@@crunchnmunchsweettreats that because everyone is Izone dropped weight at an alarming rate, I am surprised Wonyoung didnt look as thin then as she does now, after her debut with IVE.
@@crunchnmunchsweettreats no they mean that fact that wounyoung has gotten extremely thin with her debut in ive she and its very obvious within ber legs and this is coming from someone who is quite literally the same age as her (ok 2 weeks older but still) and i have a lot of muscle on my legs even though i probably dance way less them she does
Honestly I'm glad you did this one, because people always said that Iz*one was a group who didn't diet and OTR wasn't pushing them, they put out a huge amount of food related content, yet the girls got progressively thinner and half the members are some of the skinniest people in the industry. They were my bias group and it was kind of painful to watch. I think that Yuri probably felt a lot of extra pressure because she and Chaewon were considered the most likely "rigged" members. The only thing that I would mention is that a lot of Yuri's change between Idol school to Iz*one is partially surgery as well as the weight loss on top of it.
Wait until you guys see one of the members from her group IZONE…. Especially Hitomi, she really was the thinnest idol in the industry to ever exist. She definitely triggered a lot of people with eating disorders & anorexia. After the whole rigging scandal, she came back alarmingly thin as ever. She also seemed like she was going through a lot since she is a foreign member from Japan. Seriously, she was skinnier than Wonyoung & Yuri combined. It was so scary to see a beautiful girl wither away because of the harsh & strict korean beauty standards they force on young girls.
@@karinaaii hey i’m not disagree with them went through diet during their post activity but the main reason of tomi losing weight was bc she diagnosed with a disease called Gluten intolerant and it was hard for her to gain weight at that time, i hope you understand and stop with the wrong narrative bc if it’s hard for ppl to see her losing weight it’s definitely harder at her side.
@@keodavan5922 Having a gluten intolerance doesn’t make you lose that much weight… Also, a lot of her members would frequently tell her she needed to eat more because her diet consisted of literally just seaweed soup & yogurt to lose weight
@@karinaaii i don’t understand why you need to involve members here and every disease effect ppl body in different ways, also tomi said herself that she feels uncomfortable when ppl talking about her weight she clarified that pls stop concern about that bc she’s eating well and instead talking about her improvement more. You can keep going on and thank you for your concern but if ppl tell you that they feel uncomfortable abt specific topic, i hope you know the boundaries too.
if only the rest of us could do that... we would be so much more happier. Are her parents rich? How did she have the luxury to drop out of school? For most of us that would be impossible because our parents want us to have a steady job that will make good money. How lucky, she could drop out of school, and achieve her dream. Good for her. She worked hard. I wish I could do that too.
@@katgreer6113 her parents were very poor, she had to work for herself to be able to buy a piano by herself since her dream was to be a singer, sadly she had to sacrifice her studies but she succeeded
I'm glad Moonbyul told her that it was healthy for her to gain weight. There's so much pressure on idols to weigh a certain number that their health often gets neglected or treated as the less important factor. It must also matter doubly so hearing it come from a senior idol too, because they understand your struggles so much more intimately than us nerds just speculating on the internet.
In my local region, IZ*ONE were referred to as "마른원" the girls were so thin. Our community was extremely concerned, especially for Wonyeong and Hitomi, but all the girls looked malnourished and exhausted. When I would try and express concern to ifans, thinking they were more reasonable since they don't diet like we do, I was told "you shouldn't body shame them" and "it's their life" "You don't know what goes on". I'm glad you're talking about it, because you can see and hear Yuri talking differently and saying "I have more stamina" and things
I’ve been skinny shamed the majority of my life and, while yes, there are idols who have been, K Pop fans need to get real. They know damn well that’s not why people are discussing Wonyoung and Hitomi and whoever else’s weight, because we have photographic proof of what they looked like prior to weight loss, these aren’t the same cases as idols who are just more naturally thin and have maintained that thinness. There’s literally a video of Wonyoung pretending to eat- if other fans want to shut themselves off from reality and shirk ethical responsibility, fine, that’s their prerogative, but the constant silencing of those fans who express concern over drastic weight losses is ridiculous. Not to mention, there’s a big difference between body shaming and genuine concern, and these irresponsible fans know that, they just have no spine. My apologies for the rant, and in case it wasn’t clear I agree with you 100%. 👍🏻👍🏻
The fact that the company had them put out a broadcast with massive portions of food, but then only allowed them to eat negligible amounts is so cruel..
i thought yuri looked healthier and more energetic and confident in this comeback, but now seeing everything laid out in a timeline like this, i'm totally bowled over by just how thin she was. i hope she can continue to gain confidence and happiness with herself as she grows as a soloist. still my favorite vocal color in kpop after all these years. 💕
They don't even look like they're really enjoying the food because they know they can't actually eat. The way they look at their food before it enters their mouths makes me feel like all they're thinking about is the calories
This was an interesting analysis... also i feel after the scandal (3:25) most of the members started to loose weight, it was a really bad era for them since they had to deal with hate comments everyday, including comments about their appearence.
