Joan Bibiloni is a revered Mallorcan guitarist who rose to prominence in the 1980s. Releasing his first single at the tender age of 15, Joan went on to form the Spanish prog-rock group Zebra and Euterpe in his twenties. It was through this group where he would meet Pepe Milan, later becoming the bluesy folk duo 'Milan & Bibiloni'.
Throughout his distinguished career, Bibiloni would collaborate with musicians such as Larry Coryell, Daevid Allen and John Cage to name a few.
In 1982 Bibiloni set up his own label Blau, in order to highlight share the local musical talent on his beloved Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands.
Whilst Bibiloni's first solo releases on his Blau imprint has stronger echoes of contemporary Jazz fusion of the time, it is on the album known as 'Una Vida Llarga I Tranquila' where Bibiloni really began to experiment with new sounds and technologies; fusing tape loops, drum machines and synthesizers.
Joan Biblioni's album ‘El Sur’ set out to highlight a unique ambient fusion and sun-drenched Mediterranean beach boogie. Ray Mang's edit of 'Boogie' from this album had been circulating for some time in the disco edit world. 'The Boogie' is an infectious disco song fusing Ray Mang's signature high-quality Nu-disco production with Joan's original recording, which has a spicy flamenco solo interwoven in the track!
We approached Joan and Ray Mang to see if they would like to release this officially to the world. They did and Disc-o-lypso then comissioned another reworking by Ray Mang to compliment 'the Boogie'
With the second track, 'Val, I Wuv Ya', we enter into a more Balearic state of mind.
