Thank you for posting this of my dad! He was truly an amazing human. He loved music and loved to play anywhere someone said yes! He was humble and so loving. Way to go Dad!
Charlotte, what an awesome double tribute to your dad! To be inducted and to have Jimmy Page do the honors. What a night, absolutely deserve. Your dad is a legend! And it's so great to hear that he was a wonderful dad. That always makes me happy to find out that the entertainers that I really like we're all so good people. So nice for you to pop in here and say hello to us all, thank you!
Charlotte, glad the hall finally recognized him! To have rock icons refer to him as their ‘guitar hero’ is high praise. To be recognized all these years later, by both the Hall and Page making his first stage appearance in nearly a decade? That will etch the legacy in stone.
What an amazing tribute by one of my guitar heroes, to another one of my guitar heroes! Your dad was a musical genius and evidently a very loving parent. I don't know how many nights I had cold beer in the basement and played Rumble over and over on my Gibson, never tiring of it and wondering how so few chords could ever sound so much better than so many hits, it's so deep and mesmerizing and hits on so many levels. It made that scene in Pulp Fiction live forever in our minds - Pure genius!!!
Ha! I was so busy watching JumboTron Jimmy, that I totally did not see him hanging around on the stage. When the lights came on him, I nearly lost my mind. I think you can hear me screaming--I think I was near where the video was being taken. :):):) Made being there totally worthwhile.
Link Ray didn't need this bullshit induction into the rock and roll Hall of Fame to get recognition. All this organization does is sell tickets and ride on the coattails of genius and then pat themselves on the back and party all night. Big deal.
Link Wray has ALWAYS had recognition. If you know, you know. Just because Jan Wenner took decades to get it says more about him and the joke that is the RRHOF than it does Link Wray. Congrats to Link though, I guess.
I was in attendance. Page hadn't been named as a guest performer, but when the crowd realized he was about to play, everyone let out a gasp, and they all stood up, as did i.
We were lucky enough to see him outside, arriving for rehearsal on Thursday. It was just event staff, his handler, and my girlfriend and I. Awesome moment. I had this scenario pegged pretty quickly.
A judge uses verbal phrasing and a gavel to force all to rise, yet Page only needs to phrase through his guitar to earn voluntary respect and recognition from the masses......now that's an honorable figure above all the rest.
i can't even image seeing Jimmy Page walk out on stage..to play. OMG. Like when he did the 1983 ARMS charity concerts, walking out on stage solo post Zeppelin, the sound of the crowd errupting in a standing ovation with pure joy and happiness, some in tears, just to see him was other wordly.
Jimmy Page is probably the best artist to do this tribute to Link Wray. In "It Might Get Loud" it's fantastic to see the joy when he's playing the record, and air guitaring along. ♥️
Finally, Link Wray is inducted in the R&R Hall of Fame! 👍👍👍 It should have happened a very long time ago. People don't realize just how important Link was to the development of R&R. I'm so glad that he has finally got his due. 👏👏👏
I am a 23 year old Led Zeppelin disciple because of my father who is a child of the early 60’s and he and I have never been more close than now because of this man’s music and to know that jimmy was the one to do this brings a fucking tear to my eye in the best way possible! Rock and roll! Holy, wow! I have bipolar one disorder and ADHD this music speaks to me! Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, the who, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, humble pie, Emerson, Lake, & Palmer, Jimi Hendrix to name a select few friends who keep me company… I feel the love friends! Thank you much 🇬🇧
@@HarvestMoon2049as his son I can say that I’m proud to be a hippie modernized but still collect repressing vinyl and have bootleg cd’s and am a total music freak thanks to my dad who just celebrated his 61st birthday… I was crying watching this… fuck it, it’s rock and roll and that’s what this was all about and I know what you know this was a real deal honor for all involved
As someone older than your father who first saw Led Zeppelin at the age of 13, I am thrilled that you and your dad have this in common. A lot of people talk about how Led Zeppelin was so heavy, so loud, but there is a ton of their music that is so joyful. The Song Remains the Same, The Ocean, Custard Pie, Down By the Seaside and so many more. I hope you find the tunes that work the best for you when you're having a bad day or a scary episode (my former brother-in-law is bipolar so I have a little experience with what he goes thru). Most of all I just hope you enjoy the music and I'm really thrilled that you found something that speaks to you. The first time I saw Led Zeppelin live it changed my life. I turned back to a lot of the songs myself when things look dark. The absolute best to you my friend!