I never kept up with IZ*ONE outside of listening to their music, so I had no idea they had that food vlogging. It's insane how little they were allowed to eat! It's clearly too little for them, but I also will never understand WHY companies make these type of ''food vlogs'' where they give idols plates paced full of food, just for them to never actually eat it and just waste it (or give it to staff)? They didn't even try to hide the fact that they were eating very small portions of food from fans, as if its normal. Quite sad to see. I have been loving Jo Yuri's solo work, and actually was a wondering whether or not she has always been that skinny after watching her solo stages, but as a casual IZ*ONE fan I just assumed it might be natural. Seeing this video now, I understand why fans were and are worried for her. I just hope the members overall have a healthier relationship with food, cause this was way too excessive, and seeing Yuri maintain the weight is a bit worrisome. I hope she realizes that its not necessary.
I know it's not about her, but I'm sad how harsh Mamamoo's company was on Moonbyul. 9:38 So unfair how hard they made their diet to be thin unlike the other members :( She seems to have had a lot of eras where she wasn't allowed to eat a lot
@@antant25 yea they don’t now but before they debuted they had to diet in order to debut. And she wouldn’t eat much plus she didn’t leave her house to not get tempted in order to loose weight. And because of this her metabolism changed and now instead of eating less for a comeback she has to eat more because she looses weight during promotions.
I had never realised how thin the girls were getting I saw the side by side comparison. I’m sad that they have to push themselves so much to the point of extreme diets. Hopefully now Yuri and all the Izone members (and their respective groups) can bless us with more songs. Wizone forever ❤️
Could you please do a video about BVNDIT‘s Seungeun. In the past she’s been extremly thin and people either bashed her or were convinced that she was naturally skinny. She’s been in multiple videos of idols being worringly skinny. Since BVNDIT‘s latest comeback Seungeun has put on quite some weight. Would be really interesting to see you cover this in a video.
Exactly, when they came back with Fiesta I was shocked at how much thinner they got. Then unbelievably, they got thinner all the way up to Panorama. Seeing Yuri even thinner at the time of her solo debut was just mind shock. So happy she's looking healthier this comeback and with more energy.
jo yuri is already so perfect,i'm sure she will be successful the public has a taste for her i myself love her and am always listening to her music, she works really hard missed your videos glad you're back 😉
the major whiplash before it even got to the 1 minute mark 😩 haven't kept up with idol formation shows in years for a myriad of reasons, so was really anticipating this one. from what ive heard, the treatment has only gotten worse smfh beautiful girl, hope she stays well and takes care edit: watching the cooking and "eating" segment was so triggering, man... i feel for them fr edit 2: unrelated to the topic, but actually really surprised that Glassy did poor compared to her recent release ??? Glassy is still one of my most played tracks rn. Interesting
Honestly i dont understand the response to a lot of recent releases, i loved glassy and it also seemed like a song korean fans would like but apparently not?
@@IndianaJonas96 Righttt??! that's exactly what i thought as well. Maybe it's because they're having their wave of "noise" music again (no shade at all- I listen to literally everything lol). I think it definitely would've charted higher a few years ago, circa early gfriend days
The dieting culture in kpop is why did many idols had undiagnosed eating disorders :( going on like 6 years of recovering the portioning, the small bites of food, and constantly being like “oh I’ll give it away” is like,,, all ways to show that you’re “eating” because most people aren’t observant on that kinda behavior.
Honestly, the way that losing weight and dieting is becoming so normalized/already normalized is scary. Many of the idols nowadays are teens (even some are kids *just* entering the teen stage) to young adults. I really hope dieting culture stops it will severely affect them later on and their mental health‼️
I wanted IZ*ONE to last longer. But I am very happy that she has become this great singer that she is today and she is a great inspiration to many people♥️
wow... unbelievable! my heart just can't take how there's obvious double standard in idols. Girls are always pressured to look perfect act perfect diet until they die and dehydrated. How can someone survive like that... it's their job to stay fit but you can stay fit while eating normally with exercise. Imagine gaining 1 pound and you are out to a quarantine something like that to exercise all day.. wow! the mental and physic health of this female idols🤦♀️🥺
@@stray2202 but for girls it's like mandatory. For boys it's to build them more muscles that's why they have to eat a lot. There's only a few male idols who go on a strict diet to maintain their abs and muscles.
@@dgds24 that's def not true. Plenty of male idols feel super pressured to look good too. There are a lot of male idols who go on crazy diets to maintain their figure. They feel pressured to either be super skinny or super buff and building muscle is pretty hard. It's probably really hard to build muscle with an idol schedule! We also see a lot of male idols being fat shamed too! Double standards exist but not in this case.
