Jiu Jitsu vs Boxing for Self Defense

Jiu Jitsu vs Boxing, what is the best for Self Defense? Both are great sport and I would recommend training and practicing both for fitness but for self defense I would confidently recommend boxing. In fights, with boxing you could face multiple attackers while jiu jitsu you can focus on dealing with 1 enemy only.

What is the best for self defense? BJJ or Boxing? Let me know 👇 How to Throw a Punch in a Fight: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QMxN1BSbTJU.html
@willtherealrustyschacklefo3812
boxing can be a lot better than bjj, especially if we mean strictly bjj. however actual jujitsu is better than both.
@willtherealrustyschacklefo3812
but they must both be actually trained for that purpose, strictly practicing bjj or boxing only within the context of those sports aren't going to be as helpful in real life as many imagine. if at all depending on the situation.

Just curious, you talk about boxing for health and fitness ... and then mention brain damage. Perhaps you might want to clarify that disconnect a little? Now, I assume you are referring to the brain damage that results from hard, competitive boxing. However, this is all relative, is it not? Could not an unathletic, recreational boxer subject himself to blows that, overtime, could be just as debilitating as an athlete experiences at a competitive level?
@willtherealrustyschacklefo3812
@@sylphlite8437 yes, however boxing is much different from boxing "training" which is mainly various drills and exercises to develop your physical ability, level of skill. Not fighting with people lol

Bit of both is the best, but in a self-defense situation I'd rather have good boxing and a blue belt in BJJ than an black belt and shit boxing. Last thing you want to do is go be mounting a guy and having his buddy start soccer kicking your head. Being able to move effectively with footwork and jab will defuse most self-defense situations without needing to hit a single leg. Especially when there may be more than one aggressor.

Another thing no one told me when I was younger and found out the hard way later, is how bad having a messed up tmj/jaw sucks. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I found out after going to the ER with a pulse of 180 thinking I was having a stroke because of how bad my head hurt. After ruling out all neurological issues, the neurosurgeon says, hold on, have you had your jaw checked out? I said no, I've been meaning to though because it has popped a lot after I injured it in a muay thai tournament. He says, well I think we just figured it out. When you've had injuries to your jaw, it can cause inflammation to spring up almost randomly later on in life. In short, your head swells up. But, there's not really anywhere for this pressure to go, and builds up in your face, head, and neck. It presses on the nerves to these areas and causes all sorts of fun. Stuff like, your ears will ring nonstop while at the same time being so sensitive to loud noises you lose your balance if you're around them. Your eyes can get blurry and also very sensitive to light. You'll have random spasms that will cause your jaw to snap shut where you just have to hope you don't bite your tongue or cheek when it happens. You'll grind your teeth so bad they'll chip or fall out if you don't sleep with a night guard all the time. And, you'll basically have the worst migraines that exist, they just don't go away for weeks or months at a time. There's no real treatment besides medication, physical therapy, orthotics, and surgery if all else fails. Like I said, it just flat out sucks. Meds help. But, they're also so heavy that you'll sleep twice as much as before and not be productive whenever taking them.

Great question.... there is no perfect answer as there are too many variables. Situational awareness is key and avoidance. Staying on your feet is much better from a tactical perspective than going to ground. Combination of good striking (boxing, kick boxing, thai boxing) and grappling (wrestling, bjj, judo) will give you loads of skills in self defence. Krav Maga will also add tactical skills to your toolbox 👍 I love all martial arts / combat sports, but there is no one perfect system. You could be a black belt in everything and still get suckerpunched to the back of the head. Do whatever gives you joy and keeps you fit mentally and physically 👍 Peace ✌️

Best self defense is to just run away, it's not worth it to fight desperate people who might have weapons. If you can't run away it's because someone is grappling you, and Jiu Jitsu is king at escaping and running away.

You’re confusing street fights with self defense. Sometimes the attacks come out of nowhere or multiple people come at you at once. Or perhaps you’re in a crowded place where it makes running away difficult. Knowing how to strike and how to defend against them are essential.

@@RomeoTheBeast11 Are you worried about increasing your chances of not getting hurt overall or are you worried about dealing with fringe or avoidable scenarios that you have a very low chance of getting out of regardless?

Agree, best IMO would be a kind of kickboxing like muay Thai, but to take it to the next stage you need wrestling/BJJ

I'm Korean, and because of the stupid law in Korea, if you hit the bad guy with a striker even if you're threatened by a bad guy, there's a high probability that the one who used the blow will be legally punished, for whatever reason, so I practice Jiu-Jitsu, and I relatively injure my opponent. I suppress it while not letting it go

You may be correct, but we train for multiple opponents in traditional jiu-jitsu (not BJJ). We have the rule of 4. If you can manage your distance with 4 people, you can do it with 40. One of the key factors is using one person as a blocker so you reduce the concurrent attacks. But in that situation I do find boxing helps a great deal alongside it.

Both are good but I really like as an exboxer you understand the damage being hit in the head can cause, I have trained boxing and Thaiboxing for almost 30 years and it is the one I like.

Agreed. I started doing BJJ nearly a year ago and while I love it I think striking arts like Boxing and Muay Thai is better for self defense. Ive been training in Muay Thai for 5 years and thats my main martial art.

Learn both. As far as fighting multiple assailants the best self defense is learning to read a room. Before it happens to begin with.

Any style of combat is viable depending on the situation. It's really how disciplined and aware one is in such situation. Your safety is number 1 priority, so do whatever possible that'll get you out efficiently.

I agree boxing is the more effective defense and offense in any street fight! Now if you do have some skill in grappling that would make you a war machine!! I box every weekend!before that,Ive had a lot of street fights coming up and i know for a fact its going to start with our hands!! So a master boxer would floor most aggressors from the start!! 🫡🥊🥊🥊 salute coach 🥊🥊

Depends on the scenario. If you are going to fight several opponents simultaneously like a group of bullies, then boxing. For 1 on 1 fights, jiu jitsu all the way, just look the first MMA fights from 1993.

facts . going to the ground is fatal on the street . ju jitsu only works on the ground. judo would be better for the street . I've seen multiple videos of boxers taking out 2-3 people in street. haven't seen any ju jitsu taking out more than 1 person
