What little I know is TK is an operator (Iraq, Afghanistan) and professional fighter, while JW was a commander of operators (TF Bronco, although he may have gone on missions in Iraq (and Liberia), and a trainer of fighters. I'm a 48 yr old guy who wishes that Jocko was in my life 30 years ago. I had aspirations of becoming a SEAL in high school and had actually signed up for service in my junior year. 20 Jan 1990 my school bus driver was high on cocaine and marijuana one morning and crashed the bus. It jacked me up pretty bad and I was issued an administrative discharge because of my injuries. I often wonder how my life would have been if I could have gotten the opportunity to get into BUDS. I used to tell a younger kid that looked up to me about the SEALs and how I wanted to be able to join. I guess it sunk into his mind because after he graduated 6 years later he joined the Navy and became a SEAL. He was a scrawny little kid that I protected from bullies and now he is my protector lol. Thanks for the Jocko Podcast. I'm definitely hooked!!!!

This podcast sparked the initial idea in my head of joining the military. I spent my childhood in martial arts schools, but always wanted to fight for a good cause and never knew where to go. I didn’t know anything about Special Forces, and upon watching this a while ago, did research and realized that I was meant to go that route. I am finishing my freshman year of college, joining the army, spending the next three years getting my degree and getting as prepared as possible physically and mentally, then I’ll try to go Green Beret. To Tim, Jocko, and Echo. Thank you. You helped me discover what I was meant to do, and one day I will thank you all in person. Whether or not that endeavor is successful, it will be an experience unlike any other.

+Dane Rusticus -- Now that I just got done listening to it, I'm speechless. I honestly have no idea what to say, and yet I feel compelled to at least try. To say that was easily the best podcast I've ever listened to wouldn't do this episode any justice, but it was easily the best. To be more accurate, however, would be to say that this was the best dialogue between two extraordinary men I've ever heard in my life. The energy was palpable even through the computer screen. Two amazing warriors, each a master at their craft, coming together to share with the world their accrued wisdom and their dynamic personalities. A humble exchange, free of any ego or comparisons or competition, between two extraordinary human beings. Men like these two will inspire other men to be better men. They are inspirational enough on their own, individually, but together here in this podcast their inspirational qualities were amplified and intensified in a powerful synergy that I fear doing a disservice to, because I haven't the ability with words to properly describe it. Human beings are absolutely amazing animals, and these two men show us just how amazing our innate potential really is. Men such as these give me hope for the future of our species on this beautiful planet. Keep being doing what you do, guys. Keep being you.

They are a bit delusional about what USA is. USA is a country with millions of people without access to health system. USA is a country that finances coups in foreign democracies like Iran in 1953 just to control their petrol. USA is the only country in the planet that droped atomic bombs in foreign soil. USA is a country with life expectancy lower than poor countries like Cuba. USA is a dangerous country that spies to their allies in Europe. USA is a country with millions in huge debts, living in a car or under a bridge despite having a job. As a matter of fact, they have to have two or 3 jobs to survive. USA is not an example to any other country. Regards from Spain( Europe).

@@jorgemarbur 1. Healthcare isn’t free, because healthcare workers, staff, buildings, etc. aren’t free. Even if you call it “free” in other countries, the funding comes from taxes, which comes from people. 2. All countries of power fund other military groups strategically. The US looks after it’s best interests because that’s what our enemies are doing. 3. USA dropped atomic bombs because the enemy refused to stop the war. We ALSO rebuilt every country we’ve ever been in conflict with, better than it was before, with OUR tax revue dollars! 4. The us life expectancy is 80... Spain is 83. You’re splitting hairs. 5. All countries have spies. Ref. Above. 6. No... people don’t work three jobs here to avoid living under a bridge. If you’ve heard that you’ve got bad information. If you can’t find a job in the US, you aren’t looking! People end up living under a bridge bc they are either addicts, lazy, alcoholics, etc. Government programs such as food stamps, housing, etc exist for this reason. So get out of here with that nonsense! People aren’t rushing Spain’s border by the tens of thousands! They’re rushing the US border! Why?! Because AMERICA IS AWESOME!!!! 🇺🇸 🦅 💥

The US doesn't look after their citizens' interest but the interests of a few. 3. Don't rewrite history. There was no need to drop atomic bombs in Japan. Neither to drop chemical bombs in Syria by the USA. You don't rebuild nothing. Look at Afghanistan, leaving the country to ISIS and look at Iraq. 4. Don't lie, life expectancy of Spain 82, US is 77. Cuba is 78. 5. All countries have spies. Not to spy on allies like Germany. But I know why US spied Merkel, to find out that the relations between Germany and Russia were great. That is why US decided to stir problems between Ukraine and Russia. US likes to do that, to finance dictators, the Taliban and coups all over the planet. Bingo. This idiot country has gone from one extreme to the other: During the '70's after Vietnam, if you were in any branch of the military back then, it was "Eew, what's wrong with you," plus since we all had to have long hair back then, it was bad enough the way anyone in the military stuck-out back then. Fast forward to now, with all of the "perception management" done by the U.S. gov't and DOD (Military shows at football games, retired generals cheerleading the war, etc), military people and veterans now are outright fetishized.

