They do a great job of avoiding full guard and most people suck at rubber guard anyway. Still this particular move is basically just giving someone a triangle.

I’m a 10P guy. I Defend against rubber guard in rolls pretty regularly. If you back out like this, a good rubber guard player can catch you in a dead orchard. That being said. I have popped out the back many times on guys that obviously didn’t have the best rubber guard game yet but, I don’t risk it on guys who’s game has developed.

Totally agree there are some anatomical considerations here. Just like a triangle or many other jiujitsu moves. If Gordon Ryan got caught in a dead orchard he would probably just flex and the dudes legs would explode off with such velocity it would reverse the rotation of the earth. But for the rest of us mortals we should watch out for that orchard trap doing this technique. But what the fuck do I know i will never be on Gordon’s level.

I don't see anyone catching Dead Orchard here. He's A) got his arms around the hips making it difficult to lock a triangle over a shoulder, and B) he's stacking to crowd the hips, making mobility difficult, and any successful DO a very weak one.

In the second fight there's no rubber guard. Bravo spend most of the time in the deep half guard. But I agree he schooled Royler. That was beautiful to watch. A lot of eletric chairs and one vaporizer I guess. But I'm not a 10 Planet guy, just a fan of grappling

Does this applicable to GIs? coz theres alot of friction on it, and also the guard player may transition into something like grabbing one of his wrist(easy with GI) and goes for the omoplata.

This is a good early detection escape against somebody who is novice at rubber guard. Done correctly, her left foot should be placed on his hip to control posture as well. And when Ryan placed his hand on the mat, she should have hugged her right knee with her right arm, this complicating sliding out the back.

This is a great video. The only problem is he isn’t showing different variations of different things happen in the rubber guard! He’s only showing one variation to one thing happening in rubber guard. Hint to why so many people think it won’t work! How is this escape prone to dead orchard since the sub it's a arm in triangle? And if a triangle is there i don't think the posture is low enough to get it. Im not a bjj savvy guy but in the last saunders fight, his opponent escaped rubber guard by posturing and getting up, which it's no different than this. Putting the arms close to his thighs avoid getting zombie and the arm for the dead orchard. Maybe i am very wrong but i am not that knowledgeable in bjj.

I'm just commenting this because its the literal direct counter to his escape and its what the move was designed to do so as someone trying to teach rubber guard defense it should be mentioned. Obviously the top tier black belts and absolute divisions of the IBJJF, ADCC and EBI can escape, but I guarantee you anyone who isn't a top tier talent will get caught in the Dead Orchid.

But what if she walks her shoulders back? It will destroy his posture once again. And yeah another thing missing is her right arm should be hugging her knee especially when his arms is down on the floor. Not really criticizing but just having a hard time rolling with 10thpjj dudes. The only remedy, even Eddie bravo himself has done it, is them good old leg locks to counter the rubber guard

Rubber guard starts with holding the leg then you zombie for the overhook, why would Gordon let you put on a fully controlled position then say now guys get out lol, its like putting someone in a full blown rear naked choke all neck, hands locked behind the head then saying now escape lol! Even Gordon would be forced to submit if he was put in that position! There’s a point in every submission where you must tap beCause there’s no out at that point

This is only one option against a weak control. Let's see the rest of the concepts. If the guarder is good, there is no escape without sacrificing a limb for an attack, unless you manage to walk the shoulders inside and free your head. Add a Gi in the mix and you're fucked with this attempt to open any guard.

Controlling the leg opposite your under hook and keeping your head above your opponents rubberleg is the key. Once you can control that leg start with the knee cutter pass works all the time.

Lmfao!!! That’s not how rubber guard works! Haha It’s a system, so no one is just holding you in rubber guard. That transitions would come so fast from someone who actually plays it that it would be incredibly difficult to use this technique to break it. I’m not saying rubber guard is the end all be all. It’s incredibly difficult to master. Learning how people “break it” just so you know how to keep it is the main key. However once you realize it’s a system and not something that you just “hold” some one in to break their posture you’ll know it’s not this easy. Correct me if I’m wrong but has Gordon competed against someone who plays rubber guard? I’m not sure, but I’m gonna guess not really.

There's a 10p school near me that competes in gi and their collar chokes are very sneaky from rubber guard. No gi I haven't had trouble with it

When I first saw this I thought "that's not the rubber guard. Her left foot should be on his right hip. She should be trying to control his arm with a zombie, so much wrong here." Then I saw how he "breaks" it, by pushing forward, up on his feet, and his head over her head, and I thought "yep, that's exactly why they had her do rubber guard incorrectly." If she had her foot where is supposed to be she could push his body back so that his head wouldn't be over her head. So yeah this is how you get out of rubber guard by someone who isn't even doing rubber guard.

Rubber Guard isn't about holding your ankle as a clamping mechanism. Its actually hugging your knee and laying on your side forcing your opponent down. If you can't properly perform the technique, how can you explain how to escape???? A LOT of 10P guys dont know how to play rubber guard either unless they've trained with Eddie Bravo or Ben Eddy.

Nope that is the start of rubberguard.. called mission control in the system the knee hugging comes after you zombie your arm and force the opponent arm to the mat that is called new York in the system :)
