Jin's my favorite character in the VS. series. I love when smaller Capcom games get a chance to shine and Jin is the perfect embodiement of that. Landing a Blodia Punch is just so so satisfying.
Maybe it’s just me but when it comes to crossover games I’ve always found the more obscure characters to be the most interesting pick for me because it sparks my interest to try out the game they come from even if the game they originate from is a bad game. While not an official game I remember in 2018 I was on RU-vid looking at my home feed and I kept seeing this video pop up called “SEGA All Stars Warzone” and the video was proof of concept video for what a SEGA Smash Bros and it’s pretty ahead of its time considering that the video was published in 2012. I was watching the video and they were showing off some off the usual SEGA characters like Alex Kidd, Aiai and Akira but around the middle half of the video he showed off a character named Kazuma and he came from a series called Yakuza (or Like a Dragon) but I couldn’t recognize him because the character portraits where zoomed so I couldn’t recognize the character but then he showed off some screenshots and Kazuma just so happen to be in one of them and then I remembered that this character was from Yakuza series but what confused was that the Yakuza series was big series because my real exposure to the Yakuza series was through Project X Zone 2 but in that game they use their Dead Souls move set which at the time I thought at one point SEGA just so happen to make a weird zombie game with characters who are part of the Yakuza but after seeing the Warzone video I realized that Dead Souls was a spin off game in the Yakuza series.
Jin's ending also shows Onslaught's third form (after Hulk destroyed his second form in the comics) and Jin sacrifices himself the same way the Avengers did. Capcom really did a good job with all the source material.
Jin is definitely an interesting C.Falcon like situation, I would actually compare him to Roy a bit as well, what with all the fire that he didn't have before, and the "Personality in crossovers becoming his actual personality now because it's just cooler" thing, as for my experience with him, kind of the same thing with Venom, kinda want to try him out but I still haven't unlocked him yet, (Except Jin is actually an unlockable, not a starting character that I forgot about) although I can never get charge inputs somewhat consistently unlike motion inputs, (Granted I still suck at motion inputs) so I don't really know how I'll like him when I do get to it, I definitely think he should be brought back at some point, the fans love him and he's a nice more obscure pick. I also didn't expect to see Devilotte covered, I'm guessing that's how some other assist characters will be covered? And in other news, I managed to get my hands on Marvel Super Heroes PS1 and Viewtiful Joe PS2.
That might be how I do MvC1's assist characters, yeah. I actually initially only did Devilotte because I think she's cool but halfway through editing I realized I probably have a good framework for doing them here. The Mini Mix stage video practically doubled as an Unknown Soldier video anyway. Good stuff on the games! MSH PS1 is honestly an okay way to play the game, and VJ PS2 is still a good time, especially given Dante. I'm actually currently playing through the latter myself!
@@TheSeventhForce Good idea, heck for the characters that don't fit into any other video, (I.e, one's like, Lou and Jubilee) can just have a mini mix video for them.
Jin Saotome kinda reminds me a bit of Tsurugi Momotaro from Sakigake Otokojuku. The headband and scarf along with the overly dramatic, yet somewhat comedic masculine overtone feel right at home with that manga. Edit: Both are also fundoshi-wearing swordsmen who embody the spirit of Japanese pride, which I find interesting as well. I think when I first saw him it was Momotaro who came to mind.
One thing to add about Devilotte is that she's the only assist in the game that's truly unblockable. The slow startup of the explosion is to balance it out. Great video as always. I hope to see you cover Ironman or Spiral in the near future.
I am not familiar with gundam much at all so I was wondering where the heck his personality and most of his vs moveset came from after finally getting to play Cyberbots in it's recent collection releases. But I feel better knowing it's all just homages to mecha media that inspired his creation to begin with and not them just taking a lot of liberties without any sense behind it lol. Also love the Devilotte segment, all things considered, she's definitely a favorite of Capcom's and mine too.
I gotta say i love Jin's theme. Btw the F-Zero GP Legend protagonist (F-Zero's anime) Rick Wheeler kinda looks like him. Also, fun fact: his name is Ryu Suzaku in Japanese and there's an episode where he disguises as Street Fighter's Ryu
I like to also think Jim is somewhat the Vs. Series equivalent to Marth in SSBM because both characters come from game series that where more of a Japan phenomenon though unlike Cyberbots which sadly has fallen into Capcom’s list of dormant franchises and Fire Emblem has gone on to be one of Nintendo’s most prominent franchises.
Like most English speakers, MvC was my first encounter with Jin and he just seemed so unbelievably cool. At the time, I had never really seen any mecha anime and more or less had no idea anything that was being referenced. I feel like he might have been this for a lot of kids and teens back then, and that's likely why he stuck with so many people, myself included. If there's ever another Capcom Vs game, Jin is just a must, in my opinion, especially since Cyberbots is so easily available on every platform. I'm convinced that, if Venom can be done right in 3D, they can absolutely do Jin justice
Yep, same here. I knew of Cyberbots from mentions in old gaming magazines back in the day, but didn't know he was actually from that game. And yeah, Jin's a must if they ever do another game. I think Capcom's artists are more than capable of bringing him to life now.
