Thanks for the video, installed mine this morning on a 2021 JTR, laid in driveway and knocked it out. Steering is much better, really can tell when on the highway.
I installed the brace this morning in my driveway it isn’t hard. But finding the location to put the tools to tighten or loosen everything on this was a pain in the butt. Huge improvement on my JLU Rubicon with 38s.
@@shotakuervo the crazy part that happened to me is my steering wheel alignment became off when I installed the brace. That sent up all kind of lights on my dash. I have a JL Taser and read the code, cleared the code and came back on. Centered my steering wheel and fixed without clearing the code. Crazy!
Great tip with the ratchet strap on the coil. Over a year ago I installed the Synergy sector track brace but honestly was not impressed with the results. I removed the brace and had the Jeep steering box recall done. But with the new steel steering box, still feel there is some play (i.e. wander), not 100% perfect yet. I'm gonna give this a shot, see if I can dial it in some more. Great video as always.
Ya, my synergy one had issues. The sector shaft part fell off on my jlu. So I'm putting this on friday on my gladiator. In person the bearing looks better and like it will stay on.
If this came out sooner I would have gotten it over Synergy's but I couldn't wait anymore. Driving the lifted Jeep without this upgrade was becoming a chore lol.
I have seen a few vids that show the install but you are the only one that used Anti-seize on the bearing sector shaft interface. Thanks for showing that, future maintenance will be much easier!
Installed this yesterday and it definitely made a difference even more improvement than the Teraflex CT3 Apline lift with front and rear track bars had already made. So definitely worth the $$$$ I can now drive with 1 finger on the wheel. THANKS again for your helpful videos. I'm new at the Jeep stuff but coming from CANAM UTVs and 4 wheelers for 20 years to the Jeep now is a UTV for me the older crowd. Loving it with your help!
@Russ Elmy Yes I have both front and rear Teraflex adjustable track bars. I like them, but these are the only ones I have owned so I have nothing to compare them to. They make centering your axles to the frame really easy and quick. The front track bar came with my Teraflex Alpine CT3 lift so I added the rear Teraflex adjustable track bar to complete my new suspension and to square up my rear axle it was off by 1 1/8th". Now my Jeep is perfectly square in the front and rear.
Just FYI, The instructions say to torque the steering box bolts to 44ft/lbs +170 degrees and the track bar bolt should be installed backwards from back to front.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. I helped install the Synergy bracket on my friends Jeep. I bought the Steer Smart bracket from Northridge and am glad I did. Much beefier.
As im waiting on my willys n thinking I'm doing the mopar lift getting this and there track bars as well should be a great combo oh and of course steering stabilizer great job guys
Not incompatible, but you need an aftermarket trackbar like synergy with a different design to avoid hitting the brace. It should've been mentioned in this video.
@@northridgenation It goes on this Friday hopefully along with a new Factor 55 hook :-) I will try and keep you posted on my thoughts for after installed.
Is it a 42mm or 43mm socket that is needed? This video says 43 but others say 42. I need to order one because my sets don't go that large, that's why I'm asking for clarification. TY
Still cannot believe Jeep still hasn’t fixed these steering issues! Wtf!! Iv owned Jeep’s since the 90s and about done with the brand… have thrown 3 steering boxes at my jk, last one was mopar and is leaking again 🙄 bronco and rack n pinion sounds amazing …
I don't know if something's changed or what, but this thing doesn't fit my 21 Mojave worth AF. It's not just the extra piece on the Mojave. The holes don't line up when the trackbar bolt is in place. No way to get the trackbar bolt and the gearbox bolts in at the same time. Just can't be done.
Much better feel after installation and would recommend it to anyone. I guess my only real concern is how close the track bar is to the shaft brace. Seems really close and may even make contact. I’ll give it a few weeks and take a look.
I noticed some install videos use only one washer on the pitman arm. I noticed you used both. Does it matter? I was able to get both washers on and I’m running the updated steel box.
I feel that with this part installed the new steel steering gear box regarding the TSB isn't really necessary anymore but I guess it doesn't hurt to have both. I'm thinking the difference in steering feel and response will be negligible?
