mattix was a groupie and clearly put herself out there to rock stars. She was not concerned about being “a lady “ so she was cognizant of what she was doing not an innocent flower
@16:00 Jimmy speaks to someone off-camera, "Whatcha wanna do? Wanna bring that 'Birdie'? You can just sit her by me & she can answer the rest of the questions from now on." The interview resumes, Jimmy's irritated, he pouts, looks pensive, then mysterious & dark, then suspicious. He's Hilarious! Led Zeppelin was like the big brother of all the rock bands that came after, who would never get away with the same stuff they did. They broke every rule before it Was a rule! LOL, legendary.
Arbitrarily stopped at this comment and was reading the beginning of the quote just as he was saying it in the video. Usually I wouldn't post something so boring and trivial but I'm bored and I wanted post the 501st comment.
I've never seen Jimmy so relaxed even with the jerk interviewing. He sounds centered and very healthy. Anyone know what year this is? He really suits that lavender jacket. He's cute as that now, I think.
This was in about 1986. That's when the album 'Mean Business' came out. I was lucky enough to see Jimmy and the Firm in both '85 and'86. I recall being so excited at the fact that he and I ( and everyone else there) were breathing in the same air 😍
Luv the jacket and the hair; so talented, articulate, cute, and polite to that ass of an interviewer. Percy would have been snarky to the ass, I think. I'm happy Pagey is enjoying life in Tower House with his lovely lady poetess. 🎶💙
What a beautiful hair he has once I cut my hair and I did he style it was kinda cute. I saw his interview now that he’s old but I still like him look like a very nice person. I never have the chance to see one of his concert. I was kind of poor I couldn’t afford it but I have all the wreckers and now I have a lot of CDs and I still watch it.
I just can't bare these idiots always asking Jimmy about Robert Plant or Zeppelin! No one would know about neither of them if it weren't for Jimmy. Jimmy is the genius! He is the one who put Led Zep together, the one who gave ol bob a job, wrote the songs...etc... What's up? Is it because Jimmy is such a gentleman and so intelligent that you reporters can't get Robert or Zep off of your mind? Is it because Robert calls himself a golden god? How could anyone look at Jimmy and think about anything?
Sounds like the Stones track he refers to at the end was 'One Hit (To The Body ) ' 1st Track & single from Dirty Work album . Wonder when he finally got to hear it !! Mick & Keith were hardly speaking at that time !
Thanks notshine. Yes we are all here because we love the music of Led Zeppelin. Do you play guitar? I've been playing for 37 years and still Page surprises me with unexpected runs. I think it's too often to be a fluke; He must really be as good as he sounds - hahaha.
In 2020 he's still so cute. The hair is white and it suits him. Can still play circles around anyone else. I'm surprised that he doesn't have some arthritis (hope he escapes it).
I've read that he's got arthritis as well. This man has busted more fingers than any guitarist I've ever known, and has had to play 3+ hour shows with them broken on many different occasions. I don't know if that is how/why he's got arthritis, but man, he had a hell of a time with all the pain in those precious hands of his.