Now that I just got done listening to it, I'm speechless. Keep doing what you do, guys. Keep being you.

I know I'm about 4 years late to this party but this is a great interview. I'm in 53 they're talking about women in the role of getting through selection for SF or even seals. As of last week a female just completed Green Beret selection. Question is was it scale back for her. I had a friend whose daughter wanted to go be at bombtech. Obviously pretty dangerous job. The suit weighed almost as much as her as she could not complete the task in the proper time limit wearing the suit and yet they passed her. What kind of sense does that make? So they can say that they have a woman in and through the program. That's just going to get somebody killed. I have a son who is a 6 ft 5 in 220 lb infantryman with designs and going through either ranger or SF selection and I sure as hell want the person to his left and right to be strong enough to get him at a harm's way should something happen to him. I don't care what anybody tells me but some 5 ft 4 in, 135 lb woman's not going to be able to do that

I’m L/E for past 26yrs and your spot on. It is frustrating as hell when some of us understand and believe in the “mission” and train appropriately to be prepared for everything from the mundane to frustrating to downright deadly. While balancing going back to families after shift and reverting to father, mother, sibling or a parents child. Sadly too many others just treat it as a paycheck and just a “job.”

@@jameso6404 is there any concurrent training? Yearly training? Is there anything other than the initial academy for officers to sharpen their skills or is it all optional on their own time? I think that’s the problem. It would be too hard to mandate a federal standard across the nation for concurrent training, so doesn’t it fall on the individual departments to keep their guys trained? There has to be yearly high stress/shoot training. Military combat arms does it monthly if not weekly when not deployed.

Their take on law enforcement is so incredibly accurate. It's always been a tough job but in today's society, it takes a special person to step out into their community, suit up and protect and serve. Mad respect for the ones who still do. People aren't applying to be cops like they used to. Too high of a risk of going to jail, being sued, bring hated a getting killed, compared to years ago.

@@artofvalor9396 you are misinformed. Most offricers never fire their weapon or are under any real threat in an entire career. Not to say it never happens, it does. @@mctransportation9831 I'm very informed. Worked at a fire department in a very small city down south. I've seen first hand what police officers go through. I've done ride alongs in the past. The danger they face is very real. The radio calls they respond to and the unknown. I've seen multiple instances where an officer was shot at, assaulted or de-escalated a situation to where they didn't have to use force. Most officers are well trained and actually Dave their own asses multiple times throughout their careers. If course that stuff doesn't make the news. The times they face danger to where other people are running scared. I highly recommend doing a ride along at your local department and/or speaking with an officer and asking him/her what kind of crazy stuff they've seen. The general populace just doesn't get it. To them it's Barney Fyffe Mayberry all the time and it's an easy going, chill ass job. Get involved. Ride with them for a few shifts and see what they respond to on a regular basis, even in smaller cities. You'd be amazed. People like to down play the danger cops face as just another way of bashing law enforcement.

Really appreciative for you doing these podcasts. It gives combat vets an opportunity to listen to others with similar experiences and how they have processed their experiences. It also gives civilians an opportunity to try to understand the mindset of combat vets. I served as a NON-Combatant civilian assigned to the Navy/Marines based out of Panama in the late 80s early 90s. Several times I worked with NSWU-8 and SBU 26 as well as several Marine units. My area of operation was from Honduras to Colombia. After five years I came back to the US and had a hard time reintegrating. I was suffering ptsd and as I said, I was a non combatant. So I can’t imagine how difficult it is for combat soldiers and vets! That period of my life changed me drastically. It led me to read the Bible which educated me about Christianity. That’s how I dealt with it. I ended up back in Nicaragua working in the slums, dumps and a refugee camp building shelters, feeding children and training gang kids to weld. Interestingly, the majority of the people I served were Sandinistas which were the enemy. You can call it healing or putting things to rest or whatever, but making peace with my enemies and learning to love them as Jesus said is what sorted my life out.