Thats awesome man. Excellent bands all. Love every one you mentioned but Zep is my Tops. Being 46 im much older than you but still young for a Zeppelin die hard. Discovered them in the 90s and was fortunate enough to see Page & Plant twice. They were absolutely fantastic. You have great taste. Cheers to you and your dad!!
In the mid to late 60s the slogan "Clapton is God" was popular. However, another Yardbird was the man. And he and his bandmates in the 70s took over rock n roll. JIMMY
Is there a Zep fan who saw this and was asking themselves......did Zeppelin ever cover this song live stage back in the day?......and was it recorded/filmed? I sure as hell was
@@DianeLake-sw3ymAn argument could be made amongst guitarists between who's better or more technical etc, but the arguement stops every time when it comes down to influential success. I mean all of Clapton's bands combined weren't as big as Led Zeppelin - a fact nobody would argue, not even for the beatles or the stones. Zeppelin were giants and still cast a shadow over everything today in the realm of influence.
I agree! I was also impressed by Willie Nelson. He was playing songs, solos, and singing. He's 10 years Jimmy's senior. I'm a huge Zep fan though, so every nanosecond of that Link Wray tribute was pure gold. Plus, it's just a great instrumental.
Oh, man, thanks for capturing this. Jimmy is in love with Rumble - I remember him playing it for The Edge and Jack White in "It Might Get Loud." Fearless, the essence of cool, showing the drama one can achieve with 6 strings - and the antithesis of the shredders who only know how to shred. Just effing excellent! 💙🎶🎶🎶💙
This song is a testament to how powerful music is. There are no lyrics yet this song was banned in multiple markets because it sounded menacing! Epic tune!!
Something I did not know. Amazing that a instrumental got banned. How it sounded menacing is beyond me. It's also amazing that while this great instrumental song with Wray's guitar was banned and yet, several years later during the late 60s you got songs on top 40 like White Rabbit. And a few years later a 6th grader was introduced to Jimmy Page & co. song Whole Lotta Love on top 40.
I'll never ever forget the silhouette of Jimmy Page with his doubleneck before the Page and Plant show in Atlanta. Chills for days and he proceeded to blow me away.
When Giants Walked the Earth (but few really knew them) Link Wray, T-Bone Walker, Goree Carter, Danny Cedrone, Earl Hooker, those other Kings besides BB, and a whole lot more greats that many people might not be aware of.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Also overlooked from the '70s is June Millington who wasnt an early groundbreaking influencer but could certainly play the hell out of a guitar and would probably have been an influencer to young women had the band been better known. Her guitar work on the studio albums with her Band Fanny were unfortunately often toned down a bit but fortunately two performances on the TV show Beat Club allow her to show her stuff properly. Here's a link to one song from that but be sure to check out the others if you like it. The rest of the band is great as well !!! m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N4l6FU74pUY.html
Finally, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame does something right. Link Wray deserved it much earlier, but nice that it happened. Plus, having Jimmy Page there to play Rumble is icing on a nice cake.
If you haven't realized this, the hall of claim mostly recognizes a musician/band after they've passed away. Nothing like showing supposed respect to one's influence by only giving them the time of day after that person is no longer able to receive it. It's like attending a funeral for someone you never cared about, but you attend anyway to save face.
Yes, surprise guest. He was not on any of the promotional materials up front. We were checking out the venue the afternoon before, and saw him arrive. When they started the pre-roll for Link, I got the phone rolling!
Damn, that was pretty awesome. The reaction when people realized that Jimmy was on stage was incredible. My first and foremost reference and influence as a guitarist. Great tribute. Txs for sharing 👍🏻
Rare sighting of the elusive Pagey in the wild... Meanwhile, we are reminded that the Rock Hall ought to have inducted Link Wray thirtysome years ago, had it been worth a damn.
