I'm almost 40. This song was 30 years ago believe it or NOT... I remember like yesterday when this song came out in the early 90's. 1991' I believe. Yeah, I was like 9, 10. One of the best songs of that time! Certified CLASSIC!!
This was the beginning of the legacy of the legendary group Jodeci. This song ruled the charts at number one for multiple weeks and it was a sign of more number one hits to come. Kc, Jojo, Devante; The talented producer and keyboard /piano player and Dalvin. The two sets of Brothers that made up Jodeci. For those who don't know; Devante was responsible for hits by Tupac, Missy and Timberland, Genuine, Playa, usher and so many more. Devante is the one that is imitating the keyboard playing in the video They decided to take a break in the mid-90s to do other projects. KC and JoJo went on to make hits separate from Jodeci. Including "All my life". No other group was on their level at all.
Al B Sure wrote this song after his girl at the time (the late Kim Portter 🙏🏽🕊) had their son (Quincy Brown (Power Book 3, he plays the producer guy ...who was also co parented with Puff Daddy) this song (along with everything Jodeci) was IT in the 90s!! Jodeci "Cry For You" is everything!!
I love jodeci, but truth is Al b sure only wrote a couple of lyrics, if you listen to jodeci forever my lady long lost version that’s the original that they auditioned with in front of uptown!!

You recognize K-Ci from his group with his bro, Jojo. They are also cousins with Fantasia Burrino. Mary J Blige was in an abusive relationship with KCi when she wrote her classic album, “My Life”. I recommend Mary’s song, “The love I never had” if you’re trying to listen to some well written music with amazing instrumentation. There’s no music video but that’s ok because this song bangs even more with your eyes closed. You can almost see it 😍

This song is 30 years old! I remember the day I first heard it when I was in high school. Back then K-Ci and Mary J. Blige were a couple for awhile. Never would I imagine this would be called oldies music. When I was a kid, oldies was like doo-wop and Motown.
