You saved me a trip to the dealer. This was the exact issue on my 2008 Jeep Liberty. The dash lights were going in and out and no crank or start. I wiggled this exact wires and Jeep started up. I replaced the switch. Thank you for a short valuable video.
Dropping this here after I fixed mine: I pulled the EBL fuse, heard a click - and the jeep started right up. I put the ebl fuse back in and it started again. I went ahead and cleared codes and the cel never came back on. Going to post this on a few more videos so that other people can give this a try. EBL fuse is a 40amp.
I know this is three years old but THANK YOU. My jeep wouldn’t start before and I’ve been online trying to get some ideas of why. I was thinking the starter until I saw this. When I crank the engine I get the same result as you did in this video. Of course the jeep is starting now. But if it happens again I will try messing with the ignition switch wire. The battery is fine so j think it’s either this or the starter. Thanks again.
You might have just helped me fix my first jeep at my job. After a shit ton of work replacing exhaust manifold and steering gear and clock spring it wont start.
I wish I had found this sooner, but my issue was with a 2010 back that I traded over 3 years ago primarily because it had a recurring no-start issue that I thought had to be due to a faulty (or burned out) starter. I replaced the starter several times. I even took it to the Jeep dealer and left it with them for a month, during which time they could not replicate the issue. How it never happened to them is beyond me. Naturally, less than 24 hours of getting my vehicle back, the issue occurred at work on a Friday night. I went out the next day (after of course dealing with the issue once again by banging on the starter with a crowbar) and bought a 2017 Wrangler, praying the whole time that the dealer would not experience the no-start scenario. Too late to help me, but at least now I know.
I have a 2010 and I am having the same issue. Tried wiggling playing with the switch but didn't change anything. So, I replaced my starter, replaced the battery connectors. These were both needed replacements still had the original battery connectors and the original starter and the vehicle has over 150,000 miles on it. Works better, well at least it starts more often now 95% of the time I presume. I am noticing that at times it takes a few turns of the ignition to start it. Sometimes turning the key slower allows for ignition first turn. I hear the starter engage when I turn the key but the engine doesn't turn over sometimes. Since the engine isn't turning over it's not cycling through four strokes, I assume it's either the switch. or the actuator pin. I get radio and accessory power every time just when I go to turn the key to start it sounds like a loss of connection right after the starter engages. Had the battery tested the new connectors have good power and good ground connection and the starter is mounted properly with a good connection. Also check the relay in the fuse and they are in working order as well.
Reading the comments makes me cringe. How many have changed the starter (several times) or battery for this same problem. If you look on the fuse box lid the starter relay position is marked. Pull relay out and look at the bottom prongs. find the one marked 87 and find the hole that prong fits in and jumper 12v to that hole the starter will turn. CAUTION. make sure your key is off and transmission is in park or neutral!!!!! If the engine cranks this eliminates the starter and battery. Get someone to turn the key to on and sit holding the brake as you jumper #87 and jeep should start and get you out of a pinch.
I couldn’t figure it out.....I tried my spare key and that did the trick......I go beach a lot and always keep my key secure with me and I guess the salt water corroded the components internally that could not see.
Would you have any luck with the starting issue if you took the key out and put it back in? Mine is doing this, but when I remove the key and put it back in 9/10 times it starts right up.
Have you had the recall airbag fix it if you have it I do that first . When my airbag light come on just a couple hours security system light come on I was able to take fuses out a couple of different things and make it work for a while. I got it at the dealership now having it worked on me
My 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport manual wont crank until I pull the steering wheel hard to the right. I have to use my whole body weight to turn it hard enough to right for it to crank. Occasionally cranks turning it hard left. Frustrating. Battery is good. Getting power to everything. No mechanic that I have called has a clue. So very Frustrated.