Link Wray should have been in the hall straight away just for "Rumble". There is a direct link right from that song to Led Zeppelin and all the heavy guitar from the late 60's, early 70's
@@garychevalier2809There is no Jimmy, without Link, there is no Jimmy, no Beatles, no Stones, no Who, no Jeff Beck, without Lonnie Donegan, the man that inspired a music revolution. Listen to them all talk about Lonnie and his skiffle.
Love that they were faithful to to the Bass & Drums in this version. Lots of live versions sound like they're on steroids.. Great, Damn, Version, Jimmy!!
Jimmy, your and Link’s guitar playing have always needed to be expressed. So grateful to be able to witness this kind of induction in any way and be on the same planet while this going on!
The RRHOF is a F'n JOKE ! Might as well keep inducting Pop, Rap/Hip Hop , and Country artists that have NOTHING to do with Rock & Roll. Whats worse, and even MORE of a stab in the back is the fact that so many Pioneers of early Rock & Roll have still NOT been inducted. Dick Dale, Link Wray (earlier on) , Jan & Dean, Johnny Burnette, Marvelettes, Mary Wells, The Diamonds, The Clovers, Danny & The Juniors, Del-Vikings, Harptones, Tokens, and COUNTLESS other Rhythm & Blues (Doo Wop) , and Rockabilly artists. Politics and views is what its about, and that is pathetic !
I just realized that the majority of people at that event probably never had the pleasure of seeing Led Zeppelin live, or even seeing Jimmy play live anywhere. Except for 02 I think the last time he really did much of anything was when he and Robert toured with Zep reworked songs bck In the late 90s. I was fortunate enough to see Led Zeppelin four times and the Plant Page collaboration three times. I also saw Jimmy play at the ARMS benefit at the LA Forum in 1983 and a couple years later with The Firm l, also at the LA Forum. I can't help but smile and be happy for all the people who were there tonight and got the surprise of their life by seeing Jimmy Page on stage. For me it was always the most amazing wonderful happening. I hope everybody their felt the same way when they saw that it was him with that double neck rocking out.
You can see what happens when he takes a stage, the entire place stands up, same thing happened when he played the ARMS tour with Clapton, Beck and others, when Jimmy played the entire Forum stood the entire time! I think when Bernie Taupin came out one of the things he said was- I have to follow Jimmy Page?🤣
This one instrumental drips the essence of cool. Its the song that you want to have playing as you're walking the street of entering a room. Its badassery personified. Its about damn time Link got the recognition he deserves. Thank GOD for guitarists like Link Wray and Dick Dale for going with their gut instincts and inspiring so many others in their wake. Long live the SURF GUITAR!!!!
Reminds me of the good old days when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame predominantly featured rock and roll artists. Case and point, something's awfully wrong when Missy Elliott is in the Hall of Fame and Paul Rodgers isn't. Nuff' said 😡
@WilliamMorgan-rc5ud I didn't mean to imply that the Go-Go's didn't deserve to be inducted. It's just that the Dolls were a hugely influential band. I mean, how does Elvis Costello get in ahead of Deep Purple or the Alice Cooper Group?
Even the presence of the GREAT Jimmy Page, cannot redeem what a disrespectful embarrassment the Rock and roll Hall Of Shame is. This years slate is the worst yet. The only way to fix it is to throw people out or change the name to the Pop Hall of Fame.
Jimmy was magnificent and it was so good to see him still Playing in that stage. I wish he would tour. Even solo. I would love to just hear him playing❤🔥🔥🔥
⭕️THAT GUY RIGHT THERE 👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼 is “is” .....”IS” the BADDEST MAN ON 👉🏼THE PLANET we call EARTH!!! Actually he holds his own & his along with his 3 mates contributions has likely been felt Throughout the whole UNIVERSE !!! Transcending time & space !! GOD BLESS LED ZEPPELIN Amen!!
So glad I got to see Led Zeppelin in 77 when I was 7 . I`m pushing 2,000 concerts in my life and to this day it`s one of the BEST concerts I have ever seen.. STILL THE GOAT !!!!!!!!!