Jin wearing a Japanese WW2 uniform when he is inspired by the protagonist of apocalypse zero is weird because that series is pretty clear that what Japan did during WW2 was horrific and shouldn't be glorified
As a kid the familiar characters like Spider-Man got me interested in MVC2 but the strange but cool characters I knew nothing about like Captain Commando, Jin and Mega Man kept me always wanting to keep playing, to learn more about them
Note 1: Where more I deep in production's backstage of Capcom charactes more I seen references to Classic TV and book shows. The Inspirations of those guys seems to be no end. Note 2: Jin also appears as a secret in Console's Tech Romancer(the same one who protagonist mecha got In-reference to MVC's Megaman). And because of these reason some fanbases accuses Tech Romancer to be a "Cyberbots 2" like-sequel. I wonder, If there could really been connection to these series in particullar! Note 3: Toru Furuya( 4:55 ) also became popular in sake of role of classic Tuxedo-Mask for Sailor Moon Series.
Tech Romancer definitely seems to be the culmination of the mecha focused games Capcom made up to that point, even getting actual mech anime designers involved with the character and mech design. Some of the staff that worked on it also worked on Cyberbots, but if there's any further connection between the two series outside of Jin, it's probably mostly in spirit.
Danm! It's almost like another easter egg! Capcom's Staff elevates TR to such upper level than Grand Kaiser got Cameo in Lost Planet's Ivan for Tatsunoko VS Capcom. Guess what, in the first scene Kaiser appears fighting Blodia. (OMG)
Insofar as mecha roles, Yuji Ueda standout roles (for me) are: - Akito Tenkawa (Martian Successor Nadesico and other appearances of the character) - Crowe Broust (Super Robot Wars Z saga) - Mario and Julio Renato (Gundam Build Fighters) - Billy Lee Black (Xenogears)
Never made the connection with Apocalypse Zero, thought he was a Kamen Rider homage. I'm pretty sure Apocalypse Zero was a Kamen Rider homage, so in a round about way Jin is also.
The fact that Jin’s design and certain moves were inspired by the Apocalypse Zero series makes me love his character more. The protagonist Kakugo, is a pretty badass character himself. Even if the monsters he had to kill were uh…very…um…bizarre.
There's a Google doc linked in the video description that has every song used in this video stamped and timestamped for your convenience. Hope it helps!
It's the MvC2 Credits theme! Just for further reference, I have a music list linked in the video description that outlines every song I use in every video with timestamps. Hope that helps!
I would love to see Jin returning to... Anything Capcom. Be a sqeuel to Cyberbots, Armored Warrior or whatever, or in another Versus Game. I've always loved his very 80's energy of mecha anime, with the likes of Getter Robo and G Gundam.
Jin is one of those characters that come from a game that he's in a mech the whole time and when getting into a crossover game he's fighting not using his mech. Similar to Super Robots Wars original characters getting into the Endless Frontier games and the Sakura Wars characters, Tron Bonne, and Devilotte in the Project X Zone games.
It's funny that Boyacky's VA also says "Pocchitona!" in this Cyberbots cutscene ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0m50zdrWE5s.htmlsi=hAgGsNpidRj7CBR5&t=763
Two character profiles with a whole week. You are on a roll, dude. First Venom, and now Jin Saotome. Speaking of which, Jin is such loose cannon for a mech pilot, but in a good, funny badass kind of way. As for Devilot, She definitely lives up to being the straight person of a long line of comedic villainous trios like those of Team Rocket and those before them. Cyberbots truly was underrated. Though Jin's time in MVC1 and MVC2 was short, but he did a impact, especially those in gaming, and anime, even those with mechs like those of Gundam. And thank you for referencing G Gundam and Domon Kashu. How you have the time to get this video together, is either by patience, or with the help of KYOJI!! Sorry. Anyway, keep up the good work with you Capcom vs. Legacy videos. I have a feeling that we will see more goodness from your videos. Stay frosty, my friend. 😉
Helps that I was off from work for a week, haha. That said, when I'm not working, or with friends, etc, I like working on this series as a way to decompress at the end of a day, so I can get a lot done in a week, depending on the character. Thanks for being so supportive!
Back then I only play Capcom vs on arcade for arcade mode because combos, so I've got 0 xp on fighting actual players. One of my friends mentioned Devilotte's affinity with Strider's Ouroboros, rings locking down opponent and Devilotte being unblockable. Guy at the mall challenged me and got wrecked 3 times with that combo. On 2nd thought that's probably why I'm not seeing it much with fightcade vids today because its so cheap
I was always so annoyed with Jin. I had no idea who he was and why he got naked. I always found his voice annoying as hell and his cyclone stupid with his face all over the place
I first saw Jin on the MVC1 cover mistaking him for Ryu for some reason smh. But when i played MVC2 i definitely clinged to Jin amongst the Capcom side (maybe because i also like Jin Kazama in Tekken 3). I definitely wanna play Cyberbots someday.
CapCom and Jin done, we need only Hiryu to get the full Capcom holy trinity! Hope you one day consider (perhaps as a smaller project/vid) a Hiryu/Zeku connections one. Anyway keep up the great job!!!
Hiryu is definitely one I want to get to as soon as I can! I have something in the works (still a while out though) regarding a specific Capcom IP and their relevance to the genre, but a general bushinryu video doesn't sound like a bad idea either now that you mention it...
If Capcom ever made a MVC 4 (not counting Infinite) I would love to see Capcom put Devilotte on the roster and her moveset could be similar to Donrojo from Tatsunoko vs. Capcom where Dave and Xavier would come out to assist Deviloette on the battlefield and her supers would be mixture of both powerful and comedic simliar to Doronjo.
She'll come eventually! Characters that have appeared in the most games (Ryu, Wolverine, Chun-Li, etc) tend to be the longer videos to produce, so I tend to space them out.
Any chance of Roll being the next character covered? I love how in MvC she is mostly a nerfed megaman but in TvC Roll is a joke character that can be a total menace even in competitive play.
