Werdum vs Volkov is an example of top level bjj not been able to overcome the size. Obviously Thor/Martin's have no skill but their size/strength difference is vastly larger than that example. Gordon wins sparring, but I think most people who have spent a few years training would favor Thor/Martin's in a fight. You have to remember sport bjj has strict rules that actually make it unrealistic. Skill diminishes when you get your head bounced off the floor. None of this is an insult to Gordon. I gotta see Gordon in mma. I need to see how he’d incorporate his master jiu-jitsu with punches/elbows and kicks/knees coming at him. To see his thought process in breaking down the attacks against him. I imagine he’d be like Royce Gracie with the throwing of rabbit punches and kicks to set up submissions.

It's really interesting how staying relaxed with intense burst is a skill in jiu - jitsu as it is in boxing and I imagine strong man competition as well. It's amazing that Gordon could roll with Thor and Martins and not be the one that is out of breath afterward. The guy is a supreme ninja. Thor and Martins jumped right in and gave it a go at the very top level, WOW!!!! Jiu - Jitsu and Wrestling are the ultimate arts of body chess. What appears to be a pure test of strength is actually a game of chess. There is another secret skill that can't be developed and that is double joints. I've seen experienced jiu - jitsu practitioners that could not submit a novice because he had them. The friendship you and Martins have with each other is the most impressive of all. The way you can compete so hard and be happy for each other's victories is a joy to behold.

@@az21bob666 I was in the local gym lifting 3-4 days a week because I knew getting stronger would help in a lot of situations where I was lacking in technical skill...usually it was the smaller guys that would say strength doesn't matter...I'm 6'3" & was around 250lbs. at the time most my training group were as large or larger & all lifted regularly a few did strongman & power lifting body building ect. so others knew being strong is an asset in anything.

@@az21bob666 that is delusional. Thor would get choked out vs an "average" black belt. It would not be easy for a blackbelt because of his unusual size but to downplay how extreme the difference is between someone with no training and all the technical skill vs a complete novice is naive to say the least. Unless you have done jiu-jitsu you likely can't know how it feels. You likely don't know how truly vulnerable an untrained person is, regardless of size, against a blackbelt. It's the equivalent to speaking a foreign language you have never spoken.

@JohnDoe-pt7ru Год назад
Jujutsu was meant for throwing, not grappling on the ground. Samurai in the field would be killed if they messed about on the ground. They had to throw their opponent, kill them with a weapon, then move to the next.
@mmurmurjohnson2368
@mmurmurjohnson2368 Год назад
@@JohnDoe-pt7ru , Originally designed around throwing, tripping etc. then grappling on the ground with either your own tanto short blade or unsheathing your opponent's and exploiting small gaps in his armor after flooring them. It started as a close quarters form of knife fighting and grew into a system more focused around empty handed grappling techniques and judo. On the ground and scrambling is where many armed combatants ended up, intentionally or unintentionally, Jiu Jitsu was indeed designed to address this hard fact of reality. I'm not at all saying that two spearmen or swordsmen were looking to implement any form of ground combat as their first option, but on the ground and scrambling favored those who were well versed in it as we even see play out in modern competition based combat today, and even in this very video.
