In this clip from episode 156 JJ Redick talks about the exact moment he knew it was time to retire from the league
-----
Get on the bus with NFL players Will Compton & Taylor Lewan! The Boys are letting you in on their hilarious, high-energy (and often heartfelt) conversations. Topics range from exclusive stories to active player perspectives to out-of-left-field hot takes on things you and your friends only discuss behind closed doors. Sometimes they chat with a guest, sometimes it's just the two of them, but it's always a good time when you're Bussin' With The Boys.
And yes, this is the podcast where Mike Vrabel said he'd cut his piece off for a Super Bowl.

It's really telling of the human psyche that you can make $117,000,000+, retire at 36, and still be terrified of what you're going to do next. JJ is ultra successful, hardworking, and smart. It actually makes me feel better about some of the doubts I've had in my own life.

Nothing to do with the money, but think about athletes who make it to his level and how hard they worked how long they trained how many hours were spent in a gym its their life and has been there life some their whole lives and now all that just ends thats gotta be a crazy melon collie feeling. What do you do with all that time, how do you interact with family all the time now when before you were barely there and even when you were you had the game on your mind. I made it to college level and ended because of am injury an was weird feeling for even me at that low level

What JJ said makes no sense. I understand he meant he didn’t know what his next career would be. But you got all that money and young kids you don’t have to do anything you can focus on them. Or with all that money take a trip. I don’t believe that “idk what to do next” take. I bet you there’s so much shit he wish he could’ve done but couldn’t bc he was in the league

As a person that lives in Raleigh and was here when JJ was playing in Durham, it WAS that intense and the majority of people were THAT invested yet had zero to do with the team, school, or the games. I would hate to be a Carolina or Duke player during those years. It's cooled a bit with the number of 1 and Dones, but back then, it was freakin' stupid.

Went to NC State while JJ was at Duke, even saw him from court side during an ACC tournament when he was at his peak. Haven't seen a shooter like that in College everything. He was a phenomenon.
@dannyh5937
@dannyh5937 2 года назад
People forget. He rarely had a bad game. Back at Duke he wasn't the player he is now. He couldn't dribble and drive the way he did towards the middle of his career. He got all those points off of screens and shooting the rock in someone's face. I can't think of a shooter to ever be as good as JJ in college.

hosting is hard. open-ended questions are so great for guests to meander, but the personal anecdotes really slow things down especially if it's not finished in like 10-20 secs and doesn't further add on to questioning.

JJ Redick is very good at hosting podcasts. He is smart, highly creditable, surprisingly likeable, respected by other athletes and he asks very good questions. The only thing he is missing is a good co-host. If JJ good get a host with the credibility and sense humor as a John Salley or Charles Barkley his show would be much better. The guest seem to get annoyed every time his cohost asks a question.
