@@karledwards Yes of course. It doesn't have felt pads. Those could added or you could lay it on a piece of felt. I prefer the felt since the board looks great when folded and pads would detract visually.

@@ChessHouse I own a few old Drueke boards and, while I haven't laid hands on these JLP's, they seem to look just as sweet.

It doesn't scratch very easily. But it does need care yes.

The squares appear through the board because of the hardwood block construction. This means there is not a core with veneer on it like many boards these days. The hardwood construction has a tongue and groove pattern that is glued inside for exceptional strength. The only real damage that can happen is impact or scratching. In some rare cases when the board is now, the live nature of the wide can cause slight warping, but can correct itself over time - if it does appear. With any wood on wood surface there is risk of scratching if a hard particle was to get between the surfaces while it moves. That's why the soft underlayment. You can of course just make sure the surface is wiped in lieu of this. The pieces are an India rosewood that is very dark in color, not blood rosewood though. This dark rosewood isn't available any more from mainstream market sources.

It's actually a very high quality board, solid hardwood, handcrafted. You'd have to touch and feel it to appreciate it. But I can understand your concern.
