Languages are so important. In every country I've lived, speaking the local language has helped me a LOT. Not just in jobs, but also to get connected easier with locals. An important note you made and something I keep repeating too is: it takes EFFORT, but it's doable. Don't ever give up and keep trying. If you need to send out 50 applications, then DO it! Just don't give up! :) Happy Journey to everyone, Rachel Smets

Thank you, Rachel. I'm going to move to Austria next year with my fiance and I *really* need to find a proper job... I'm very afraid, but I'm sure we'll find something for me.
@publicaccess7417
@publicaccess7417 2 года назад
I don't agree, if you are foreign looking in a particular country and speak the language or try to speak the local language, they'll laugh at you even more and shame you for it. So when foreign looking there's nothing you can do to fit in so there's no point in even trying because when you do you get ridiculed for it even more
@RachelSmets
@RachelSmets 2 года назад
@@publicaccess7417 Interesting how I'm traveling around the world and also have lived in so many countries and always ALWAYS try to speak the local language and ALWAYS have been treated so kindly and seeing people really appreciate I try.
@publicaccess7417
@publicaccess7417 2 года назад
@@RachelSmets Rachel it's not interesting at all it's sad. They naturally treat you with respect because you're not an ethnic. If you're an ethnic they don't want nor expect you to speak nothing more than English. So if you're ethnic, just better to speak English. Therefore if you're ethnic it's pointless to speak their language, it just makes thing worse than they already are for you. They'll shame you for it and speak back to you in English anyways and they will always remind ridicule you that you are that pathetic foreigner that will never ever fit in with them. So it's better to just play your part and stick to English when you you're a foreigner, it doesn't really matter much anyways, because someone somewhere always speaks English anyways. So yeah, basically in another words, what I'm saying is is that people are always going to make you trying in life absolutely pointless no matter what you do if your skin color is anything but white.

This is so relevant for me! I just graduated from the Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien and am currently looking for a job here in Austria. I have strong work experience in corporate retail but only B2 level German, or C1 with many grammar mistakes :D. I'll second Anol's question: What level of German do you think most companies expect from applicants? Will companies ask for ÖSD tests as proof of knowledge? I'm excited to follow your channel for more great tips!
@PetraBotekova
@PetraBotekova 5 лет назад
B2 is great. What jobs are you looking for? I'm sure you will improve your German to C1 very quickly once you start working. I don't think companies necessarily look for certificates. I think it comes down to the overall impression you make during the first interview. So make sure to have your CV checked by a native speaker so that you get invited to as many interviews as possible :)
