She wasn't underrated by the generation growing up in the 90s. We still love her and listen to her. They just don't make country music like they use to.
It amazes me that people are always saying someone is underrated especially when the singer has won awards. Jo Dee received two Grammy nominations, has won a ACM award, three Boston music awards and a CMA award. There are several of us who still listen to her. She was not underrated. 😀
My first wife past away in 99 Before this song came out She would ask me, Do you burn for me? I would tell her yes for the rest of our lives together. She told me to always burn for her no matter what. when I hear this song the memory of her when she asked me to burn for her comes to the top of my mind. When my kids were babies I would listen to this and I would think of them as adults and their dreams. Today they are 24, 19, and 16. I'm literally watching them becoming what I was only dreaming of all those years ago. JoDee is amazing the way she can touch lives with music.
I saw her live in 2019, right after she lost her mom. Even though she was battling a cold and dealing with such a tragedy, she was a force to be reckoned with.

I dedicated this son to my son shortly after he was born in March 2008 - I would sit in my chair and rock him, feed him, love him - and sing this to him. I never could sing just right because my voice shaked so badly from the overwhelming emotions and love I had and still have for him. I want him to LOVE his life, LIVE his life and be all he can be - this song expresses my heart more than my own words could ever say - I want him to thrive and strive to be the best of anything and everything he could be. I love you sweetheart. You are growing up so fast - and I still sing this to you....and my voice still shakes.

The first part that is in her lower register is AMAZING. Her lows have a nasal projection that is just unique. She has a unique and soulful projection in all register, but I really like the lower stuff. The later parts that are up in her power range are even more amazing.
I adore this song! it still gives me goosebumps. Someone mentioned her in a comment on another video, and I rushed to find this. I wish country music wouldn't discard great artists like this to make room for others to sometimes exploit and then throw away also.
I heard this song last summer and thought, "I want my daughter to hear this song" then it hit me, I need to hear this message as much as my daughter. I made a lot of changes in my life starting that day and while I haven't gotten it all figures out yet, I'm on a much better path.

I have 2 kids going off to different universities, in opposite directions, & one going off next year. They have grown up hearing me sing this to them in the high moments & the low. I would do ANYTHING for my kids. My kids have overcome a lot and are ready for new adventures in life. So, to the therapist who told my husband and I to place them residential therapy living/schooling, after being diagnosed with autism... my kids made it, because the are smart, capable, have a good support system & will not be told what their limitations will be! They made it through regular high school, in regular classes & will be anything but regular in life. Blessings flow down from God.
