Personal Note : My Mom was 21 y/o in 1940, when she auditioned for Tommy Dorsey , as he & his orchestra came to Denver, to Elitch Gardens Ballroom. He was looking for a female singer who he wanted to join a male trio, to be called The Pied Pipers . Mom was a natural contralto, but she had range to Mezzo Soprano. The song she chose, was a new one, called " Lullabye In Rhythm". Well, as it happened, Mr Dorsey ended up going with a young woman, a natural soprano, who had left her 2 sisters, to go out on her own. HER name, was Jo Stafford, & Tommy chose her, because her soprano was effortless, & contrasted vocally with the 3 men she'd sing with. So for Mom, " Lullabye In Rhythm ", was a very special song for her. When Jo & The Dots came on & sang it in '61, Mom began singing along, just as if it was 1940. She was 42 y/o then, & though she smoked far too much, when motivated, she could still do it whenever she chose to. I can still see her sitting in her chair, with tears coming down her face, singing along . Watching this, takes me back to that moment. I was 14, heading to 15 y/o that 9/24. ------------------MJL
Thank-you so much for bringing this back to YT ! This song has very poignant memories, as i remember seeing this, with my Mom, as she was singing along, note-for note, word for word. I can still see her singing along , with tears running down her cheeks. As a 21 y/o on, this was one of her very favorite songs to sing , & here she was, doing it again. -----------I was 14 y/o, heading to 15, mom was 42 y/o.
Lullabye in Rhythm ---------a classic 30's swing tune. Jo & the Dots , with Paul Weston's orchestra give it an updated 60's rendition. Jo loved to sing with a group--------the Pied Pipers-------the Dots-----& The Starlighters--------singing along with her . RIP to Jo, Paul, & The Dots. --------MJL, 76 y/o
Thank you & bless you for returning this to youtube. Someone posted it several years ago & then it strangely disappeared/was deleted. It's one of my all-time favorites. Heavenly.
