One thing I particularly appreciate about JB, besides his art. He never forgets to point out his influences and thus pays respect to the numerous other legends. That makes him humanly approachable and testifies to greatness of character.

I'm not Joe-level but I used to call it "talking to God". There were moments in solos when it was euphoric, when I played things I really didn't know how to play but my fingers followed a melody in my mind that just happened. I closed my eyes and it was just there. That feeling was better than sex because you got another chance to feel it again minutes later in the next song. I imagine that's why I played music for 45 years. There was always a chance to be the best you could be, every minute of a 4 hr gig however many nights a week for 30 yrs on the road. It's better than drugs or sex. I miss playing out and probably never will again but if I could I would in a NY minute. Thanks Joe for the inspiration and the humility...

People are drawn to artists for different reasons. Joe’s music introduced a whole new world to my life. I had endured a bad depression over many years, did not trust my doctor…and, focusing on that failure, had erroneously deduced that NOBODY was good at anything. I *NEEDED* to know that excellence existed, CRAVED excellence, searched for excellence. Then, one day, excellence APPEARED. It was Joe. On RU-vid. Had never heard of him, knew nothing about blues music, very little about rock, but I could see the immense skills he had, which propelled me to follow his music. I had spent several years studying guitar myself (hobby…classical and folk), and I believe that is why his skills spoke to me so clearly. Discovering Joe and his music was instrumental (no pun intended) in lifting me up and out of depression and despair. Now my last frontier is to stop being lazy and to pick up the guitar once again…before old age kicks in, as I’m 75. LOL

Another great interview Joe C. - seems like Joe B. was relaxed enough to really open up with some interesting discussion. A pleasure to watch.

Joe, I didn't know who Hubert Sumlin was till I saw him play at the Kansas City Blues Festival about 98 or so. I went back and did my research.

Joe is exactly right......there are nights when everything flows perfect and you know it...and your able to slow it down enough to play exactly what flows.....and then there are nights you can't do anything right....

I stumbled across Joe a few years ago seeing the Royal Albert Hall concert on PBR here in Dallas. I've been a huge fan of his ever since. That being said, it seems like every blues guitarist ever, plus Jimi, was mentioned in this interview except Stevie Ray Vaughn. Yes, I'm a Texan and extremely biased, but SRV! SRV! SRV! Thanks and keep going Joe and I'll keep buying.

Great interview Joe, watched a lot of JB on Norm's rare guitar segments. Playing by ear is when you're passion driven, imo. You just learn because you love to play . . .

I have been really enjoying this series along with all the interviews . I am beginning to think that someone needs to step in and conduct a multi session interview of Joe Chambers. I would enjoy hearing his stories from his life. Thanks for inside look at all of this great musicians.

Dave... thanks for watching.... much appreciated. Thanks too for the kind comment about my life but I promise you it will not compare to the interviews I’m lucky enough to share with everyone who watches our channel like with Joe B., Lukather, Vince, Pankow, Emmylou, Burton, Duane Eddy etc. but again thank you very much.... Joe C.

Bonamassa is an interesting player because that tradition of Electric Blues that still kind of comes from the British approach but he has that nerd thing in a cool way kind of like Tony Hawk in skateboarding compared to Tony Alva who really had the swagger. It fits for the type of players like Beck, Blackmore, Hendrix, Clapton, Allman who had kind of a mystery swagger. His work is so varied, my favorite stuff is the Black Country stuff with Bonham, Glenn Hughes. The other thimg is going through great gear, I can be just like that. I study guitars and gear so much, even to this day. He paid his dues and he really does a great show.

Haha comparing JB to Tony Hawk vs Tony Alva speaks volumes to his perceived public persona.

I’m glad you said that Joe! You like riding a bike but you’re not Lance Armstrong. I’ve been playing guitar for 50 some odd years and listening to Joe B rip out a solo I think why even play the damn thing? But guitar has given me a lifetime of joy and I’ll be playing till the day I die. So I’ll keep trying and trying and someday....just someday I’ll get reasonably good. A great interview Joe!