The aluminum steering box has quite a bit of flex through the body, so swapping to the steel box will make a big difference. The Steer Smarts brace will stabilize the sector shaft and will help keep the steering box living longer if you are running larger tires and/or hitting the trails often.
I have the steel steering box and the bracket support with 35” tires, definitely a lot more strength and support off road, on road it doesn’t matter much but I feel 100% safer when a rock pushes or pulls on my tires a certain direction with it because steel or aluminum they aren’t meant for much bigger tires under that much more force
They've updated it to fit a few small changes on the newest models. Here is the one you want: www.northridge4x4.com/part/sector-shaft/79040002-steer-smarts-yeti-xd-sector-shaft-brace-w-frame-side-track-bar-reinforcement-bracket
@@northridgenation Thanks, other question, I saw a comment that said The sector shaft brace is incompatible if I do not have a lift, my Sahara 2020 is completely stock at this time, will it work fit?
I can not get the two small bolts to line up with the sector shaft brace. It seems the Sector shaft is sitting on a angle and won't line up properly. Anyone ever have this issue? Any way to get them to line up? I've emailed steersmarts already waiting for a response but I have to have my jeep back by 7.
At this time, it's unclear what models are now coming with the steel steering box. We do know that the Diesel and Mojave models we've seen have the steel steering boxes and steel steering knuckles. We also know that the steel steering box is being swapped into some JLs and JTs with steering issues. See Service Bulletin # 08-074-20.
Mine came with an aluminum steering box and the dealer swapped it out as part of the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin). Not necessary if you're not having steering issues but I had a little too much wander in mine so I had them replace it. Later model Gladiators are now getting the steel version. Mine is a Rubicon model that I purchased back in October.
@@northridgenation Thanks for the info. I do know the Rubicon Recon edition has thicker axle tubes and heavy duty nodular diff covers, but hadn't heard about steel steering boxes. It looked like a great kit. Now I'm torn between this and the one made by Synergy.
I got my switched out at the dealer. Read the service bulletin word for word as far as the symptoms and they will swap it out. The aluminum box WILL wear out if you plan on bigger tires.
@@northridgenation All 2021 models come with the steel steering box. Aluminum steering boxes are gray in color with 2 front white bolts and darker rear bolts while the steel box are black in color with all black bolts. I just had that TSB performed(now labeled as TSB 08-003-21 which includes front end alignment) on my 2020 JLUR and also installed the Synergy bracket. Huge difference, however I do like the sealed bearing the SteerSmart has.
The bad news is NO. The sector shaft is much bigger and the brace part won't fit. The GOOD news is you really wouldn't need the steering brace after going to the Big Bore kit. It would still be a good idea to have a track bar brace though.
Just went to my local 4-wheel drive shop here in Phoenix and was told that the synergy bracket is not compatible with my 2021 Mojave because of the metal plate, wonder if you can show an install and how much do I have to trim on the metal plate in order to install this better then synergy 😅
Steer Smarts doesn't have one for the JK. However, that JKS Sector Shaft Brace is very similar: www.northridge4x4.com/part/track-bars/ogs166-jks-track-bar-and-sector-shaft-reinforcement-kit-front
@@ala8649 No, you can run the track bar you have. That bar in the system is a cross brace that goes over to the passenger frame rail for extra support.
@@northridgenation i asked steer smarts and they said they have a kit coming for the jk soon. Should i wait for steer smarts or get this from jks? Also jks kit seems a little too complicated. My thought is less parts less hassle.
@@ala8649 If SteerSmarts has a kit coming for the JK, wait for it. Their JL/JT kit is really nice and easy to install. we haven't heard anything about their JK kit yet. Will do a video when they become available.
Negative ghost rider, the pattern is full. Definitely not a ripoff - they've had a track bar reinforcement bracket for a couple years now, they just decided to offer a better option for consumers than what was currently being offered. That's like saying a tie rod or drag link is a rip-off of the factory component even though the aftermarket offerings are beefier and offer more benefits in every way.
