Jimmy Staig's green bobber started out as a 1954 Triumph Thunderbird that he’d owned for around seven years. It was his daily ride and was the bike that introduced him to many of the other builders in Victoria’s vintage and custom bike scene. It was the bike he used to get around on while he built his other projects, but reworking the Thunderbird was always on the books. Then when the invitation came to display a vehicle at the Boogaloo Invitational he had the excuse he needed to get it done. Jimmy’s happy to admit he’s a big fan of the builds by Small City Cycles’ Todd Asin and the influence is clear with this bike. With Todd’s work in the back of his mind and a solid deadline to work towards he got cracking...
Filmed in Melbourne, Australia.

Hey! I enjoyed that. Took me back to the 70s when I was fascinated with choppers and Triumphs in particular. Nice music, too. Thank you!

I'm just happy to know that other people here in Melbourne are enthused by and have a passion for bobber builds, and in particular pre unit Triumphs.

I would imagine just leaving it alone from being exhausted and feeling people were critical telling you it's not really tough looking. I can imagine after a big Pursuit it takes time to settle down and enjoy something for what it is rather than what it's compared to by others.

People cannot understand the fact that a hardtail with a strong solo seat is actually a comfortable combination. I have that set up on my Triumph TR6 and I ride 70 miles an hour all day. It's actually more comfortable than my Sportster that has actual shock absorbers.

Great looking bike..authentic as you say 60's. My only (slightly) negative thought is about the RHS shifter and hand LHS clutch setup. Cool to look at for sure and shifting by hand feels cool but as it is you would lose all engine speed as you make the shift...I guess you get used to it. I have one of the last Meriden Bonneville T140 before Harris took over production in the early eighties but man, I sure love your chopper.

@coltonwancho6571

That's a stock frontend with fork covers. And the rear fender is a standard ribbed fender lots of companies make them for whatever size tire your running

No that's not factory but it's a "British" Engine, the Shift Lever is on the right instead of left side so it's easier to mount a suicide shifter

Wish the sold this motorcycle without engine and transmission but everything else that’s on it and add a speedometer than operated of the front wheel and turn indicators and headlight if it don’t have already on it so that it could truly street legal and a sprocket system that handle go kart chain causes if I had a setup like this motorcycle I would put a predator 420 key start and up the maximum rpm of the engine to 4200 with a torque converter transmission that can handle 18 horsepower on it with a 50 tooth rear sprocket and either a 15 or 17 tooth sprocket on the transmission side
@rustybeatty6567
@rustybeatty6567 4 года назад
Mow Money Mods I live in the USA this bike would not be street here no lights and speedometer means it’s not ready for legal street use.
@rustybeatty6567
@rustybeatty6567 4 года назад
@@electricdeckhead3083 I'm thinkin adding turn indicators and speedometer would make the bike safer. Considering the number of motorcycle accidents each year and no motorcycle is to old to have a speedometer.
@rustybeatty6567
@rustybeatty6567 4 года назад
Mow Money Mods in the USA I’ve seen countless number of older motorcycles built before 2005 with predator 212 to 420 that are completely street legal even seen a few front wheel drive cars and compact trucks with predator 670 or kohler diesel and Kubota Diesel engines that are street legal.
@rustybeatty6567
@rustybeatty6567 4 года назад
@@electricdeckhead3083 yeah but you're missing out on the fine art of customization imagine taking a 1978 Honda Cb350 four with the only problem with it is a seized up motor and a burnt transmission but the rest of the bike is fine and in working order but finding a OEM engine and transmission would cost you 2500 dollars but you can get it back up and running for less than 1200 dollars all you need is a predator 420cc engine which costs about 400 dollars and a CVT transmission for 450 dollars only needs a little frame modification to bolt the engine and transmission to the frame and removing the engine fuel tank and upgrade the intake and exhaust system once you done all that work you now have a motorcycle that any one can ride because of the CVT transmission no need to shift gears and no clutch lever to deal with the clutch lever and cable could be modified to become the rear brake lever no more foot activated one which is a good thing for someone who has prosthetic legs no shifting gears or rear brake pedal to deal with. Basically the motorcycle is now a fully automatic witch is good for beginners or older riders you can just enjoy riding and not having to worry about shifting gears which will lessen fatigue of longer riding especially in city areas and a lot of stop and go traffic. Industrial engines are better built than automotive engines because a industrial engine have a cast iron sleeve and are a 2 valve push rod setup which can run for hours at 3600 to 4000 RPM'S which is at full throttle and with good maintenance can last for years without having to many problems other than spark plug replacements every other year and having a very simple carburetor that anybody can repair if necessary.
