Man, does boots look beautiful. Specially after oiling them. Has a natural cxl color now. Now that steel toe is less noticable too!

Man I’m jealous !! I have had several pair delivered to me with no obenaufs. Nice boots, breaking in my 10” fire inlanders as I type this.

Josh Conatser lu82 Dayton Ohio. I'm curious to hear what they say about the sole separation. I'm considering ordering some JK's.

The eyestays on your boots are almost touching. Maybe sized a bit wide? If they stretch much, you may run out of adjustment (thicker socks would help). My OTs came with a very sharp clinch nail poking through the insole. Thankfully, it can not be felt on the foot. The insoles make them so tight they hurt just standing. Who cares about a fancy box? FWIW, JKs sizing 7.5EE, Nicks 8.5D, Iron Rangers 8.5D, Tony Lama Black Label 8.5D, Lucchese 8D

I figure I'll add tongue protectors if they need a little more space taken up for width.

@@thoughtlessjon Cool. I didn't notice you didn't have the kilties in.

@@Old_Sailor85 Unlike their more expensive boots, these ones don't come with kilties.

I've heard worrisome things about JK: the eyelets just falling out, the mid-sole disintegrating after a week, sole separation like you showed at the end, different sized left/right boots, etc. Personally, I think that safety toe showing so strongly is a sign of poor quality control, though itself is likely to not be a functional problem. Every brand will have it's unfortunate mistakes, but I've read more negative about JK than positive, compared to other PNW brands which are generally well-liked. Supposedly the customer service isn't great with JK, but I haven't personally attempted to purchase from JK. I'm really interested to find out how your situation resolves.

All that I know about boot making, I learned from YT, but I would think they could have a modified last to make the safety toe blend in more. It does seem to have become less noticeable after I wore them for a while.

@@thoughtlessjon Safety shoes are a minor part of their business. The boots are designed without them, adding safety toes is a compromise, at best.

@@Old_Sailor85 Agreed. Many of the other PNW brands don't even offer safety toes & definitely not at this price point.

@@thoughtlessjon ??? Nicks, Whites, Franks all offer safety toes, though sometimes you have to specifically mention it in their order notes depending on the default boot configuration. I think Nicks can't do steel toes with their Munson-inspired lasts. The Franks "Patriot ST" (steel-toe), specifically, is slightly under $400 and is basically a standard 10-inch logger-style boot, just with no customization options outside of being brown/black. The non-steel toe version can be smooth or roughout. From what I understand, as a sort of compromise to sell the Patriot model at that price point, they refuse to rebuild that specific type, as the rebuild would basically cost the same as a new boot. They do still offer resoles for it. Admittedly, the only PNW brand I have personal experience with is Whites without steel toes. All I can rely on is either video/photo evidence or anecdotes/general reputation for the other brands. But then, I don't have infinite boot money to personally test every boot from all the brands, so reputation does end up mattering.

@@scottofcanes you had me until the 10" thing. I like a 6 inch boot. I swear before I pulled the trigger on these, I looked at each site of all the PNW brands. Maybe I missed where I could ask for a safety toe in a 6 inch boot when ordering, but I didn't see any 6 inch boots listed with safety toes specifically.
