Nice interview. We get to see the fun side of Joe Flynn that we know. But then we discover the sharp businessman helping his fellow actors. That side I did not know. Thanks for the treat.
Joe was one in a MILLION! I loved his roles. His last work for Disney was the voice of Snoops in the 1977 animated film The Rescuers along with the other greats. Bob Newhart, Eva Gabor & Geraldine Paige! I'm glad he got that much needed pay for the performers. We lost him to soon.
McHale's Navy was magnificently cast. Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway are obvious but McHale's crew, the nurses, other regulars/semi-regulars plus the guest stars were all excellent. HOWEVER, the show wouldn't have lasted 2 years without Joe Flynn as Captain Binghamton. He was GREAT in that part and really drove the show. I also get the feeling from watching his parts in some of the episodes that he had a great sense of humor, from how he played foil to everyone as well as some of the situations he found him self in. There's also at least one scene where he dances where it seems he really enjoyed it.
What a legend. He should have received an honorary Oscar for his performances unlike the untalented vegetables who appear these days in movies and television.
Joe's participation as VP of the Screen Actor's guild and his work toward royalties for actors in reruns is what some believe got him killed in what still to this day a mysterious drowning ruled accidental at his home.
CAPS ON---YES I BELIEVE THIS IS TRUE....can you imagine if hollywood had to pay out in millions in residuals to actors ,performer and production and crew,,,,,joe stuck his neck out..and paid the price of demise,,where are his children to make a statement,,,they would know all about this..i never believed the drowning in the pool with a leg cast and heart attack....the hollywood mafia had connections to dubious figures who do this..thanks honest one
Agreed. He looked like he was very fun to work with. Had to play a serious yet comical role on McHale's Navy. Sad he suffered a heart attack fell in his pool and became trapped under water because of his cast on his leg. I am sure he is up in heaven with his cast mates Ernest Borgnine, Tim Conway, Bob Hastings, and others saying I could just scream or what what what
I heard Disney was actually quite an asshole, but people rarely spoke openly about it. The same can be said about Bill Wilson, the founder of AA. But the propaganda sanctifies them, none the less.