I think yuri has always been on the thin side, even when she was 15 (I'm aware she may have been on a diet at the time but I don't know.) To me, she looks stronger when she gained a little bit more weight in 2018-2019 (her legs especially.) I feel sad for what she has gone through and I can only begin to understand the stress she was under during Panorama or Glassy era. I wish the best for one of my favorite kpop vocalists, a hard working idol (her dance improvement is amazing,) and a silly but loving personality. We should continue to support this comeback and future comebacks!
I am honestly so surprised that Yuri has undergone such a drastic weight loss transformation. Throughout the whole trajectory of her career, I had not noticed those changes. It just shows that amidst the bubblegum glamor and glory, K-pop idols have to endure a tremendous amount of pressure to fit a certain beauty standard and maintain it. People always wonder how these idols appear so picture-perfect on stage and in real life. It is not because they are born with that physique and form. They have to mold themselves with rigorous and highly restrictive diets to project this socially acceptable public image. But because different people require different diets and exercise regimens, these idols often become malnourished, meaning underweight. So, it can impact their mental health and self-perception of their body image and weight. As a person with body image issues, I can only imagine what most K-pop idols are going through because of the influence of diet culture and pressure to conform to societal beauty standards. I am glad she has gained some weight and confidence because this mental health issue not only affects idols' physical appearance but also is a complex, psychiatric mental health issue as well.
I hope these idols come to realize that dieting doesn’t equal starving yourself :( For example: Boo Seungkwan of SVT used to go on harsh diets but eventually he learned that he can still eat meats and protein and everything and stuff he just balances it out with good exercising and is at a healthy weight now :).
I never followed Izone but of course with their popularity I saw posts about them a lot. I noticed how tiny they seemed to be getting, but as an outsider it didn't seem like my place to comment. The clip at 7:14 really got me. I used to buy a 5 lb bag of gummies and ration it for weeks because I wanted so desperately to be thin. I ended up needing surgery because I gave myself a hernia from the stress my body was under. It's making me tear up to think of the added pressure she had, knowing exactly how hard it was to feel okay at the time.
The eating shows make me angry: 1. The girls are probably starving themselves and the company/staff decide that for good content they can put TONS of delicious food in front of the girls which they can’t eat in PEACE and only a few bites… c’mon, that is so sad, they are so young. 2. Some people, mostly teens, that watch that show might think: “They eat so well and yet they’re skinny” not knowing what goes behind the scenes and that can lead to an ED.
Sorry what? 92.5 pounds, I feel a little bit sick. Poor girl, I hope she gets to eat whatever she wants and feel happy and free with food one day. That girl deserves everything.
it makes it look like they’re eating a lot to the average viewer. you have to pay attention closely to the editing and background in order to notice that they’re not actually eating it.
agree with what the person above me said...also, it takes some heat off of companies as then fans will think their favs are eating well in a company-sponsored series or video (in reality, they're not eating well at all)
i always thought the idols took a break off of their diet for days like this,i guess it may still be true for some, also the portion aren't usually that big
@@nathyf.1467 honestly most people cannot reach such low weight healthily. I doubt a professional would recommend a diet to make them so underweight. K-pop is so obsessed with being extremely thin that at this point I'm convinced that most female idols have eating disorders Gaining and losing 30lbs between promotion is not normal for most people.
When people will understand that if you work out you lose fat but gain muscle. Thus same weight but not same appearance. Plus, at some point your body stop losing weight just to save you and massively regain when you start esting again
@@ShihTzuVideosTV I think you are reading into things too much or your English comprehension isn’t very good. They never said any of those things, they didn’t even mention the word fit nor did they give any opinion on it (good, bad, healthy,etc.). They simply explained that when you work out a lot (which idols do) that you lose fat and gain muscle. This results in your weight not changing but your appearance doing so. This means that weight is not a good indicator of losing fat.
Bruh I thought I was the only one who noticed... like in her solo debut, her body literally looked like of a child's, I wonder how she looks like in real life
they are idols. the idol industry is different from an simple artist industry. in korea idols are at the bottom of the totem pole because they arent exactly considered real artists and only top groups are familiar with koreans.
Its insane of how many kpop stans make themselves believe that their idols are naturally skinny ,like they say this for EVERY idol that looks unhealthy. Like I feel like when idols say they eat a lot, they don't mean it they just don't want the public to look in to it,like itzy for example ,yuna came out saying she eats a lot but I'm not too sure about that, I feel like companies have so many secrets buried we don't know about
They’re all in an industry that normalizes food restriction, even “naturally skinny” people restrict their intake, so I always take comments form idols saying they eat a lot with a grain of salt. I mean, Yuna can absolutely think she eats a lot of she compares her diet with her peers that, sometimes, don’t eat at all. She could just be eating a small portion, but even so, eating, which might sound like a lot to her or her members.
You can hardly call a lot of these kpop diets just that, it's starving as there's no nutritional value or nutritional intake as it's extremely restrictive and all to loose the most amount of weight in the shortest amount of time. Long term I bet if prolonged it could potentially have massive health complications, we've already seen idols fainting on stage or preforming with less energy amongst other things. Another factor is it's paving the way for e*ting d*sorders, not just the lack of food or food restrictions but also the constant weight checking. They have such packed schedules and difficult choreographies, they need a healthy nutritional intake of food. 🙃
I never really got into many girl groups beyond listening to their music other than mamamoo and while I was aware of dieting being prevalent in the industry, I never realized how much until watching these types of videos. It's honestly sad to think about how much of a hold it has, that it seems to be a part of their day-to-day lives. Also, somewhat unrelated, but I think an idol that could be mentioned when talking about extreme weight/ noticeable change in weight is Lee Daehwi of Wanna One/Ab6ix, as throughout being in Wanna One/ near the beginning of Ab6ix he was known for being very thin, as seen in a show champion behind they measured his waist, which ended up being around (17?) inches and in an ab6ix interview near their debut they remeasured it and it was something around 20. However, awhile after their debut, during promotions for what I believe was "the answer" it's said he began working out, and now he looks to have gained some weight/muscle. edit: the whole group looks kinda thin during their debut so maybe they dieted a lot then idk
@@soseiquenadasei2156 the thing is, who wouldn't lose weight in her position? The amount of Mcing, modeling, advertisment on top of group promotions probably barelly give her any time to rest, even less to properly eat. Her portions are definitelly small looking at the behind the scene (blogs etc of IVE), but that is probably something that got stuck with her from her Izone days. She was a 13 year old impressionable kid back then and picked up on the things that others did, thinking that this was the correct thing/way of managing your weight...she is just getting scarilly thin as time goes by imo, that I am honestly starting to worry for her wellbeing. What maked this even worse is that, as I said, some people are denying her weight loss and even glorifying her body, saying that she is body goals, etc
Hi,i like your videos and analysis a lot. i will ask you that can you please make a video about jang wonyoungs weight loss journey.A lot people are concerned about her weightloss. If you make a video like this,it will solve everyone’s questions. I will be waiting for the video!!
Seems like idol school did that on purpose. Letting them eat then having those weighs where they were shamed. It would embarrass the girls and then it would make it seem like they were the ones that pushed themselves to lose weight.
It’s so scary to think how much diet culture is enforced upon these kids in survival shows. It’s insane. Imagine if The Voice or American Idol made this a priority for success. Just imagine. How is being unhealthy a part of being talented? Or accepted by the public?
after the early 2020 scandal, ALL the izone girls had lost so much weight that it was so obvious in fiesta comeback. it gave them so much stress and sadness for 4 months. they should write a book one day ten years from now to tell what they went through (same as x1)
Ok I've an opinion.... A person's hairstyle has a lot to do about this. I've seen female kpop idols use bangs very liberally. 90% of women have bangs atleast once in their career, it doesn't matter it suits them or not. Bangs don't suit round face or chubby cheeks but stylists seem to forget this. And that makes them look chubbier. Styling goes a long way in this.
Yeah the way they style roundness in kpop is unbelievable to me sometimes, it always looks like they're just trying to hide them as much as they can but it always has the opposite effect
@@amfgvideos2517 Wow, you were fast in reuploading! Thanks a bunch. How come sometimes your videos will randomly disappear (like the IOI/DIA Chaeyeon video before)?

It's so messed up to me how Idol School weighed those girls every morning. I always gain about 2lbs when my period comes simply from water weight. I'm sure the same can be even more so for teenagers going thru puberty. Not to mention the potential obsessions your instilled in formative young brains
It feels so strange to me that a talent competition would be investigated by the police for voting manipulation. I think in the US it's just kind of assumed that most shows like this are not entirely above board
I'm always shocked to hear the weights of some of these idols. Yuri is a little bit taller than me, and I was around 93lbs at my thinnest and I thought I looked so thin and sickly. Tho she doesn't look as thin as I was when I was that weight, but she's taller than me ? It confuses me always how their weights are so low and yes they are very thin but how are they not sickly...I think maybe they exaggerate their weights sometimes. Because at least for me, 92lbs at 5'3" I was very underweight and malnourished. Either way I just wish it was normal for these idols to have normal healthy bodies and weights 😭
I hate it that people love to see idols eating as they are cute, but at the same time, they have to stay slim. WTF~ It is painful to think that they eat it as it is very delicious because their chance to eat is very rare too
diet is not always important health is, its ok to gain a lil fat... but the pressure is no joke that they go crazy with diet... i hope she eats well and perform happily, bcz i still stan every single member from IZ*ONE and i'll forever support them~
